Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 20th century's avant-gardes as seen through invites, postcards and various inventive forms of printed communication, from Oskar Schlemmer to Nam June Paik The Archiv der Avantgarden in Dresden contains approximately 1.5 million items of ephemera from the 20th-century avant-gardes. Much of this material involves internal communications from within the art world, such as invitations to events and advertisements for exhibits. Invitation: Archive as Eventcompiles a wide selection of these communications, from a photocopied collage advertising Charlotte Moorman and Nam June Paik's Mixed Media Operato Oskar Schlemmer's handwritten pink postcard inquiring about a gallery show presented by Walter Dexel. Still more event descriptions, case studies, interviews and visual references provide a compelling history of aesthetic trends in graphic design as well as insight into the myriad ways in which artists promoted their own work. Invitation: Archive as Eventprovides an archive-driven take on the social circles and institutions that drove the evolution of contemporary art throughout the 20th century. It provides important sources for scholars, students, artists and curators in the development of a lively and participatory archival model.

This book is a practical and inspirational guide on ways to invite, engage and partner with culturally diverse communities, and how to enfranchise those communities into the fabric of arts and culture in the United States. Book Invitation to Draw

Download or read book Invitation to Draw written by Jean Van't Hul and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Help children draw and think more creatively by inspiring them with interesting and challenging art prompts and questions. Invitation to Draw offers 99 open-ended drawing prompts, each one proposing a question to investigate that encourages children to free associate and problem solve. The perforated pages make it easy to tear out prompts for on-the-go activities or allowing multiple kids to draw at the same time. A blank cake provides the chance to decorate a dream confection, an empty house inspires stories about who lives there, and a grid of triangles supplies the chance to explore abstract art. What might be hiding in that tree? What sort of robot can you design? The possibilities are endless! Drawing prompts inspire and encourage kids to think and draw differently, and sometimes more creatively, than they might when faced with a blank page. By offering constraints such as a pair of eyes or an empty car and asking a question, children begin thinking about the possibilities and answering the question in their heads even before they put pen (or marker or crayon!) to paper. And through the act of drawing and observing the drawing unfold, the brain continues to think and problem solve, opening up all kinds of creative possibilities around that specific idea.

Book excerpt: "Hosts of all kinds, this is a must-read!" --Chris Anderson, owner and curator of TED From the host of the New York Times podcast Together Apart, an exciting new approach to how we gather that will transform the ways we spend our time together—at home, at work, in our communities, and beyond. In The Art of Gathering, Priya Parker argues that the gatherings in our lives are lackluster and unproductive--which they don't have to be. We rely too much on routine and the conventions of gatherings when we should focus on distinctiveness and the people involved. At a time when coming together is more important than ever, Parker sets forth a human-centered approach to gathering that will help everyone create meaningful, memorable experiences, large and small, for work and for play. Drawing on her expertise as a facilitator of high-powered gatherings around the world, Parker takes us inside events of all kinds to show what works, what doesn't, and why. She investigates a wide array of gatherings--conferences, meetings, a courtroom, a flash-mob party, an Arab-Israeli summer camp--and explains how simple, specific changes can invigorate any group experience. The result is a book that's both journey and guide, full of exciting ideas with real-world applications. The Art of Gathering will forever alter the way you look at your next meeting, industry conference, dinner party, and backyard barbecue--and how you host and attend them.

Book excerpt: Whatever art is MUST happen EVERY time art happens!Art = x.Then x must happen every time art happens. Not sometimes, occasionally or even mostly.BUT every time - always. So what is art? There is an answer and it is the foundation of much of my writing. What value does the answer have in a commercial context? All things done in a commercial context are done for business reasons. So what is it about art that is also commercial? How will this help everyone - not just some (artists)? If people pay money there should be some benefit for them. That should be the focus of an art business program. It is my focus. My answers those questions. It's not rocket science but common sense. It's art business for the 21st Century!I have written books focused on ways an artist can earn more money. They grew out of articles I wrote in the Art Professional newsletter. Instead of being scattered over time, as originally published.Common themes were joined as a larger, comprehensive books. My books are available for a small fee.Your potential income is considerably greater than the fee. Some artists have not done foundation activities for a successful career. But they jump into more advanced books but their projects failed.Until recently I wrote the Art Professional newsletter. The newsletter has a focus on the needs of full-time, career artists. On the other hand many of my books are for any professional artist. For those people that book provides what they need.I have taken many years to learn lessons and write books. You are welcome to look elsewhere. But will not find solutions such as I offer. Some may even sound similar but they WILL be different.I doubt if others have individual components nor philosophical orientation. Many who are not familiar with what I write may not realize that.
