Book PROBLEM OF VIETNAM BOAT PEOPLE IN HONG KONG

Download or read book PROBLEM OF VIETNAM BOAT PEOPLE IN HONG KONG written by Gutti Raja Mohan Rao and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the legacies of the unification of Vietnam under Communist leadership in 1976 was the problem of Vietnamese boat people. Tens of thousands of Vietnamese refugees fled the country in order to escape persecution and economic hardships. Since majority of them used small boats to flee the country to the neighbouring Southeast Asian Countries and Hong Kong, the Vietnamese refugees came to be called as 'boat people'. This dissertation is an attempt to analyse the problem of Vietnam boat people from 1975 to 1991 - that is from the birth of the boat people problem in the wake of American withdrawal from Vietnam in April 1975, to the conclusion of Paris Peace Accords on Cambodia in October 1991, which, among other things, facilitated Vietnam's "reintegration into the World Community" and the consequent growth of Vietnamese economy which in turn, it was fervently hoped, would not only induce the Vietnamese refugees to return to their native country but also discourage the Vietnamese from leaving the country.

Book Asian Development Experience

Download or read book Asian Development Experience written by Hirohisa Kohama and published by Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. This book was released on 2003 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Volume 1 of a 3-volume study, Asian Development Experience, which is expected to contribute to research as well as policy-making in Asia and elsewhere. An earlier version of this study was supported by the Japan-ASEAN Solidarity Fund. External Factors for Asian Development investigates the effects of Japan's foreign aid for development and trade and FDI on ASEAN economies from various perspectives, including historical implications of Japan's involvement, agricultural exports, the development pattern of the Southeast Asian countries, the formation of international production/distribution networks, poverty reduction, upgrading technology, and industrial agglomeration. The contributors analyze trade, FDI and foreign aid from the standpoint of policy coherence at the interface between development co-operation and many other policy areas: trade, agriculture, food safety, fisheries, intellectual property, the environment, international finance, tax policy, migration, and peace and security.

Book Asian Film Journeys

  • Author : Rashmi Doraiswamy
  • Publisher : SCB Distributors
  • Release : 2011-02-02
  • ISBN : 8183282083
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book Asian Film Journeys written by Rashmi Doraiswamy and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2011-02-02 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For lovers of Asian cinema and for those simply curious to know its trends and moods, experiments and innovations since it strode the world stage with assurance in the mid- 80s, Asian Film Journeys is a feast. It presents a selection of articles that appeared in the pages of Cinemaya, The Asian Film Quarterly between 1988 and 2004, articles that closely tracked the bold new film narrative of both the well-known and the lesser-known cinemas as it unfolded. The Quarterly remained, for fifteen years, the one and only serious yet lively platform for writing on the cinemas of Asian countries. Given that the writers were mostly Asian-apart from some keen and long-standing followers of Asian cinema from the West-the magazine offered, for the first time, a truly authentic point of view, a look at films from within their cultures. The book gives a bird’s eye view of the style and substance, art and craft of these cinemas and captures some of the Asian air it let in!
