Download or read book Assessment of Existing Facilities for Use in Military Operations written by Department of Department of Defense and published by . This book was released on 2014-06 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UFC 1-201-02 June 2014 This UFC provides assessment guidelines for evaluating existing facilities for the potential use in military operations. Options are also included for mitigation of common building deficiencies. This UFC was developed to accomplish the following:* Provide contingency personnel with procedures to assess an existing facility to determine if the building achieves the minimum Life Safety and Habitability requirements to allow for occupancy in support of military operations.* Provides options for mitigating the risks inherent with common building deficiencies. Includes a list of applicable NIST cybersecurity publications for consideration. Why buy a book you can download for free? First you gotta find it and make sure it's the latest version (not always easy). Then you gotta print it using a network printer you share with 100 other people - and its outta paper - and the toner is low (take out the toner cartridge, shake it, then put it back). If it's just 10 pages, no problem, but if it's a 250-page book, you will need to punch 3 holes in all those pages and put it in a 3-ring binder. Takes at least an hour. An engineer that's paid $75 an hour has to do this himself (who has assistant's anymore?). If you are paid more than $10 an hour and use an ink jet printer, buying this book will save you money. It's much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com This book is published by 4th Watch Books and includes copyright material. Book Military Operations

Download or read book Military Operations written by William M. Solis and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The DoD relies extensively on contractors to support deployed forces for services that range from food and housing services to intelligence analysis. Since 1997, there have been reports on DoD¿s shortcomings in managing and overseeing its use of contractor support. Part of the difficulty attributed to these shortcomings is that no one person or entity made the decision to send 129,000 contractors to Iraq. Rather, numerous DoD activities were involved, thus adding to the complexity of the problems. This testimony focuses on the problems that DoD has faced, & future challenges, in managing & overseeing its contractor support to deployed forces. Charts & tables.

Book Report of the Defense Science Board Task Force on Military Operations in Built Up Areas MOBA

Download or read book Report of the Defense Science Board Task Force on Military Operations in Built Up Areas MOBA written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1994 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1994 Defense Science Board (DSB) Summer Study on Military Operations in Built-up Areas (MOBA) was asked to assess DoD's current capabilities to conduct military operations (including peacemaking and peacekeeping) in urban terrain. The Board focused on operations other than war (OOTW) in an urban environment OOTW can include periods of intense, localized combat. Many of the requirements and proposed solutions for OOTW are relevant to war in cities. The solutions are also relevant in low intensity conflict and in operations that provide humanitarian aid, where minimization of casualties is especially important. The guidance in the Terms of Reference (TOR, see Appendix A) requested that the Board examine: * The potential for U.S. involvement in MOBA * The characteristics of urban operations * Shortcomings in current capability and operational needs (especially regarding survivability, sensors, platforms, navigation, and communication) * Innovative solutions leading to a recommended focus for future efforts. Addressed, were operations that might involve combat, not solely deterrence, psychological operations (PSYOPS), or other noncombat forms of conflict resolution. The study examined: improvements to sensors; weapons (lethal and nonlethal); command, control, communications, and intelligence (C3I) systems; and doctrine. It also focused on solutions to issues that could be accomplished in a relatively short time, and that do not require beginning major new programs.

Book Military bases analysis of DOD s 2005 selection process and recommendations for base closures and realignments report to the congressional committees

Download or read book Military bases analysis of DOD s 2005 selection process and recommendations for base closures and realignments report to the congressional committees written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On May 13, 2005, the Secretary of Defense submitted proposed base realignment and closure (BRAC) actions to an independent commission for its review. The Commission must submit its recommendations to the President by September 8, 2005, for his acceptance or rejection in their entirety. Congress has final action to accept or reject these recommendations in their entirety later this year. The law required that GAO issue a report on the Department of Defense's (DoD) recommendations and selection process by July 1, 2005. GAO's objectives for this report were as follows: (1) determine the extent to which DoD's proposals achieved its stated BRAC goals, (2) analyze whether the process for developing recommendations was logical, and (3) identify issues with the recommendations that may warrant further attention. Time constraints limited GAO's ability to examine implementation details of most of the individual recommended actions. DoD had varying success in achieving its 2005 BRAC goals of reducing excess infrastructure and producing savings, furthering transformation, and fostering jointness. While DoD proposed a record number of closures and realignments, exceeding all prior BRAC rounds combined, many proposals focused on reserve bases and relatively few on closing active bases. Projected savings are almost equally large, but most savings are derived from 10 percent of the recommendations. While GAO believes savings would be achieved, overall up-front investment costs of an estimated $24 billion are required, and there are clear limitations associated with DoD's projection of nearly $50 billion in savings over a 20-year period. Much of the projected net annual recurring savings (47 percent) is associated with eliminating jobs currently held by military personnel. However, rather than reducing end-strength levels, DoD indicates the positions are expected to be reassigned to other areas, which may enhance capabilities but also limit dollar savings available for other use7.
