Book Fundamentals of Spherical Array Processing

Download or read book Fundamentals of Spherical Array Processing written by Boaz Rafaely and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-27 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of spherical microphone arrays, and was written for graduate students, researchers and engineers who work with spherical microphone arrays in a wide range of applications. The new edition includes additions and modifications, and references supplementary Matlab code to provide the reader with a straightforward start for own implementations. The book is also accompanied by a Matlab manual, which explains how to implement the examples and simulations presented in the book. The first two chapters provide the reader with the necessary mathematical and physical background, including an introduction to the spherical Fourier transform and the formulation of plane-wave sound fields in the spherical harmonic domain. In turn, the third chapter covers the theory of spatial sampling, employed when selecting the positions of microphones to sample sound pressure functions in space. Subsequent chapters highlight various spherical array configurations, including the popular rigid-sphere-based configuration. Beamforming (spatial filtering) in the spherical harmonics domain, including axis-symmetric beamforming, and the performance measures of directivity index and white noise gain are introduced, and a range of optimal beamformers for spherical arrays, including those that achieve maximum directivity and maximum robustness are developed, along with the Dolph–Chebyshev beamformer. The final chapter discusses more advanced beamformers, such as MVDR (minimum variance distortionless response) and LCMV (linearly constrained minimum variance) types, which are tailored to the measured sound field. Book Phased Array Antennas

Download or read book Phased Array Antennas written by R. C. Hansen and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1998-01-19 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first complete guide to phased array design and theory in more than thirty years--destined to become the standard reference in the field well into the twenty-first century The past twenty years have witnessed significant breakthroughs in our understanding of the principles behind phased array antennas and in their design and application. Yet not since R. C. Hansen's 1966 classic, Microwave Scanning Antennas, has there been a comprehensive reference in the field. Phased Array Antennas fills the gap in the professional literature. Phased Array Antennas is geared to the interests of both the practicing design engineer and the antenna array analyst. Written by an internationally recognized expert with more than four decades of experience in the field, it offers detailed coverage of all practical and theoretical aspects of phased arrays--from quantization lobes and low sidelobe pattern design and measurement to superdirectivity and HTS antennas and frequency scanners. It also provides in-depth coverage of topics such as finite array Gibbsian models, photonic feeding and time delay, waveguide simulators, and beam orthogonality. A multitude of original curves and tables show particular behaviors derived from hundreds of programs developed by the author over the past twenty years, and numerous computer design algorithms and numerical tips are found throughout the book. Phased Array Antennas is an indispensable tool-of-the-trade for antenna design engineers, radar engineers, PCS engineers, and communications engineers. It also serves as a complete text in phased array design and theory for advanced undergraduate-and graduate-level courses in electronics and communications.

Book Program Evaluation Theory and Practice

Download or read book Program Evaluation Theory and Practice written by Donna M. Mertens and published by Guilford Press. This book was released on 2012-02-20 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This engaging text takes an evenhanded approach to major theoretical paradigms in evaluation and builds a bridge from them to evaluation practice. Featuring helpful checklists, procedural steps, provocative questions that invite readers to explore their own theoretical assumptions, and practical exercises, the book provides concrete guidance for conducting large- and small-scale evaluations. Numerous sample studies—many with reflective commentary from the evaluators—reveal the process through which an evaluator incorporates a paradigm into an actual research project. The book shows how theory informs methodological choices (the specifics of planning, implementing, and using evaluations). It offers balanced coverage of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. Useful pedagogical features include: *Examples of large- and small-scale evaluations from multiple disciplines. *Beginning-of-chapter reflection questions that set the stage for the material covered. *"Extending your thinking" questions and practical activities that help readers apply particular theoretical paradigms in their own evaluation projects. *Relevant Web links, including pathways to more details about sampling, data collection, and analysis. *Boxes offering a closer look at key evaluation concepts and additional studies. *Checklists for readers to determine if they have followed recommended practice. *A companion website with resources for further learning.

Book Investigation of the Element Pattern in Cylindrical Phased Arrays of Circular Waveguides

Download or read book Investigation of the Element Pattern in Cylindrical Phased Arrays of Circular Waveguides written by Quirino Balzano and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The radiation from the elements in a cylindrical phased array is analyzed theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical investigation has developed a multimodal analysis method for cylindrical arrays. The method is similar to that for plane arrays, whereby, the field inside the element is represented as the superposition of a set of waveguide modes. The method allows the definition and the precise evaluation of the driving point admittance of the elements. A comparison between the driving point admittance in planar and cylindrical arrays is made and the conditions for the use of Wheeler simulators for cylindrical array element design are set.
