Book The Grand Lexicon of Astronology

Download or read book The Grand Lexicon of Astronology written by Cometan and published by Astral Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-25 with total page 1901 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Grand Lexicon of Astronology is the principal post-disquisitional segment of the Omnidoxy within the Appendix of the Omnidoxy as part of the Original Omnidoxical Series solely authored and organised by Cometan and published by the Astronist Institution. The Grand Lexicon makes up the largest portion of the Appendix of the Omnidoxy at over 300,000 words and is considered the first dictionary of not only Astronism itself, but the entire Astronic tradition and culture, as studied by the astronology discipline. The Grand Lexicon includes terms across the entire Astronic tradition regarding both Millettarian and Astronist philosophies and cultures. Its authority is further solidified through its categorised as part of the Omnidoxy and demonstrates its importance to the founding of Astronism and acts as a great expander of the elements surrounding the religion. Although there will be many more dictionaries concerning Astronism and astronology with greater comprehensiveness of the entirety of these vast subjects, The Grand Lexicon of Astronology will remain the progenitor for all of these.

Book The Ecological Basis of Conservation

Download or read book The Ecological Basis of Conservation written by Steward Pickett and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its inception, the U.S. Department of the Interior has been charged with a conflicting mission. One set of statutes demands that the department must develop America's lands, that it get our trees, water, oil, and minerals out into the marketplace. Yet an opposing set of laws orders us to conserve these same resources, to preserve them for the long term and to consider the noncommodity values of our public landscape. That dichotomy, between rapid exploitation and long-term protection, demands what I see as the most significant policy departure of my tenure in office: the use of science-interdisciplinary science-as the primary basis for land management decisions. For more than a century, that has not been the case. Instead, we have managed this dichotomy by compartmentalizing the American landscape. Congress and my predecessors handled resource conflicts by drawing enclosures: "We'll create a national park here," they said, "and we'll put a wildlife refuge over there." Simple enough, as far as protection goes. And outside those protected areas, the message was equally simplistic: "Y'all come and get it. Have at it." The nature and the pace of the resource extraction was not at issue; if you could find it, it was yours.

Book excerpt: The Volcanoes of Mars offers a clear, cohesive summary of Mars volcanology. It begins with an introduction to the geology and geography of the red planet and an overview of its volcanic history, and continues to discuss each distinct volcanic province, identifying the common and unique aspects of each region. Incorporating basic volcanological information and constraints on the regional geologic history derived from geologic mapping, the book also examines current constraints on the composition of the volcanic rocks as investigated by both orbiting spacecraft and rovers. In addition, it compares the features of Martian volcanoes to those seen on other volcanic bodies. Concluding with prospects for new knowledge to be gained from future Mars missions, this book brings researchers in volcanology and the study of Mars up to date on the latest findings in the study of volcanoes on Mars, allowing the reader to compare and contrast Martian volcanoes to volcanoes studied on Earth and throughout the Solar System. Presents clearly organized text and figures that will quickly allow the reader to find specific aspects of Martian volcanism Includes definitions of geological and volcanological terms throughout to aid interdisciplinary understanding Summarizes key results for each volcanic region of Mars and provides copious citations to the research literature to facilitate further discovery Synthesizes the most current data from multiple spacecraft missions, including the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, as well as geochemical data from Martian meteorites Utilizes published geologic mapping results to highlight the detailed knowledge that exists for each region
