Book Love in the New Millennium

Download or read book Love in the New Millennium written by Can Xue and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most ambitious work of fiction by a writer widely considered the most important novelist working in China today In this darkly comic novel, a group of women inhabits a world of constant surveillance, where informants lurk in the flowerbeds and false reports fly. Conspiracies abound in a community that normalizes paranoia and suspicion. Some try to flee—whether to a mysterious gambling bordello or to ancestral homes that can only be reached underground through muddy caves, sewers, and tunnels. Others seek out the refuge of Nest County, where traditional Chinese herbal medicines can reshape or psychologically transport the self. Each life is circumscribed by buried secrets and transcendent delusions. Can Xue's masterful love stories for the new millennium trace love's many guises—satirical, tragic, transient, lasting, nebulous, and fulfilling—against a kaleidoscopic backdrop drawn from East and West of commerce and industry, fraud and exploitation, sex and romance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I hope as you venture into the mind of a millennial and the complexity of why they are crying, but no one is listening to the scream that you are intrigued like never before. I believe this book will enlighten you about the many questions that people have about millennials. I am a father of four millennials with an age spanning from twenty-six to thirty-seven years old. Shera and I raised two boys and two girls and sent them all to college for further education. Here are some things we learned as we raised these complex children into adulthood, seeing and hearing the many situations that they and their peers have gone through. Millennials in the workforce are different from any age group, and I will detail why. For a millennial, maturity is the ability to see and act on the behalf of others. Immaturity is not seeing things from someone else’s point of view. It’s natural for millennials to exude immaturity in the workplace because they lack the necessary context and experience. But unfortunately, it’s all too common for leaders of millennials to also be immature. Leaders of millennials aren’t immature in their experience, knowledge, or skills but rather in seeing the world from the perspective of millennials. The digital age has fundamentally rewired millennials. Millennials’ unprecedented digital upbringing has made it difficult for experienced leaders to see the world from their point of view. This results in leaders becoming frustrated and defaulting to correcting instead of connecting. Millennials aren’t trying to be difficult or frustrate you on purpose. They have had a very different upbringing. This is one that the world has never seen, which has created a new breed of worker, and thus, a new breed of leader is needed to effectively and influentially lead them. Finally, I pray by the grace of our Lord Jesus that this book will help you understand the mind of the millennial as we introduce to you The Cry of the Millennial.

Download or read book Penal Censure written by Antje du Bois-Pedain and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-04-04 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exploration of penal censure is inspired by the 40th anniversary of the publication of Andreas von Hirsch's Doing Justice, which opened up a fresh set of issues in theorisation about punishment that eventually led von Hirsch to ground his proposed model of desert-based sentencing on the notion of penal censure. Von Hirsch's work thus provides an obvious starting-point for an exploration of the importance of censure for the justification of punishment, both within his theory of just deserts and from the perspectives of other theoretical approaches. It also provides an opportunity for engaging with censure more broadly from philosophical, sociological–anthropological and individual–psychological perspectives. The essays in this collection map the conceptual territory of censure from these different perspectives, address issues for desert theory that arise from fuller understandings of censure, and consider afresh the role of censure within the jurisprudence of punishment. They show that analyses of censure from different vantage points can significantly enrich punishment theory, not least by providing a conceptual basis for perceiving common ground between and thus connecting different strands of penal theory.

Book Carroll Shelby

Download or read book Carroll Shelby written by Rinsey Mills and published by Motorbooks. This book was released on 2020-06-02 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written with Carroll Shelby's full collaboration and with a foreword by Edsel B. Ford II, the great-grandson of Henry Ford, this is the definitive record of America's preeminent twentieth century sports car builder and racer—now available as an ebook. It was motoring author Rinsey Mills' passion for AC cars and motorsports history that led to his first meeting with Carroll Shelby. His suggestion that they should collaborate in order to create an accurate record of Shelby's life and achievements at first was rebuffed but later taken up with enthusiasm. This authorized biography is the result. Carroll Shelby: The Authorized Biography was a long time in the making, as Mills left no stone unturned in his quest to produce the complete study of Shelby's remarkable life. He carried out extensive research and conducted numerous interviews, fully capturing the narrative of Carroll Shelby within and outside of the automotive racing world, including his: Childhood in Texas Wartime service with the Army Air Force Postwar entrepreneurship Earliest race wins in 1952 Legendary 1959 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Monumental release of the first Cobra and the formation of Shelby American in 1962 Historical partnership with Ford that would last for decades Personal interests and travels Present-day legacy Fascinating photographs from Shelby's personal collection complete a book whose original hardcover edition was published mere weeks before his passing, making Carroll Shelby: The Authorized Biographya magnificent and lasting tribute to one of the greatest automotive figures of the twentieth century.
