Book Survey Spectra of a Pinched Argon Plasma

Download or read book Survey Spectra of a Pinched Argon Plasma written by D. B. Sleator and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preliminary experiments were performed to determine the feasibility of measuring temperature in an argon theta pinch tube by the two-line ratio method. Calculations were made showing the temperature errors to be expected and the degree to which various types of thermal equilibrium exist as a function of time and electron density. Time integrated spectrograms were taken and a number of argon II lines were identified for which gf-values are known. Densitometer traces of the films indicated that the line shapes are suitable for the two-line method and an approximate calculation was made indicating a temperature of 35,000K. It was concluded that time resolved measurements would be desirable. (Author).

Book A plasma chemistry study on global model for argon gas as a propellant to electrostatic gridded ion thruster

Download or read book A plasma chemistry study on global model for argon gas as a propellant to electrostatic gridded ion thruster written by Bernardo Vieira Magaldi and published by Editora Dialética. This book was released on 2024-07-31 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electric propulsion optimizes propellant mass and meets new propulsion device demands. These devices adjust satellite orbits and enable long missions. Among various thrusters, electrostatic ones have well-defined physics, simplifying operational parameter optimization. This study developed a global model for an Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) cylindrical ion thruster with an output polarized grid system. Argon propellant is injected into the chamber, and ICP plasma is generated by a radiofrequency current. Neutral and excited species are accelerated out by diffusion, while ionized species are accelerated via the polarized grids' electric field. The polarized grid system was optimized for better plasma sheath use. The model considers single and multi-step ionization, the Electron Energy Distribution Function (EEDF), neutral gas, and electron power balance equations. Excited species influence ionization energy, but not ionic density. However, the ion substitution rate increases, essential for thrust and specific impulse. The model determines the neutral gas temperature by considering the power balance and interactions with other species.

Book Theory of Gas Discharge Plasma

Download or read book Theory of Gas Discharge Plasma written by Boris M. Smirnov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-17 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the theory of gas discharge plasmas in a didactical way. It explains the processes in gas discharge plasmas. A gas discharge plasma is an ionized gas which is supported by an external electric field. Therefore its parameters are determined by processes in it. The properties of a gas discharge plasma depend on its gas component, types of external fields, their geometry and regimes of gas discharge. Fundamentals of a gas discharge plasma include elementary, radiative and transport processes which are included in its kinetics influence. They are represented in this book together with the analysis of simple gas discharges. These general principles are applied to stationary gas discharge plasmas of helium and argon. The analysis of such plasmas under certain conditions is theoretically determined by numerical plasma parameters for given regimes and conditions.

Book Thermodynamic Diagrams for High Temperature Plasmas of Air Air Carbon Carbon Hydrogen Mixtures and Argon

Download or read book Thermodynamic Diagrams for High Temperature Plasmas of Air Air Carbon Carbon Hydrogen Mixtures and Argon written by H. Kroepelin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermodynamic Diagrams for High Temperature Plasmas of Air, Air-Carbon, Carbon-Hydrogen Mixtures, and Argon provides information relating to the properties of equilibrium gas plasmas formed from hydrocarbons, from air without argon, from pure argon, and from mixtures of air and carbon at various compositions, temperatures and pressures. The data are presented in graphical rather than tabular form to provide a clearer picture of the plasma processes investigated. This book is composed of four chapters, and begins with the introduction to the characteristics of plasmas, with emphasis on their thermodynamic properties. The succeeding chapter deals with the theoretical basis of the computations of thermodynamic properties using a system of equations derived from quantized Boltzmann statistics. These topics are followed by discussions on the calculation of equilibrium compositions and the thermodynamic values for thermal plasmas. The final chapter describes proposed models on which the calculations are based. This book will prove useful to chemical technologists and researchers.

Book Spectroscopic Characterization of Post Cluster Argon Plasmas During the Blast Wave Expansion

Download or read book Spectroscopic Characterization of Post Cluster Argon Plasmas During the Blast Wave Expansion written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work we present temperature diagnostics of an expanding laser-produced argon plasma. A short-pulse (35fs) laser with an intensity of I = 1017W/cm2 deposits (almost equal to) 100 mJ of energy into argon clusters. This generates a hot plasma filament that develops into a cylindrically expanding shock. We develop spectral diagnostics for the temperatures of the argon plasma in the shock region and the preionized region ahead of the shock. A collisional-radiative model is applied to explore line intensity ratios derived from Ar II - Ar IV spectra that are sensitive to temperatures in a few eV range. The results of hydrodynamic simulations are employed to derive a time dependent radiative transport calculation that generates the theoretical emission spectra from the expanding plasma.

The underlying theory is described in 'Partition Functions and Thermodynamic Properties of High Temperature Gases', AEDC-TDR-64-22. (Author).

Book The Ionization Equilibrium of Optically Thick Argon Z Pinch Plasmas for Electron Temperatures Between 25 and 65 EV

Download or read book The Ionization Equilibrium of Optically Thick Argon Z Pinch Plasmas for Electron Temperatures Between 25 and 65 EV written by J. P. Apruzese and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calculations of the ionization balance of optically thick argon plasmas of electron temperature 25-65 eV are presented. A multistage, multilevel model of argon ions with accurate radiation transport of about 50 lines in the sodium, neon, and flourine-like stages forms the basis of the calculations. By comparison with similar optically thin calculations, the effects on ionization of radiative and collisional pumping of excited states of these stages is delineated. In particular, the broad temperature distribution of the neon-like stage is compressed by line photon pumping to a narrower regime of existence because of ionization from the excited states. The relevance to the 3p-3s lasing scheme in neon-like argon is briefly discussed. Keywords: Ionization equilibrium; Gamble-II generator; Argon plasma; Collisional pumping. (Author).

Book Opacity Measurements in Shock generated Argon Plasmas

Download or read book Opacity Measurements in Shock generated Argon Plasmas written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dense plasmas having uniform and constant density and temperature are generated by passage of a planar shock wave through gas. The opacity of the plasma is accurately measured versus wavelength by recording the risetime of emitted light. This technique is applicable to a wide variety of species and plasma conditions. Initial experiments in argon have produced plasmas with 2 eV temperatures, 0.004--0.04 g/cm[sup 3] densities, and coupling parameters [Gamma] [approximately]0.3--0.7. Measurements in visible light are compared with calculations using the HOPE code. An interesting peak in the capacity at 400 nm is observed for the first time and is identified with the 4s-5p transition in excited neutral argon atoms.
