Book Why Are We Yelling

Download or read book Why Are We Yelling written by Buster Benson and published by Pan. This book was released on 2021-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The way we argue is broken. Whether it's about Brexit, the existence of ghosts, the best burger in the city or who's allowed to sit in your favourite chair, we end up digging our heels in and yelling at one another or choosing to avoid heated topics entirely. There has to be a better way. Buster Benson, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur with two decades of experience facilitating hard conversations at some of the biggest tech companies in the world, recommends eight things to try in order to make disagreements more productive. By applying these eight new habits, we can flip frustrating, unproductive disagreements into ones that bear fruit and bring people closer together. With this new toolkit we can explore more possibilities and perspectives in the world, simply because we'll no longer be afraid to wade into scary topics of conversation.

Book The Argument Ender

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Eric Washington
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2016-11-14
  • ISBN : 9781540398642
  • Pages : 24 pages

Download or read book The Argument Ender written by David Eric Washington and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-11-14 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a guide for couples and individuals who want to transform their heated discussions from negative rants and tirades, to positive communicating. I believe that we can argue in a non-confrontational way and still get our point across. We must speak to our loved ones respectfully in order to convey a message without destroying the relationship and leaving a bad taste in our mouths. This has to be done though with the most pure intentions. Each partner must have the highest level of respect for self and the partner involved. In the past I was opposed to any kind of arguments but as I grow as an individual I have come to know that arguments are not only unavoidable but they can have a very positive impact on a relationship and quite frankly on one's health. Conversely, we tend to have, for the most part, negative results from arguments because we don't know components of a good argument and therefore we have the tendency to attack and destroy one another with our mouths in order to get our point across. This often leaves our relationship in a compromised position and pushes one or both of us into a bad place. The solution is simple... layout the ground rules and follow them closely and the result will be one of peace and harmony in the relationship.

Book The Argument Culture

Download or read book The Argument Culture written by Deborah Tannen and published by Virago Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A reporter gives one side of the story and then, to be 'fair', finds an advocate for the opposite side. But what if the truth lies somewhere in the middle? Why do we see everything as either / or? In the media, in politics (particularly in the House of Commons), in our classrooms and courtrooms, issues are taken up in adversarial debate between opposite extremes rather than discussed and explored. This pervasive warlike atmosphere encourages us to believe that opposition is the best way to get anything done: the best way to explore an idea is to set up a debate; the best way to settle disputes is litigation; the best way to show you're really thinking is to criticise and attack. Tannen once again brilliantly identifies a mode of communication - the argument culture - that is getting in the way of understanding and needlessly polarising us.

Book Games Within Games

Download or read book Games Within Games written by D.V.K. RAO, IOFS (Retd.) and published by Prowess Publishing. This book was released on 2020-09-23 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Games within Games was not written with any game plan in mind but was rather conceived to facilitate the examination of a key area of management, leadership and often the lack of it, with an ease of approachability which is at once entertaining and enlightening. It was, indeed, a challenge to balance the two. The book is the happy result of the author’s three and half decades of service with the Government of India which accorded him with the opportunity to be with all manner of bosses: the good, the bad and the ugly. They all mattered, in their own way, their presence was sometimes commanding, sometimes demanding and sometimes reminding. They all served a purpose to exemplify themselves, some as leaders with a difference and others with an indifference. The book, hopefully, will serve its purpose of learning with laughter which, regretfully, not many management books manage to achieve. There’s some joy in sacrificing oneself at the altar of humour rather than being the proverbial sacrificial lamb.

Book Identity Narcissism and the Other

Download or read book Identity Narcissism and the Other written by Jean Arundale and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practitioners of psychoanalysis find three central themes to be recurrent and ubiquitous in every analysis; firstly, issues around identity, the struggle to know the self, to understand the self and to be the self in an authentic way. Intricately entangled with self-identity is the problem of narcissism, essentially viewed as a defensive retreat to a mental state characterized by an unconscious belief in the special value of the self and the diminution of the Other. However, there are a multitude of inherent anxieties involved in close and intimate relationships. As Freud pointed out, even in our most intimate relationships there is an element of hostility. Threats to both the self and other, and various anxieties around libidinal contact, will be examined in this book using case material, and the relationship between these three important themes, identity, narcissism and the other, separate but interconnected, will be explored.

Book The Essential Guide to Children and Separation

Download or read book The Essential Guide to Children and Separation written by Jennifer Croly and published by Lion Books. This book was released on 2013-08-20 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you know a child affected by the break-up of their parents' marriage? It could be your own child or grandchild, your niece, nephew, or even one of your pupils. Divorce is common but for each child involved, it is a bewildering and hurtful experience, similar to bereavement, yet without the same level of support. This practical guide is written by a mother who saw how divorce impacted her own four children. It shows how family break-up affects children differently at various ages, and carries on doing so in new ways at later stages of life and as parents move on into new relationships, maybe with new siblings. The Essential Guide to Children and Separation includes interviews with those who have come through divorce, and a lot of input from children currently affected by parental separation. This helpful and caring book shows that divorce may mean the end of a marriage, but does not need to be the end of the world for the children involved.

Book God Fixed It

  • Publisher : Inspiring Voices
  • Release : 2013-08-13
  • ISBN : 1462406815
  • Pages : 202 pages

Download or read book God Fixed It written by Molly Fay and published by Inspiring Voices. This book was released on 2013-08-13 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molly was black-balled fifteen minutes after she arrived at church camp. Unable to shake off the unpopularity and low self-image that followed, she turned to God to fix it. God listened, maybe chuckled a bit and probably shook His head in sympathy at Mollys mishaps. Since girls were not allowed to wear pants to school, Molly tells this story: I would do as Mother suggested: whip my pants off in the cloakroom in the morning and straighten my skirt, then put my pants back on for the ride home after school. The storm, true to Mothers prediction, lasted all night. I jumped off my bike at the street crossing and pushed the front tire off the curb. In that split-second, my pants tumbled down circling my shoes. My skirt remained wadded up around my fanny. Kids behind me gasped, and someone started to laugh. The sound pierced the still morning air like laughter on Jack Bennys radio show. Within moments all the kids giggled and pointed at my struggle to get my pants up. The crossing guards startled look made my face get hot with embarrassment before I could get my pants buttoned. I wanted to tell him he could see I had a skirt on Mollys inability to say no followed her into marriage. She used the saying, You made your bed; now lie in it, to adjust to wrong decisions until what she wanted the most was denied. What would she do now?
