Book Arene Ruthenium Complexes Containing Nitrogen and Oxygen Donor Ligands

Download or read book Arene Ruthenium Complexes Containing Nitrogen and Oxygen Donor Ligands written by Sanjay Kumar Singh and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific community has shown decent research interest in the field of organometallic complexes based on platinum group metals owing to their plausible use in synthetic and industrial chemistry. In this regard, transition metal complexes containing 6-arene, 5-Cp and Cp* have drawn special attention. In particular, arene complexes have emerged as versatile intermediate in organic synthesis as a consequence of the ease with which the arene ligand can be functionalized. The presence of a transition metal center and ancillary ligands on one face of the coordinated arene can serve as a valuable stereochemical element. The utility of 6-arene and 5-Cp and Cp* metal complexes emanates not only from the reactivity inherent to the coordinated ring but, also from the control over three facially disposed coordinated sites about a given metal center afforded by incorporation of an arene ligand. In search of new systems based on arene ruthenium chemistry which can behave as potential metallo-ligands, new 6-arene ruthenium and analogous 5-Cp complexes based on chelating N, N and N, O donor ligands and non-chelating nitrogen donor organic ligands has been synthesized and fully characterized.

Book excerpt: This book will describe Ruthenium complexes as chemotherapeutic agent specifically at tumor site. It has been the most challenging task in the area of cancer therapy. Nanoparticles are now emerging as the most effective alternative to traditional chemotherapeutic approach. Nanoparticles have been shown to be useful in this respect. However, in view of organ system complicacies, instead of using nanoparticles as a delivery tool, it will be more appropriate to synthesize a drug of nanoparticle size that can use blood transport mechanism to reach the tumor site and regress cancer. Due to less toxicity and effective bio-distribution, ruthenium (Ru) complexes are of much current interest. Additionally, lumiscent Ru-complexes can be synthesized in nanoparticle size and can be directly traced at tissue level. The book will contain the synthesis, characterization, and applications of various Ruthenium complexes as chemotherapeutic agents. The book will also cover the introduction to chemotherapy, classification of Ru- complexes with respect to their oxidation states and geometry, Ruthenium complexes of nano size: shape and binding- selectivity, binding of ruthenium complexes with DNA, DNA cleavage studies and cytotoxicity. The present book will be more beneficial to researchers, scientists and biomedical. Current book will empower specially to younger generation to create a new world of ruthenium chemistry in material science as well as in medicines. This book will be also beneficial to national/international research laboratories, and academia with interest in the area of coordination chemistry more especially to the Ruthenium compounds and its applications.

Book Half sandwich Complexes of Ruthenium Supported by N Heterocyclic Carbene Ligands

Download or read book Half sandwich Complexes of Ruthenium Supported by N Heterocyclic Carbene Ligands written by Van Hung Mai and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents the preparation and catalytic reactivity of novel half-sandwich ruthenium complexes supported by N-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) ligands. The cationic half-sandwich ruthenium complexes [Cp(IPr)Ru(CH3CN)2]+ show interesting reactivities toward the transfer hydrogenation of different unsaturated substrates, such as ketones, olefins, N-heterocycles, and nitriles. Kinetic studies disclose that a neutral trishydride ruthenium complex is actually involved in the catalytic cycle, playing the role as a resting state. Further investigations on the sub-class of trishydride ruthenium complexes bearing NHC ligands (Cp'(NHC)RuH3) reveal that these complexes have an unusual and great catalytic performance toward the hydrodefluorination (HDF) of fluorinated aromatic and aliphatic compounds. The combined kinetic studies, cross-over experiments and rate law analysis suggest an unusual mechanistic pathway for the Cp*(IPr)RuH3 catalyzed HDF. This study is one of the rare examples where isopropanol is employed as a reducing agent for the metal-mediated HDF reaction. A class of silyl dihydride ruthenium complexes, derived from Cp(IPr)RuH3 are prepared. These silyl hydrido derivatives are great compounds for the study of the inter ligand hypervalent interaction (IHI), an interesting phenomenon for many non-classical silane complexes. This study also suggests that the replacement of phosphines by their isolobally analogous NHC ligands result in stronger IHI interactions in the corresponding compounds. Another type of non-classical interaction was systematically scrutinized in a ii series of new cationic and neutral silane sigma complexes of ruthenium bearing different silyl moieties. These new NHC-supported ruthenium complexes allow for direct comparation with the known phosphine analogues, which reveals interplay of steric and electronic factors on the extent of Si-H complexation to metal and the extent of additional interligand interactions between Ru-Cl and chlorosilane ligand. Finally, new trishydride ruthenium complexes bearing NHC ligands (Cp'(NHC)RuH3) catalyze the H/D exchange reaction of various N-heterocycle substrates; their catalytic performance can be considered as one of the mildest, and most efficient approaches.

Book Eta6 arene Tethered Ruthenium ii Complexes and Half metallocene Dithiocarbamate Ruthenium iv Complex for Olefin Polymerization

Download or read book Eta6 arene Tethered Ruthenium ii Complexes and Half metallocene Dithiocarbamate Ruthenium iv Complex for Olefin Polymerization written by Miguel Angel Camacho Fernandez and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are very few reports of ruthenium complexes for olefin polymerization and the active species are unknown. In this dissertation we explore a series of new ruthenium II and IV complexes for olefin polymerization catalysis. We synthesized an arene-tethered ruthenium complex (eta6-C6H5(CH2)3SCH3RuCl2) capable of catalyzing ethylene polymerization using AlMe2Cl as cocatalyst. Homologous dimethylated eta6-C6H5(CH2)3SCH3Ru(CH3)2 complex in the presence of ethylene also yielded polyethylene when activated with HBArF ([H(Et2O)2]+[BAr'4]- (where Ar'=3,5-(CF3)2C6H3)). Mechanistic studies by 1H-NMR and mass spectrometry support a ruthenium cationic [eta6-C6H5(CH2)3SCH3Ru(oligomer)]+ complex as the polymerization active species. This has unambiguously demonstrated for the first time a ruthenium complex as the active species for catalyzing olefin insertion polymerization. We also studied heteroatom effect eta6-Arene tethered ruthenium (II) complexes on polymerization activity. Complexes (eta6-C6H5(CH2)3SCH3RuCl2), (eta6-C6H5(CH2)3N(CH3)2RuCl2), and [(eta6-C6H5(CH2)3OCH3RuCl2)]2 with coordinating oxygen, sulfur, and nitrogen heteroatoms in the tethered arms have been compared for olefin polymerization. Nitrogen and sulfur-containing complexes are active for olefin polymerization while oxygen-containing complex is inactive. The nitrogen-containing complex is 1.5-fold more active than the sulfur-containing complex. The polymers obtained are composed of two different fractions, a high molecular weight fraction (55-161 kg*mol-1) and a low molecular weight fraction (276-761 g*mol-1). The polydispersities of both fractions are narrow, indicating a single-site catalyst. DFT calculations were carried out on to determine the migratory insertion barriers. Nitrogen-containing complex was found to have a migratory insertion barrier of the chain propagation of 19.4 kcal*mol-1 while sulfur-containing was found to be 21.8 kcal*mol-1. Theoretical calculations are in agreement with the experimental polymerization activity results. We hypothesize that a more electron deficient ruthenium complex will be more active. We synthesized Ru(IV) dimethyl complex [Cp*(k2-S2CNMe2)RuIVMe2] that polymerizes ethylene with higher activity. The polymers obtained were linear with high molecular weights (up to 322 kg*mol-1) and narrow monomodal molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn=1.69-2.50). Pronounced counterion effects were observed: the methylaluminoxane activator gave the highest productivities, whereas HBArF resulted in no activity. These results are further supported by DFT calculations, which indicate a low migratory insertion barrier for chain propagation (9.8 kcal*mol-1) but high ethylene uptake energies (15.6 kcal*mol-1).
