Book excerpt: NEVER GIVE YOUR SLANDERER THE PLEASURE OF RUINING YOU! Dear Reader, This book is not a religious one though I am Christian. On the contrary it is purely based on psychology, law and medicine. The defamation victim need not be a Christian in order to understand this book. It is a simple guide to enable people to help themselves. This is a guide for slander victims; it will help them to understand their perpetrators and handle the problems effectively. It aims at helping the slander victims to realize their responsibilities to themselves, get back their lost health ( physical, mental, emotional and spiritual), and to heal, rebuild themselves more stronger and emerge as a winner. If you have a family member or friend who is being slandered, kindly recommend this book to them. If you have any other doubts after reading this book feel free to leave an email. I will be glad to be of help. I started a new page today on FB titled Sandra Houston-Counseling & Prayers. You can leave a message there. Like I said this book focuses on psychology, medicine and legal aspects only (though it is written with much love and prayers). Book excerpt: The hottest and most controversial book of the year! Find out who really controls the media in America. “[Ann Coulter] is never in doubt. And that, along with her bright writing, sense of irony and outrage, and her relish at finally hitting back at political opponents (especially in the media) is what makes Slander such refreshing and provocative reading.” —Los Angeles Times “[Ann Coulter] is a fluent polemicist with a gift for Menckenesque invective . . . and she can harness such language to subtle, syllogistic argument.” —Washington Post Book World “The most popular nonfiction book in America.”—New York Times “The real value of Slander . . . is not in the jokes or devastating exposés of liberal politicians and their allies, but the serious and scholarly study of just how entrenched the media prejudice is against anyone whose politics are even faintly conservative.” —New York Sun “Written with a great deal of passion . . . the real source of its strength—and its usefulness—was its painstaking marshalling of evidence . . . More important than [High Crimes and Misdemeanors] because it addresses a much broader issue, and one of lasting significance.”—National Review

Book Slander What Does the Bible Say About Slander

Download or read book Slander What Does the Bible Say About Slander written by Sandra Houston and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SLANDER IS NOTHING LESS THAN MURDER- MURDERING SOMEONE WITH WORDS! We, the common people, come across slander and libel very often these days with the advent of internet, social-networking sites, forums and blogs. It seems like people lost their ability to "think" before they speak or type anything harmful. It is not hush-hush secret gossips or private friendly "banters" anymore (which is equally sick and disgusting) but it is aired in public where it reaches almost everyone we know. Slanderers are mainly losers who lead loser lives. They are immature, envious, pessimistic attention-seekers who are desperate, unhappy and have a whole lot of mental conditions. Slander causes confusion, anger, shock, trauma, hurt, humiliation, stress, anxiety and depression to the victim and their loved ones. It is a crime and a deadly sin. The most painful thing is when someone who claims to be a Christian slanders a person with lies and assumptions. Christians who are slandered by other "Christians" is traumatized as it is confusing and unexpected to be attacked by someone of your own kind. But are those monsters really of your own kind? Do parts of the same body viz. Christ hurt each other? This book aims to show who a slanderer really is. They are NOT Christians. Understanding about the enemy's true color brings peace as truth will set you free. I know that I will be attacked by the so-called Christians who wants to justify their actions or hobbies of slandering. I don't care. All I want to do is to reach out to those who are being slandered. God bless you. -Sandra Houston

  • Pages : 268 pages

Download or read book Ordeal by Slander written by Owen Lattimore and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2004 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joseph McCarthy was not yet a household name in 1950 when Owen Lattimore was labeled by the senator from Wisconsin as the “top Russian espionage agent in the country.” Lattimore, in Kabul, Afghanistan, learned about the accusation a week later. Having already lost valuable time to rebut the smear, he succinctly cabled back that the charge was “pure moonshine,” and returned to the United States to defend his good name. He soon dared McCarthy to utter his slander in a venue other than the Senate, where congressional immunity shielded him from lawsuits, but he refused to do so. Following a torturous Senate inquisition, Lattimore published this riveting book which he wrote in white-hot indignation. Judged at the time to be “a masterpiece of factual exposition [and] a social document of first-rate importance,”* this absorbing narrative chronicles how the ordeal threw Lattimore’s life into perilous straits, and how he defended himself, while undermining the credibility of his accusers. In a battle for his very liberty, Lattimore prepared for the equivalent of an alley fight with the brawling senator. His supremely competent wife, Eleanor, was his trusted aide; along with attorney Abe Fortas they drew out of Lattimore’s writings passages that would prove his loyalty. Yet, as a scholar who was accustomed to nuanced interpretations of current affairs, his accusers were able to conflate the same writings into a traitor’s hidden agenda. Ordeal by Slander was the first great book to come out of the McCarthy era, and it remains a supremely topical book for today. “A tremendously stirring, human drama.”—The Atlantic Monthly “A disturbing and illuminating book.”—The New Yorker

Book Defamation Law and Social Attitudes

Download or read book Defamation Law and Social Attitudes written by Roy Baker and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Because the law of defamation is about reputation and thus necessarily about community and social attitudes, Baker's serious empirical analysis of just those community and social attitudes about defamation and about reputation is a novel and important contribution to the literature on libel and slander. It will be a useful corrective to the various empirically unsupported assertions that dominate the court cases and the academic literature on the topic.' Frederick Schauer, University of Virginia, US 'This book shines a welcome light on a neglected area of defamation law: how juries and judges determine what it means to say a statement is defamatory. The author employs well-designed empirical research to provide concrete answers, and the reform he proposes is sensible and workable. The book should be must-reading for anyone who seeks to understand how the law does or does not protect reputation especially lawyers and judges who try libel cases.' David A. Anderson, University of Texas Law School, US 'When defamation jurors decide whether a statement about someone is "defamatory", the question for them to answer is whether it would generate disapproval among "ordinary reasonable people". It has generally been assumed that they answer this question correctly. What Roy Baker discovered through empirical research is that this assumption may often be wrong. This fascinating and important book sets out his findings, alongside a broad-ranging and perceptive analysis of the law's approach to defining "defamatory".' Michael Chesterman, The University of New South Wales, Australia 'This refreshingly original work is an essential addition to the libraries of all defamation aficionados. Through empirical evidence, including interviews with judges and practitioners, and surveys of the general public, Dr Baker convincingly demonstrates the human propensity to overestimate the negative effect that defamatory imputations may have on other people ("the third person effect"). The conventional "ordinary reasonable person" test becomes in practice an "ordinary unreasonable person" test, regrettably lowering the defamation threshold and further curtailing freedom of communication.' Michael Gillooly, The University of Western Australia The common law determines whether a publication is defamatory by considering how 'ordinary reasonable people' would respond to it. But how does the law work in practice? Who are these 'ordinary reasonable people' and what do they think? This book examines the psychology behind how judges, juries and lawyers decide what is defamatory. Drawing on a thorough examination of case law, as well as extensive empirical research, including surveys involving over 4,000 members of the general public, interviews with judges and legal practitioners and focus groups representing various sections of the community, this book concludes that the law reflects fundamental misperceptions about what people think and how they are influenced by the media. The result is that the law tends to operate so as to unfairly disadvantage publishers, thus contributing to defamation law's infamous 'chilling effect' on free speech. This unique and controversial book will appeal to judges, defamation law practitioners and scholars in various common law jurisdictions, media outlets, academics engaged in researching and teaching torts and media law, as well as those working within the disciplines of media or communications studies and psychology. Anyone concerned with the law's interaction with public opinion, as well as how people interpret the media will find much to interest them in this fascinating study.

Book Slandering the Jew

  • Author : Susanna Drake
  • Publisher : University of Pennsylvania Press
  • Release : 2013-07-16
  • ISBN : 0812208242

Download or read book Slandering the Jew written by Susanna Drake and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2013-07-16 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Christian leaders in the first through fifth centuries embraced ascetic interpretations of the Bible and practices of sexual renunciation, sexual slander—such as the accusations Paul leveled against wayward Gentiles in the New Testament—played a pivotal role in the formation of early Christian identity. In particular, the imagined construct of the lascivious, literal-minded Jew served as a convenient foil to the chaste Christian ideal. Susanna Drake examines representations of Jewish sexuality in early Christian writings that use accusations of carnality, fleshliness, bestiality, and licentiousness as strategies to differentiate the "spiritual" Christian from the "carnal" Jew. Church fathers such as Justin Martyr, Hippolytus of Rome, Origen of Alexandria, and John Chrysostom portrayed Jewish men variously as dangerously hypersexual, at times literally seducing virtuous Christians into heresy, or as weak and effeminate, unable to control bodily impulses or govern their wives. As Drake shows, these carnal caricatures served not only to emphasize religious difference between Christians and Jews but also to justify increased legal constraints and violent acts against Jews as the interests of Christian leaders began to dovetail with the interests of the empire. Placing Christian representations of Jews at the root of the destruction of synagogues and mobbing of Jewish communities in the late fourth and early fifth centuries, Slandering the Jew casts new light on the intersections of sexuality, violence, representation, and religious identity.
