Book Archives and Records

Download or read book Archives and Records written by Mikuláš Čtvrtník and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book addresses the protection of privacy and personality rights in public records, records management, historical sources, and archives; and historical and current access to them in a broad international comparative perspective. Considering the question "can archiving pose a security risk to the protection of sensitive data and human rights?", it analyses data security and presents several significant cases of the misuse of sensitive personal data, such as census data or medical records. It examines archival inflation and the minimisation and reduction of data in public records and archives, including data anonymisation and pseudonymisation, and the risks of deanonymisation and reidentification of persons. The book looks at post-mortem privacy protection, the relationship of the right to know and the right to be forgotten and introduces a specific model of four categories of the right to be forgotten. In its conclusion, the book presents a set of recommendations for archives and records management. Mikulas Ctvrtnik, Ph.D. visiting assistant professor at Charles University in Prague, and assistant professor at Jan Evangelista Purkyne University in Usti nad Labem. Author of several monographs, including Geschichte der Geschichtswissenschaft: Der tschechische Historiker Zdenek Kalista und die Tradition der deutschen Geistesgeschichte published in Germany; his latest book discusses intellectual history in the context of European historiography of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Book Displaced Archives

Download or read book Displaced Archives written by James Lowry and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-02-17 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Displaced archives have long been a problem and their existence continues to trouble archivists, historians and government officials. Displaced Archives brings together leading international experts to comprehensively explore the current state of affairs for the first time. Drawing on case studies from around the world, the authors examine displaced archives as a consequence of conflict and colonialism, analysing their impact on government administration, nation building, human rights and justice. Renewed action is advocated through considerations of the legal approaches to repatriation, the role of the international archival community, ‘shared heritage’ approaches and other solutions. The volume offers new theoretical, technical and political insights and will be essential reading for practitioners, academics and students in the field of archives, cultural property and heritage management, as well as history, politics and international relations.

Book Black Poppies

    Book Details:
  • Author : Stephen Bourne
  • Publisher : The History Press
  • Release : 2014-08-01
  • ISBN : 0752497871
  • Pages : 253 pages

Download or read book Black Poppies written by Stephen Bourne and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1914 Britain was home to at least 10,000 black Britons, many of African and West Indian heritage. Most of them were loyal to the 'mother country' when the First World War broke out. Despite being discouraged from serving in the British Army, men managed to join all branches of the forces, while black communities contributed to the war effort on the home front. By 1918 it is estimated that Britain's black population had trebled to 30,000, as many black servicemen who had fought for Britain decided to make it their home. It was far from a happy ending, however, as they and their families often came under attack from white ex-servicemen and civilians increasingly resentful of their presence. With first-hand accounts and original photographs, Black Poppies is the essential guide to the military and civilian wartime experiences of black men and women, from the trenches to the music halls. It is intended as a companion to Stephen Bourne's previous books published by The History Press: Mother Country: Britain's Black Community on the Home Front 1939–45 and The Motherland Calls: Britain's Black Servicemen and Women 1939–45.

Book Advocating Archives

Download or read book Advocating Archives written by Elsie Freeman Finch and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in Paperback! As institutional budgets become tighter and information sources wider and more complex, archivists, manuscript curators and staff of special collections seek ways to broaden the use of their materials, bringing their services and their story to wider publics. Advocating Archives: An Introduction to Public Relations for Archivists presents practical advice on how to find and relate to these publics: how to better serve the client in person, launch a fund-raising campaign, work with the media, market programs, organize programs around historical events, train and successfully use volunteers, and avoid the most common public relations errors by planning. Written by archivists with previous professional or practical experience in these fields, Advocating Archives offers simply written, practical guidelines for the professional or manager who either develops their own public relations program or works with public relations professional in their institution. Three studies in archival public relations, taken from the daily experience of their writers, provide material for the instructors in archival management courses. Part of a long-term public relations initiative undertaken by the Society of American Archivists, the book aims to make public relations skills an integral part of archival management, and to help the archivist, curator, or special collections professional direct the public's response to their work.
