Book Handbook of Cognitive and Autonomous Systems for Fire Resilient Infrastructures

Download or read book Handbook of Cognitive and Autonomous Systems for Fire Resilient Infrastructures written by MZ Naser and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-27 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook aims at modernizing the current state of civil engineering and firefighting, especially in this era where infrastructures are reaching new heights, serving diverse populations, and being challenged by unique threats. Its aim is to set the stage toward realizing contemporary, smart, and resilient infrastructure. The Handbook of Cognitive and Autonomous Systems for Fire Resilient Infrastructures draws convergence between civil engineering and firefighting to the modern realm of interdisciplinary sciences (i.e., artificial intelligence, IoT, robotics, sensing, and human psychology). As such, this work aims to revolutionize the current philosophy of design for one of the most notorious extreme events: fire. Unlike other publications, which are narrowed to one specific research area, this handbook cultivates a paradigm in which critical aspects of structural design, technology, and human behavior are studied and examined through chapters written by leaders in their fields. This handbook can also serve as a textbook for graduate and senior undergraduate students in Civil, Mechanical, and Fire Protection engineering programs as well as for students in Architectural and social science disciplines. Students, engineers, academics, professionals, scientists, firefighters, and government officials involved in national and international societies such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), among others, will benefit from this handbook.

Book Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Physical Systems

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Physical Systems written by Anil Kumar Sagar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-03-16 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are growing rapidly in today’s business world. In today's era, 25 billion devices, including machines, sensors, and cameras, are connected and continue to grow steadily. It is assumed that in 2025, 41.6 billion IoT devices will be connected, generating around 79.4 zettabytes of data. IoT and AI are intersecting in various scenarios. IoT-enabled devices are generating a huge amount of data, and with the help of AI, this data is used to build various intelligent models. These intelligent models are helpful in our daily lives and make the world smarter. Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Physical Systems: Principles and Applications addresses issues related to system safety, security, reliability, and deployment strategies in healthcare, military, transportation, energy, infrastructure, smart homes, and smart cities.

  • Pages : 1102 pages

Download or read book Machine Learning written by Kevin P. Murphy and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2012-08-24 with total page 1102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive introduction to machine learning that uses probabilistic models and inference as a unifying approach. Today's Web-enabled deluge of electronic data calls for automated methods of data analysis. Machine learning provides these, developing methods that can automatically detect patterns in data and then use the uncovered patterns to predict future data. This textbook offers a comprehensive and self-contained introduction to the field of machine learning, based on a unified, probabilistic approach. The coverage combines breadth and depth, offering necessary background material on such topics as probability, optimization, and linear algebra as well as discussion of recent developments in the field, including conditional random fields, L1 regularization, and deep learning. The book is written in an informal, accessible style, complete with pseudo-code for the most important algorithms. All topics are copiously illustrated with color images and worked examples drawn from such application domains as biology, text processing, computer vision, and robotics. Rather than providing a cookbook of different heuristic methods, the book stresses a principled model-based approach, often using the language of graphical models to specify models in a concise and intuitive way. Almost all the models described have been implemented in a MATLAB software package—PMTK (probabilistic modeling toolkit)—that is freely available online. The book is suitable for upper-level undergraduates with an introductory-level college math background and beginning graduate students.

Book Application of a Portable GPS desktop Mapping System for Fire Management Support

Download or read book Application of a Portable GPS desktop Mapping System for Fire Management Support written by Delio Tortosa and published by Sault Ste Marie, Ont. : Great Lakes Forestry Centre. This book was released on 1996 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes a project conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of implementing a user-friendly, portable, low-cost global positioning system (GPS) receiver, as well as a notebook-based desktop mapping system, to facilitate rapid updating, inventory, and analysis of forest fires on a near real-time basis. Field trials of the GPS/desktop mapping system consisted of using aerial GPS to determine fire perimeter, to locate hot spots and lightning strikes, and to identify values at risk. Ground GPS was used to survey logging roads, values at risk, and prescribed burn perimeters, and to access certain locations using helicopter-borne GPS. Traditional mapping methods were then compared with the GPS/desktop mapping system. Operational testing of the GPS/desktop system was completed in 1993 by a fire crew in the Sault Ste. Marie district of Ontario.

Book Forest Fire Prediction Frameworks Using Federated Learning and Internet of Things IoT

Download or read book Forest Fire Prediction Frameworks Using Federated Learning and Internet of Things IoT written by Richard Purcell and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forest fire ignition prediction is of paramount importance in safeguarding communities. Machine learning is a promising tool to enhance this. There is, however, a scarcity of publicly accessible forest fire ignition datasets. Moreover, existing platforms, such as the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System, underutilize machine learning capabilities for forest fire ignition classification prediction. Addressing the lack of forest fire ignition datasets and the untapped potential of machine learning, we propose two novel frameworks. One generates forest fire ignition prediction datasets for diverse geographic regions. The other incorporates federated machine learning and Internet of Things technologies to enable efficient and accurate forest fire ignition classification prediction. We evaluate the effectiveness of datasets instantiated from our data framework using various machine learning models. Additionally, using a simulated federated machine learning system we demonstrate prediction accuracy comparable to a centralized system with superior spatial granularity in classifying forest fire ignitions.

Book From Pillars to AI Technology Based Forest Fire Protection Systems

Download or read book From Pillars to AI Technology Based Forest Fire Protection Systems written by Emmanouil Psarakis and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of forest environment in the perspective of the biodiversity as well as from the economic resources which forests enclose, is more than evident. Any threat posed to this critical component of the environment should be identified and attacked through the use of the most efficient available technological means. Early warning and immediate response to a fire event are critical in avoiding great environmental damages. Fire risk assessment, reliable detection and localization of fire as well as motion planning, constitute the most vital ingredients of a fire protection system. In this chapter, we review the evolution of the forest fire protection systems and emphasize on open issues and the improvements that can be achieved using artificial intelligence technology. We start our tour from the pillars which were for a long time period, the only possible method to oversee the forest fires. Then, we will proceed to the exploration of early AI systems and will end-up with nowadays systems that might receive multimodal data from satellites, optical and thermal sensors, smart phones and UAVs and use techniques that cover the spectrum from early signal processing algorithms to latest deep learning-based ones to achieving the ultimate goal.
