Book Parle 91 Parallel Architectures and Languages Europe

Download or read book Parle 91 Parallel Architectures and Languages Europe written by Emile H.L. Aarts and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 942 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The innovative progress in the development oflarge-and small-scale parallel computing systems and their increasing availability have caused a sharp rise in interest in the scientific principles that underlie parallel computation and parallel programming. The biannual "Parallel Architectures and Languages Europe" (PARLE) conferences aim at presenting current research material on all aspects of the theory, design, and application of parallel computing systems and parallel processing. At the same time, the goal of the PARLE conferences is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to ex change ideas on recent developments and trends in the field of parallel com puting and parallel programming. The first ~wo conferences, PARLE '87 and PARLE '89, have succeeded in meeting this goal and made PARLE a conference that is recognized worldwide in the field of parallel computation. PARLE '91 again offers a wealth of high-quality research material for the benefit of the scientific community. Compared to its predecessors, the scope of PARLE '91 has been broadened so as to cover the area of parallel algo rithms and complexity, in addition to the central themes of parallel archi tectures and languages. The proceedings of the PARLE '91 conference contain the text of all con tributed papers that were selected for the programme and of the invited papers by leading experts in the field.

Book Distributed Shared Memory

Download or read book Distributed Shared Memory written by Jelica Protic and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1997-08-10 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers present in this text survey both distributed shared memory (DSM) efforts and commercial DSM systems. The book discusses relevant issues that make the concept of DSM one of the most attractive approaches for building large-scale, high-performance multiprocessor systems. The authors provide a general introduction to the DSM field as well as a broad survey of the basic DSM concepts, mechanisms, design issues, and systems. The book concentrates on basic DSM algorithms, their enhancements, and their performance evaluation. In addition, it details implementations that employ DSM solutions at the software and the hardware level. This guide is a research and development reference that provides state-of-the art information that will be useful to architects, designers, and programmers of DSM systems.

Book The Design and Implementation of the FreeBSD Operating System

Download or read book The Design and Implementation of the FreeBSD Operating System written by Marshall Kirk McKusick and published by Pearson Education. This book was released on 2015 with total page 926 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains comprehensive, up-to-date, and authoritative technical information on the internal structure of the FreeBSD open-source operating system. Coverage includes the capabilities of the system; how to effectively and efficiently interface to the system; how to maintain, tune, and configure the operating system; and how to extend and enhance the system. The authors provide a concise overview of FreeBSD's design and implementation. Then, while explaining key design decisions, they detail the concepts, data structures, and algorithms used in implementing the systems facilities. As a result, this book can be used as an operating systems textbook, a practical reference, or an in-depth study of a contemporary, portable, open-source operating system. -- Provided by publisher.

Book Advances In Quantum Flux Parametron Computer Design Studies In Josephson Supercomputers

Download or read book Advances In Quantum Flux Parametron Computer Design Studies In Josephson Supercomputers written by Eiichi Goto and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-06-18 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reports new developments on work in the Quantum Flux Parametron (QFP) project. It makes complete a series on Josephson Supercomputers, which includes four earlier volumes, also published by World Scientific. QFP technology has great potential especially in the design of computer architecture. It is regarded as being able to go beyond the horizon of current technology, and is a leading direction for the advancement of computer technology in the next decade.

Book Distributed Memory Computing

Download or read book Distributed Memory Computing written by Arndt Bode and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume presents the proceedings of a conference covering European activities in the field of distributed memory computing architectures, programming tools, operating systems, programming languages and applications. New architectures discussed within the framework of several ESPRIT projects are covered as well as the application of a number of European and non-European commercial multiprocessor systems. Research on different interconnection topologies including mesh and hypercubes and on virtual shared memory systems is presented. One of the main topics of the book is tools for programming such architectures (debuggers, performance analysers, visualizers, load balancers, mappers) with the goal of enhancing the productivity of the programmer. Alternative execution models such as systolic arrays and dataflow processors are also addressed."--PUBLISHER'S WEBSITE.

Book Architectural and Operating System Support for Virtual Memory

Download or read book Architectural and Operating System Support for Virtual Memory written by Abhishek Bhattacharjee and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides computer engineers, academic researchers, new graduate students, and seasoned practitioners an end-to-end overview of virtual memory. We begin with a recap of foundational concepts and discuss not only state-of-the-art virtual memory hardware and software support available today, but also emerging research trends in this space. The span of topics covers processor microarchitecture, memory systems, operating system design, and memory allocation. We show how efficient virtual memory implementations hinge on careful hardware and software cooperation, and we discuss new research directions aimed at addressing emerging problems in this space. Virtual memory is a classic computer science abstraction and one of the pillars of the computing revolution. It has long enabled hardware flexibility, software portability, and overall better security, to name just a few of its powerful benefits. Nearly all user-level programs today take for granted that they will have been freed from the burden of physical memory management by the hardware, the operating system, device drivers, and system libraries. However, despite its ubiquity in systems ranging from warehouse-scale datacenters to embedded Internet of Things (IoT) devices, the overheads of virtual memory are becoming a critical performance bottleneck today. Virtual memory architectures designed for individual CPUs or even individual cores are in many cases struggling to scale up and scale out to today's systems which now increasingly include exotic hardware accelerators (such as GPUs, FPGAs, or DSPs) and emerging memory technologies (such as non-volatile memory), and which run increasingly intensive workloads (such as virtualized and/or "big data" applications). As such, many of the fundamental abstractions and implementation approaches for virtual memory are being augmented, extended, or entirely rebuilt in order to ensure that virtual memory remains viable and performant in the years to come.
