Book An Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Syntax

Download or read book An Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Syntax written by Bruce K. Waltke and published by Eisenbrauns. This book was released on 1990 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meeting the need for a textbook for classroom use after first year Hebrew grammar, Waltke and O'Connor integrate the results of modern linguistic study of Hebrew and years of experience teaching the subject in this book. In addition to functioning as a teaching grammar, this work will also be widely used for reference and self-guided instruction in Hebrew beyond the first formal year. Extensive discussion and explanation of grammatical points help to sort out points blurred in introductory books. More than 3,500 Biblical Hebrew examples illustrate the points of grammar under discussion. Four indexes (Scripture, Authorities cited, Hebrew words, and Topics) provide ready access to the vast array of information found in the 40 chapters. Destined to become a classic work, this long-awaited book fills a major gap among modern publications on Biblical Hebrew.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With many of these teachings being made available in print for the first time at the behest of Dr. Asher's many students worldwide, "The Asher Codex" is the first compilation of critical individual Torah teachings culminating from thirty plus years of study and teaching by Dr. Asher. This first edition published this year - 2013, R' Shmuel Asher "The Asher Codex" will prove to be a leading reference work on the major ancient to contemporary religious cult systems, a resource text for those people truly searching for the original paths, and willing to put in the required study to know it. Unlike Dr. Asher's previous books, "The Asher Codex" is a Masters level resource guide to aid those attempting to learn and teach others. With an emphasis on the currently active, proselytizing cults, and the predecessor ancient cults that led us to this point, the Asher Codex will continue to be a crucial tool in counter-cult ministry and evangelism, a driving force emphasizing the Creators Original truths for all man. While remaining true to his first three books tone and information, this first time compilation of Dr. Asher's controversial teachings, edited by Neshamah Eliot, includes substantial new information beyond that of his previously public teachings. Scholarly yet readable, an engaging unique voice in defense of the Creators original, but suppressed instruction to man. Albeit all of Dr. Asher's books have touched on the false Judah's influence over the original path, "The Asher Codex" evaluates Judah's ancient cultic history, beliefs, and influence over the texts and rituals that have come forward into our modern Western religions, in much greater detail. This is an invaluable reference work for both scholars and laypeople, contrasting individual teachings with a more original cultural Hebraic understanding, and linguistically corrected biblical theology. Most readers who are leaving their modern religious orders behind in search of the original path will find apologetics help in dealing with their cults, and a new ability to refute their old arguments with stiff factual, detailed information. Some of the chapters and topics include: The Circular Logic of Man What's in a Name Who is Judah? The Sacrifices of Judah Origins of the Talmud Ancient Laws & Languages The Two Laws Historical Proof from Egypt to Moshe Kill Your Speed, Not Your Camel Original Torah for all Man Key Words of Genesis Evening to Pagan Evening 3 Feasts or 4 Renewals? Book Studies in Classical Hebrew

Download or read book Studies in Classical Hebrew written by Moshe Bar-Asher and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-08-22 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor Moshe Bar-Asher, Professor Emeritus at the Hebrew University and long-time president of the Academy of the Hebrew Language, has published more than 200 articles and sixteen books and edited aboout 90 books and collections. The vast majority of his work has been accessible, however, only to specialists who read modern Hebrew or French. Bar-Asher’s groundbreaking articles on the dialects of rabbinic literature are classics. In more recent years he has brought the same breadth and depth of grammatical knowledge, and philological acumen, to the study of older classical Hebrew texts, including literary and epigraphic texts. This volume presents studies of individual words and verses within the Bible, as well as broader thematic discussions of biblical language and its long reception-history, down through medieval scribes and modern lexicographers. Also represented are Bar-Asher’s penetrating studies of Qumran texts and languages, which illuminate both the linguistic traditions reflected in these texts and the scribal culture from which they emerged. The third section contains studies of Mishnaic Hebrew. There are both sweeping surveys of the field and its accomplishments and challenges, and studies of specific phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical features.

Book The Hebrew Bible as Literature

Download or read book The Hebrew Bible as Literature written by Tod Linafelt and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hebrew Bible, or Christian Old Testament, contains some of the finest literature that we have. This biblical literature has a place not only in the synagogue or the church but also among the classics of world literature. The stories of Jacob and David, for instance, present the earliest surviving examples of literary characters whose development the reader follows over the length of a lifetime. Elsewhere, as in the books of Esther or Ruth, readers find a snapshot of a particular, fraught moment that will define the character. The Hebrew Bible also provides quite a few high points of lyric poetry, from the praise and lament of the Psalms to the double entendres in the love of poetry of the Song of Songs. In short, the Bible can be celebrated not only as religious literature but, quite simply, as literature. This book offers a thorough and lively introduction to the Bible's two primary literary modes, narrative and poetry, foregrounding the nuances of plot, character, metaphor, structure and design, and intertextual allusions. Tod Linafelt thus gives readers the tools to fully experience and appreciate the Old Testament's literary achievement. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.

This book was released on 2023-10-23 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual provides a detailed presentation of the various Romance languages as they appear in texts written by Jews, mostly using the Hebrew alphabet. It gives a comprehensive overview of the Jews and the Romance languages in the Middle Ages (part I), as well as after the expulsions (part II). These sections are dedicated to Judaeo-Romance texts and linguistic traditions mainly from Italy, northern and southern France (French and Occitan), and the Iberian Peninsula (Catalan, Spanish, Portuguese). The Judaeo-Spanish varieties of the 20th and 21st centuries are discussed in a separate section (part III), due to the fact that Judaeo-Spanish can be considered an independent language. This section includes detailed descriptions of its phonetics/phonology, morphology, lexicon, and syntax.

Book Hebrew of the Late Second Temple Period

Download or read book Hebrew of the Late Second Temple Period written by Eibert J.C. Tigchelaar and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-09-07 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hebrew of the Late Second Temple Period is directly attested in the Scrolls from Qumran and other manuscripts discovered in the Judaean Desert. Indirectly, it is also found in some manuscripts copied in later times, which still preserve linguistic elements of the Hebrew from the period in which the texts were authored. Often referred to as the Hebrew of the Dead Sea Scrolls or Qumran Hebrew, and positioned chronologically between Biblical Hebrew and Mishnaic Hebrew, its nature remains disputed. Some essays in this volume deal with linguistic and philological problems of this Late Second Temple Period Hebrew. Other papers discuss the nature and linguistic profile of the Hebrew of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Book A Handbook of Biblical Hebrew

Download or read book A Handbook of Biblical Hebrew written by W. Randall Garr and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2016-09-12 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1: Periods, Corpora, and Reading Traditions; Volume 2: Selected Texts Biblical Hebrew is studied worldwide by university students, seminarians, and the educated public. It is also studied, almost universally, through a single prism—that of the Tiberian Masoretic tradition, which is the best attested and most widely available tradition of Biblical Hebrew. Thanks in large part to its endorsement by Maimonides, it also became the most prestigious vocalization tradition in the Middle Ages. For most, Biblical Hebrew is synonymous with Tiberian Biblical Hebrew. There are, however, other vocalization traditions. The Babylonian tradition was widespread among Jews around the close of the first millennium CE; the tenth-century Karaite scholar al-Qirqisani reports that the Babylonian pronunciation was in use in Babylonia, Iran, the Arabian peninsula, and Yemen. And despite the fact that Yemenite Jews continued using Babylonian manuscripts without interruption from generation to generation, European scholars learned of them only toward the middle of the nineteenth century. Decades later, manuscripts pointed with the Palestinian vocalization system were rediscovered in the Cairo Genizah. Thereafter came the discovery of manuscripts written according to the Tiberian-Palestinian system and, perhaps most importantly, the texts found in caves alongside the Dead Sea. What is still lacking, however, is a comprehensive and systematic overview of the different periods, sources, and traditions of Biblical Hebrew. This handbook provides students and the public with easily accessible, reliable, and current information in English concerning the multi-faceted nature of Biblical Hebrew. Noted scholars in each of the various fields contributed their expertise. The result is the present two-volume work. The first contains an in-depth introduction to each tradition; and the second presents sample accompanying texts that exemplify the descriptions of the parallel introductory chapters.
