Book It s Life as I See it

Download or read book It s Life as I See it written by Dan Nadel and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published by Chicago's Black press, long neglected by mainstream publishing, and now included in a Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago exhibition, these comics showcase some of the finest Black cartoonists. Between the 1940s and 1980s, Chicago’s Black press—from The Chicago Defender to the Negro Digest to self-published pamphlets—was home to some of the best cartoonists in America. Kept out of the pages of white-owned newspapers, Black cartoonists found space to address the joys, the horrors, and the everyday realities of Black life in America. From Jay Jackson’s anti-racist time travel adventure serial Bungleton Green, to Morrie Turner’s radical mixed-race strip Dinky Fellas, to the Afrofuturist comics of Yaoundé Olu and Turtel Onli, to National Book Award–winning novelist Charles Johnson’s blistering and deeply funny gag cartoons, this is work that has for far too long been excluded and overlooked. Also featuring the work of Tom Floyd, Seitu Hayden, Jackie Ormes, and Grass Green, this anthology accompanies the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago’s exhibition Chicago Comics: 1960 to Now, and is an essential addition to the history of American comics. The book's cover is designed by Kerry James Marshall. Published in conjunction with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, on the occasion of Chicago Comics: 1960s to Now, June 19–October 3, 2021. Curated by Dan Nadel.

  • Author : Cody Coffey
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2010-03
  • ISBN : 1449060811
  • Pages : 278 pages

Download or read book As I See It written by Cody Coffey and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People will be interested in this book because it offers insight and a different look at the cycle of life and death and why they are never ending. The who, what, where and why are just fill-ins for the curious, but logical questions and answers that we ponder as humans. I hope to take it further by examining the meaning behind the meaning. The possibilities and the consequences of ignoring the very basis of not just life, but the survival of humanity that we are not here by some kind of accident in the cosmos. What happens and transpires when people no longer feel a purpose to life and this feeling causes an insurrection and destruction of one's soul, where not only do they lash out at each other, they eventually despise themselves. This issue is what happens in the absence of God in one's life and how the soul starves while the flesh feasts in misery and selfishness. The absence of purpose which is a greater good (God) causes a systematic breakdown where the tentacles of misery and chaos run wild as one adopts the mentality of every man, women and child. The more selfish people become the less they care about those further and further away from their "personal space" to the point where they do not care about their own country, their own state, community right up to their own backyard. As evil advances the faithless retreat, one grows more and more selfish in the absence of God. Good and evil, right and wrong become meshed together and a vail of gray causes one unable to discern between the two.

Book Not If I See You First

Download or read book Not If I See You First written by Eric Lindstrom and published by Poppy. This book was released on 2015-12-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of Gayle Forman and John Green comes this extraordinary YA debut about a blind teen girl navigating life and love in high school. Parker Grant doesn't need 20/20 vision to see right through you. That's why she created the Rules: Don't treat her any differently just because she's blind, and never take advantage. There will be no second chances. Just ask Scott Kilpatrick, the boy who broke her heart. When Scott suddenly reappears in her life after being gone for years, Parker knows there's only one way to react—shun him so hard it hurts. She has enough on her mind already, like trying out for the track team (that's right, her eyes don't work but her legs still do), doling out tough-love advice to her painfully naive classmates, and giving herself gold stars for every day she hasn't cried since her dad's death three months ago. But avoiding her past quickly proves impossible, and the more Parker learns about what really happened—both with Scott, and her dad—the more she starts to question if things are always as they seem. Maybe, just maybe, some Rules are meant to be broken. Debut author Eric Lindstrom's Not If I See You First combines a fiercely engaging voice with true heart.

Book As I See It A Life in Detours

Download or read book As I See It A Life in Detours written by Thomas A. Kligerman and published by Triglyph Books. This book was released on 2021-09-23 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: - Presents stories behind the images including exclusive artwork and previously unseen images- Endorsed by celebrated interior designer, Kelly Wearstler and Amy Astley, the editor of Architectural Digest- QR codes link images to the sites of buildings and evolving video contentThis book is a celebration of the power of the mobile phone camera combined with Tom Kligerman's unique eye. Tom is a New York architect who adores travel and the different cultures of the world, recording vibrant details and evocative scenes on his iPhone as he journeys from India to New Mexico, from Beaux-Arts monuments to rustic barns, from ocean to mountaintop. The images have been curated into dynamic pairs that spark a conversation about the world and the different ways of seeing it. They are accompanied by Tom's reflections, and those of his Instagram followers, in a series of captions, comments and mini essays. This book is a child of the pandemic, a time when people could only dream of traveling or relive past experiences, as Tom has done, from the image banks on their mobile devices. It rejoices in both the potential of new media and the physical pleasure given by a beautifully made and structured book. It allows readers a moment of pause and reflection, so necessary if we are not to be lost in the digital feed.
