Book Asian Strategic and Military Perspective

Download or read book Asian Strategic and Military Perspective written by Ravi Shekhar Narain Singh Singh and published by Lancer Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nation-states are compelled to function within the parameters of their respective geo-political and geo-strategic environment. The behavior of nations, and the interplay of their strengths and vulnerabilities, particularly, their foreign and military posturing, is predicated on geographic, political and economic factors. Besides, historical imperatives also coalesce in determining the way States shape their policies. Many Asian countries today are threatened by a war that is of a subtle and imperceptible nature. There is also a paradigm shift in the perception of national security, especially with the blurring of the notion of internal and external security. This is reflected in the growing military expenditures of several Asian countries. This volume attempts to examine the critical factors that influence the foreign and defense policies of Asian countries. It provides comprehensive information and analyses of the strengths, needs, aspirations and compulsions that shape their strategic and military outlook..

Book Japan s Nuclear Identity and Its Implications for Nuclear Abolition

Download or read book Japan s Nuclear Identity and Its Implications for Nuclear Abolition written by Daisuke Akimoto and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-26 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines Japan’s nuclear identity and its implications for abolition of nuclear weapons. By applying analytical eclecticism in combination with international relations theory, this book categorizes Japan’s nuclear identity as a ‘nuclear-bombed state’ (classical liberalism), ‘nuclear disarmament state’ (neoliberalism), ‘nuclear-threatened state’ (classical realism), and a ‘nuclear umbrella state’ (neorealism). This research investigates whether the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were ‘genocide’ or not, to what degree Japan has contributed to nuclear disarmament, how Japan has been threatened by ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons of North Korea, and how Japan’s security policy has been embedded with the nuclear strategy of the United States. It also sheds light on theoretical factors that Japan does not support the Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). Finally, this book considers the future of Japan’s nuclear identity and attempts to explore alternatives for Japan’s nuclear disarmament diplomacy toward a world without nuclear weapons.

Book India s Energy Diplomacy in Eurasia

Download or read book India s Energy Diplomacy in Eurasia written by Aslam Khan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-26 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an accurate evaluation of re-integration of Eurasia in the context of India’s energy security and diplomacy which requires a normative shift as in the current Eurasian geopolitical and geo-economic matrix, the growing role of transit countries and their proximity with the Energy Complex Zone negates the fact that great powers or strong states control the Eurasian Heartland. Authors believe that wrecking this norm is fundamental here to deconstruct the undercurrents of energy geopolitics prevailing in Eurasia over the emerging phenomenon, as it discourages the re-integration of the Eurasian region. It explores how the geopolitical struggle between major powers for energy resources has been engendering mutual interdependencies between energy producers and transit countries. It makes an attempt to provide a transcontinental study of Eurasian energy and connectivity as a thrust area for the present work positioning Eurasia in Indian foreign policy, determining the contours of energy diplomacy in connection with the Eurasian energy policy. It defines Eurasia broadly as the region that encompasses Central Asia and the Caucasus including Russia and transit countries. It addresses the geopolitical and geo-economic aspects of Eurasian re-integration in the context of India’s energy security. The objective of this book is to combine theoretical, contemporary, and policy-oriented issues that deserve scholarly attention and would both complement and supplement the academic contributions.

Book Chinese Strategy and Military Modernization in 2015

Download or read book Chinese Strategy and Military Modernization in 2015 written by Anthony H. Cordesman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-01-12 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China’s emergence as a global economic superpower, and as a major regional military power in Asia and the Pacific, has had a major impact on its relations with the United States and its neighbors. China was the driving factor in the new strategy the United States announced in 2012 that called for a “rebalance” of U.S. forces to the Asia-Pacific region. At the same time, China’s actions on its borders, in the East China Sea, and in the South China Sea have shown that it is steadily expanding its geopolitical role in the Pacific and having a steadily increasing impact on the strategy and military developments in other Asian powers.

Book The Abe Doctrine

Download or read book The Abe Doctrine written by Daisuke Akimoto and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on Prime Minister Abe’s policy toward international peace and security proposed in 2013 under the basic principle of ‘proactive contribution to peace’. To this end, this book investigates Prime Minister Abe’s policy-making process of the Peace and Security Legislation, which transformed Japan’s security policy and enabled Japan to exercise the right of ‘collective self-defense’, which used to be ‘unconstitutional’. This book evaluates the implications of the Peace and Security Legislation on three fronts, domestic, bilateral, and international, by analyzing Japan’s Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) program, the Japan-US alliance system, and Japan’s policy on international peacekeeping operations in South Sudan. This book is one of the first contributions to the research on Japan’s foreign and security policy under the Shinzo Abe administration and will be of interest to scholars, policymakers, and students of Japan, Japanese politics and international relations of the Asia-Pacific region.

Book Chinese Grand Strategy in the 21st Century

Download or read book Chinese Grand Strategy in the 21st Century written by Thomas M. Kane and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-20 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the state of China’s grand strategy in the 21st century, including political, military and economic factors. Over the past two decades, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has attained the second highest gross domestic product in the world, taken a leadership role in East Asian regional organisations and substantially improved its military capabilities. Each of these developments – and many others like them – have attracted attention from scholars, journalists and policymakers. Less frequently acknowledged – but perhaps of greater significance – is the impressive congruence of Beijing’s accomplishments. This book highlights how the PRC’s successes support one another and pave the way for future accomplishments, and how these successes seem to be achieved in an unusually coherent and purposeful way. As Beijing’s relations with the rest of the world continue to evolve, with events ranging from the ongoing global economic crisis to the turbulence in China’s own stock market which may bring the PRC’s government under pressure to re-order its priorities, this book assesses China’s grand strategy and long-term approach to national policy. It identifies the political, military and economic instruments it is likely to use, the key challenges which it will face, and explores the implications for the global community. This book will be of great interest to students of Chinese politics, foreign policy, strategic studies, international security and IR in general.

Download or read book African Navies written by Timothy Stapleton and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume focuses on aspects of the understudied theme of African sea-power, including African navies and the engagement of non-African navies with the continent. Africa possesses 48,000 kilometers of coastline, comprising 38 out of 54 of the continent’s states and several strategic choke points for international shipping, such as the Suez Canal, the Gulf of Aden and the Cape of Good Hope. Nevertheless, post-colonial Africa’s small navies and their relations with the navies of external powers have not received much scholarly attention. Focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa, this collection attempts to address this neglect and stimulate further research by offering original chapters related to historical and contemporary themes around Africa’s navies. The historical chapters cover the origin of the Tanzanian, Ethiopian, Nigerian and Ghana navies during the era of decolonization and the Cold War, the asymmetrical naval campaign fought during the Nigerian Civil War (1967-70), and the activities of the Soviet Navy in supporting African states and movements fighting lingering colonialism and white supremacy during the 1970s and 1980s. Focusing on the contemporary situation, other chapters discuss the engagement of the Indian Navy with Africa, the potential role of the Angolan and Mozambican navies in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the transformation and development of the post-apartheid South African Navy, and the challenges and capabilities of African navies in the early twenty-first century. The book concludes by discussing the question of whether African coastal countries need navies. This book will be of much interest to students of naval power, strategic studies, African politics and International Relations.
