Book Assessment of the Proposal to Increase the Duration of Quarry Permits Under the Territorial Quarrying Regulations TQR in the Northwest Territories

Download or read book Assessment of the Proposal to Increase the Duration of Quarry Permits Under the Territorial Quarrying Regulations TQR in the Northwest Territories written by EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Granular resources in the Northwest Territories (NWT) are in high demand for industrial projects, community developments, and public infrastructure maintenance (e.g., highways). These projects require large quantities of a resource that is scarce in many parts of the North. In addition to resource scarcity, many regions of the NWT are isolated and lack the infrastructure to transport granular resources. Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) has lead responsibility for Crown lands and resources in the North. Granular resources on Crown land in the NWT are regulated through the Territorial Lands Act (TLA) - Territorial Quarrying Regulations (TQR). In 2005, EBA prepared a preliminary report on the TQR for INAC entitled Review of Territorial Quarrying Regulations in the Northwest Territories. The report described the rights to quarry, operational permitting, restoration and reclamation, and the overlap between quarry permits and land use permits. As follow-up to this preliminary report, INAC has requested a summary report focused strictly on the term, or duration, of quarry permits. This review and assessment has been prepared for the INAC Departmental Representative, Mr. Bob Gowan, to fulfill this requirement, in accordance with INAC Contract No. A7133-08-0035. ... The objective of this review and assessment is to determine the suitability and feasibility of extending the permit duration beyond the current maximum of one year-- ASTIS (online) database.

Download or read book Quarrying Permit Application for the Mackenzie Gas Project on Crown Lands Within the Sahtu Settlement Area and Dehcho Region written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is an application for quarrying permits under Section 12 of the Territorial Quarrying Regulations. It is being submitted to Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), pursuant to Section 8 of the Territorial Lands Act, by Imperial Oil Resources Ventures Limited (Imperial). The activities in this application pertain to the borrow sites that will be required in the Sahtu Settlement Area (SSA) and Dehcho Region (DCR) on Crown land in the Northwest Territories for the Mackenzie Gas Project (MGP). The maps listed in Appendix C show the proposed Crown borrow sites in the SSA and DCR. The application is intended to permit removal of material from each borrow site for the period of time indicated for each site (see Table 1-5 and Table 1-6). This application is part of a suite of applications that are being submitted by Imperial, which include: applications to the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board (MVLWB) for land use activities on Crown land in the SSA and DCR; an application to Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) of the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) to permit borrow site activities on Commissioner's land in the SSA; an application to the Town of Norman Wells to permit borrow site activities on land under the administration of the town; applications to the K'ahsho Got'ine Lands Corporation Ltd. and the Tulita District Land Corporation Ltd. to permit borrow site activities in the SSA on private land in addition to the applications, an environmental impact statement (EIS) has been filed with the Joint Review Panel (JRP) for the project. The EIS addresses the biophysical and human environment aspects of the entire project, including the activities described in this application. ... The borrow site development activities on SSA Crown land will take place on lands that have been designated in the Sahtu Preliminary Draft Land Use Plan (SPDLUP) for general use or special management. The land use designation is identified for all of the sites in this application (see Appendix B). Some of the proposed borrow site development activities on DCR land are subject to a time-limited withdrawal from new subsurface, or surface and subsurface, interests under one of two federal Privy Council orders (withdrawal orders). These orders were issued under section 23 of the Territorial Lands Act subsequent to the Interim Measures Agreement (IMA) between the Dehcho First Nations (DCFN) and the federal and territorial governments, dated May 2001. One of the Dehcho withdrawal orders is for Edéhzhie or Home Plateau (P.C. 2002-1805). The other is intended to facilitate the settlement of the DCFN land claim (P.C.2003-1230). Both include provision for a corridor for the gas pipeline and associated infrastructure and both have an initial term of about five years. The status of the land that is associated with the proposed borrow site development activities relative to the withdrawal orders is identified in this application (see Appendix B and the foldout maps in Appendix C). In addition, land use zones that were proposed in the November 2005 version of the draft Dehcho land use plan are shown for the borrow site development activities in this application (see Appendix B). This draft is entitled Respect for the Land: The Dehcho Land Use Plan, Revised Draft Plan - November 2005"--Introd.

Book Coastal Management in Australia

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The coast is one of our most valuable assets but how is it being treated and what is being done to look after it? COASTAL MANAGEMENT IN AUSTRALIA is the first book to provide a comprehensive overview of this important subject. Interesting case studies are used to illustrate human impact on coastal processes as well as demonstrating the global significance of the coast and the international imperative to manage it properly. COASTAL MANAGEMENT IN AUSTRALIA introduces the background to the various coastal management systems operating in Australia and illustrates these with 'real world' examples from the different states and territories. Since this book was first published yet another parliamentary inquiry has been added to some 30 years of national inquiries into coastal management, with further calls for national co-ordination. In addition, the Australian government has focused attention on the potential risks of climate change for the Australian coast. Both authors have national and international coastal expertise; significant academic teaching experience in coastal processes and coastal management; coastal planning and policy skills; and have extensive government expertise in coastal management.

Book Missouri Landscapes

Download or read book Missouri Landscapes written by Jon L. Hawker and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In this magnificent book, Oliver Schuchard provides more than sixty-five exquisite black-and-white photographs spanning his thirty-eight years of photography. In addition, he explains the aesthetic rationale and techniques he used in order to produce these photographs, emphasizing the profound differences between, yet necessary interdependence of, craft and content. Although Schuchard believes that craft is important, he maintains that the idea behind the photograph and the emotional content of the image are equally vital and are, in fact, functions of one another. The author also shares components of his life experience that he believes helped shape his development as an artist and a teacher. He chose the splendid photographs included in this book from among nearly 5,000 negatives that had been exposed all over the world, from Missouri to Maine, California, Alaska, Colorado, France, Newfoundland, and Hawaii, among many other locations. Approximately 250 negatives survived the initial review, and each of those was printed before a final decision was made on which photographs were to be featured in the book. The final choices are representative of Schuchard's work and serve to substantiate his belief that craft, concept, and self must be fully understood and carefully melded for a good photograph to occur. This amazing work by award-winning photographer Oliver Schuchard will be treasured by professional and amateur photographers alike, as well as by anyone who simply enjoys superb photography."--Publishers website.
