Book Practical Aspects of Declarative Languages

Download or read book Practical Aspects of Declarative Languages written by Bharat Jayaraman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-05-19 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Symposium on Practical Aspects of Declarative Languages (PADL) is a forum for researchers and practitioners to present original work emphasizing novel applications and implementation techniques for all forms of declarative concepts, especially those emerging from functional, logic, and c- straint languages. Declarative languages have been studied since the inception of computer science, and continue to be a vibrant subject of investigation today due to their applicability in current application domains such as bioinformatics, network con?guration, the Semantic Web, telecommunications software, etc. The 6th PADL Symposium was held in Dallas, Texas on June 18–19, 2004, and was co-located with the Compulog-Americas Summer School on Compu- tional Logic. From the submitted papers, the program committee selected 15 for presentation at the symposium based upon three written reviews for each paper, which were provided by the members of the program committee and additional referees. Two invited talks were presented at the conference. The ?rst was given by Paul Hudak (Yale University) on “An Algebraic Theory of Polymorphic T- poral Media. ” The second invited talk was given by Andrew Fall (Dowlland Technologies and Simon Fraser University) on “Supporting Decisions in C- plex, Uncertain Domains with Declarative Languages. ” Following the precedent set by the previous PADL symposium, the program committee this year again selected one paper to receive the ‘Most Practical - per’award.

Book Aspects of Old English Poetic Syntax

Download or read book Aspects of Old English Poetic Syntax written by Mary Eva Blockley and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Distinguished by a remarkable combination of erudition and lucidity, Aspects of Old English Poetic Syntax provides new insight into the rules that govern syntactic relationships and indicates how these rules differ for prose and verse. Blockley considers the functions of four of the most common and most syntactically important words in Old English, as well as such features of clauses as verb-initial order, negative contraction, and unexpressed but understood subjects. Picking up where Bruce Mitchell's classic Old English Syntax left off, Blockley shows how such common words and structures mark the relationships between phrases and clauses.".

Book Tense and Aspects in Discourse

Download or read book Tense and Aspects in Discourse written by Co Vet and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRENDS IN LINGUISTICS is a series of books that open new perspectives in our understanding of language. The series publishes state-of-the-art work on core areas of linguistics across theoretical frameworks as well as studies that provide new insights by building bridges to neighbouring fields such as neuroscience and cognitive science. TRENDS IN LINGUISTICS considers itself a forum for cutting-edge research based on solid empirical data on language in its various manifestations, including sign languages. It regards linguistic variation in its synchronic and diachronic dimensions as well as in its social contexts as important sources of insight for a better understanding of the design of linguistic systems and the ecology and evolution of language. TRENDS IN LINGUISTICS publishes monographs and outstanding dissertations as well as edited volumes, which provide the opportunity to address controversial topics from different empirical and theoretical viewpoints. High quality standards are ensured through anonymous reviewing.

Book Aspects of the Theory of Morphology

Download or read book Aspects of the Theory of Morphology written by Igor Mel'cuk and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-08-22 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is dedicated to linguistic morphology and it contains a sketch of a complete morphological theory, centered around a discussion of fundamental concepts such as morph vs. morpheme, inflectional category, voice, grammatical case, agreement vs. government, suppletion, relationships between linguistic signs, etc.: the hottest issues in modern linguistics! The book introduces rigorous and clear concepts necessary to describe morphological phenomena of natural languages. Among other things, it offers logical calculi of possible grammemes in a given category. The presentation is developed in a typological perspective, so that linguistic data from a large variety of languages are described and analyzed (about 100 typologically very different languages). The main method is deductive: the concepts proposed in Aspects of the Theory of Morphology are based on a small set of indefinibilia and each concept is defined in terms of these indefinibilia and/or other concepts defined previously; as a result, logical calculi can be constructed (similar to Mendeleev's Periodical Table of Elements in chemistry). Then the concept is applied to the actual linguistic data to demonstrate its validity and advantages. Thus, Aspects of the Theory of Morphology combines metalinguistic endeavor (a system of concepts for morphology) with typological and descriptive orientation. It reaches out to all students of language, including the border fields and applications.

Book Mathematical Aspects of Superspace

Download or read book Mathematical Aspects of Superspace written by H.J. Seifert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past five years, through a continually increasing wave of activity in the physics community, supergravity has come to be regarded as one of the most promising ways of unifying gravity with other particle interaction as a finite gauge theory to explain the spectrum of elementary particles. Concurrently im portant mathematical works on the arena of supergravity has taken place, starting with Kostant's theory of graded manifolds and continuing with Batchelor's work linking this with the superspace formalism. There remains, however, a gap between the mathematical and physical approaches expressed by such unanswered questions as, does there exist a superspace having all the properties that physicists require of it? Does it make sense to perform path integral in such a space? It is hoped that these proceedings will begin a dialogue between mathematicians and physicists on such questions as the plan of renormalisation in supergravity. The contributors to the proceedings consist both of mathe maticians and relativists who bring their experience in differen tial geometry, classical gravitation and algebra and also quantum field theorists specialized in supersymmetry and supergravity. One of the most important problems associated with super symmetry is its relationship to the elementary particle spectrum.

This book was released on 1998 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of medieval monophonic music. The text focuses on its movement away from the concept of chants as products and towards the idea of chants as processes.
