Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers the proceedings of the 8th International Symposium on Coal Combustion. The contributions reflect the latest research on coal quality and combustion, techniques for pulverized coal combustion and fluidized bed combustion, special issues regarding CO2 capture (CCS), industrial applications, etc. – aspects that are of great importance in promoting academic communications between related areas and the technical development of coal-related fields. The International Symposium on Coal Combustion (ISCC), sponsored and organized by Tsinghua University since 1987, has established itself as an important platform allowing scientists and engineers to exchange information and ideas on the science and technology of coal combustion and related issues, and to forge new partnerships in the growing Chinese market. Researchers in the fields of clean coal combustion, carbon dioxide capture and storage, coal chemical engineering, energy engineering, etc. will greatly benefit from this book. Guangxi Yue, professor of the Department of Thermal Engineering in Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE). Shuiqing Li, professor of the Department of Thermal Engineering in Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.

Book Coal

    Book Details:
  • Author : National Research Council
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2007-12-21
  • ISBN : 030911022X
  • Pages : 183 pages

Download or read book Coal written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-12-21 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coal will continue to provide a major portion of energy requirements in the United States for at least the next several decades. It is imperative that accurate information describing the amount, location, and quality of the coal resources and reserves be available to fulfill energy needs. It is also important that the United States extract its coal resources efficiently, safely, and in an environmentally responsible manner. A renewed focus on federal support for coal-related research, coordinated across agencies and with the active participation of the states and industrial sector, is a critical element for each of these requirements. Coal focuses on the research and development needs and priorities in the areas of coal resource and reserve assessments, coal mining and processing, transportation of coal and coal products, and coal utilization.

Book Application of Modern Coal Technologies to Military Facilities Volume II Evaluation of the Applicability and Cost of Current and Emerging Coal Technologies for the Utilization of Coal as a Primary Energy Source

Download or read book Application of Modern Coal Technologies to Military Facilities Volume II Evaluation of the Applicability and Cost of Current and Emerging Coal Technologies for the Utilization of Coal as a Primary Energy Source written by V. Bruce May and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents an overview of various technologies which are potentially applicable to replacement of oil and natural gas by coal at Army installations. Direct combustion of coal and conversion of coal to synthetic liquid and gaseous fuels are the two broad technology categories which are considered. In both categories there are commercial processes and processes under development. Near-term and long-range possibilities have been identified as have processes, systems, and technologies which are unsuited to the end application. Results of the study indicate that direct combustion of coal, using either conventional equipment or the experimental fluidized-bed system, is probably the preferred approach to eliminate natural gas and oil. High-Btu gas derived from coal may have some applications but costs appear excessive. Production of liquid fuels from coal cannot complete economically with other alternatives due to the small scale of the facility required.

Book Technology Assessment of Clean Coal Technologies for China

Download or read book Technology Assessment of Clean Coal Technologies for China written by Weltbank and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysts expect China to continue improving the efficiency of energy production and use, thereby decoupling the traditional relationship between gross domestic product (GDP) and energy consumption. Environmentally acceptable economic growth is closely linked with further improvements in the overall efficiency of energy use. Both of these goals will require a continued increase in the use of coal to produce electricity, along with a more deliberate and rapid transition from direct coal combustion to the use of electricity and other cleaner coal-based fuel sources, especially for cooking, space heating, and industrial furnaces. The opportunity for environmental improvement in conjunction with economic growth lies in the wise adoption of clean coal technologies (CCT) for both the electric power and non-power sectors. This report presents CCT options for the power sector that can help China achieve these twin goals. The CCT options are: 1) air pollution controls for particulates, sulphur dioxide, and nitrous oxide; and 2) advanced electricity generation technologies--supercritical pulverized-coal boilers, atmospheric and pressurized fluidized-bed combustors, and integrated gasification combined cycle plants. Volume 1 of this report explains the project costing methodology and the electric power CCT options. Volume 2 summarizes the development and technology assessment of clean coal technologies for the non-power sector in China.
