Download or read book Impressions of Hume written by Davide Panagia and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2013-08-22 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Davide Panagia’s Impressions of Hume: Cinematic Thinking and the Politics of Discontinuity is volume fifteen of Modernity and Political Thought, the Rowman & Littlefield series in contemporary political theory. Through close attention to Hume’s theories of sensation, Davide Panagia conceptualizes the modern even more radically (though also more literally) than many of the previous authors in this series. While devoting attention to how a historical thinker such as Hume is read and misread, used and abused in the modern intellectual world, Panagia also focuses on developing a theory of Humean perception and by so doing emphasizes the contemporaneity of Hume’s thought. In what at first seems to be an anachronistic as well as wildly curious claim about a philosopher of the eighteenth century, Panagia holds that Hume was a cinematic thinker.

Book Aramaic and Figural Stamp Impressions on Bricks of the Sixth Century B C from Babylon

Download or read book Aramaic and Figural Stamp Impressions on Bricks of the Sixth Century B C from Babylon written by Benjamin Sass and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2010 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses the 335 Aramaic and figural impressions on bricks of the sixth century B.C., most of them uncovered during the German excavations in 1899-1917. This treasure trove, that remained practically unpublished for a hundred years, is well dated by cuneiform impressions, found on the same bricks, of Nebuchadnezzar II (605-562 B.C.) and his immediate successors. The Aramaic and figural brick impressions close a gap in our knowledge about Aramaic palaeography (the stamp legends are in the monumental script, hitherto poorly documented for the sixth century), contribute to our understanding of the onomasticon and the iconography of the period, and touch upon the history of the Aramaean presence in Babylon and upon the royal building activity there.

Book Conceptualizing our Interpersonal Impressions

Download or read book Conceptualizing our Interpersonal Impressions written by Gillian Steggles and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-27 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book clarifies a thorny and knotty problem that has interfered with clear thinking among psychoanalysts for over 70 years. It provides a rigorous examination of the views, theories and contributions of psychoanalysts since their initial appearance, to very mixed acclaim, among the experimental psychoanalysts who were struggling professionally in war-torn London in the early 1940s. Extensive details of the data and their analysis have been included so that the scientific basis of the work’s conclusion may be understood and appreciated. Psychoanalysis is replete with theories, but not so much evidence. This book, however, produces evidence for scrutiny and, as such, provides new evidence-based knowledge about psychoanalytic phenomena in everyday life as it is commonly understood, and which is not derived from “research on the couch”. The conclusions drawn in the book include the new knowledge that mental representations and internal objects do both occur in everyday life and can co-exist.

Book The Handbook of Impression Formation

Download or read book The Handbook of Impression Formation written by Emily Balcetis and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-08-12 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting diverse perspectives from eminent scholars and contemporary researchers, The Handbook of Impression Formation contextualizes current and future areas of research in the social psychology of impression formation within a rich historic framework. Affirming that impression formation is at the core of human experience, chapters explore how and why people form snap judgments about others and when those impressions update. They examine the processes through which people infer the reasons for the events they encounter, allowing people to plan for appropriate behavioral responses to social contexts. The research reviewed is informed by the foundational theory of unconscious automatic processes involved in making judgements of other people, pioneered by Professor Jim Uleman who contributes a chapter that suggests important new directions, and concludes the volume by reflecting on the state of the field more broadly. The book explores how certain attributes stimulate categorization, examining current issues around implicit bias, stereotypes, and social media. Chapters cover a range of approaches, featuring personal narratives, presentation of new data and discoveries, comprehensive literature reviews, and contemplations on where the field must go and what questions require focus for progress to be made, calling for even the most advanced scholars to contribute more to the collective investigation of impression formation. This fascinating work provides a solid foundation from which all researchers can build a new and unique program of research, and arms the reader with the intellectual tools they need to chart new theoretical territory and discover aspects of the human experience we have yet to even wonder about. It is essential reading for students and academics in social psychology, and the social sciences more broadly.
