Architects Data is primarily a handbook of building types rather than of construction techniques and details. The opening pages of basic data on man and his buildings cover critical subjects such as scale, drawing practice, noise, light and space for the same reason. Particular attention has also been paid to the implications of energy conservation, means of escape from fire and the needs of the elderly and the disabled.

Its applicability to the design process is seen in the physical fit, or interface, between the human body and the various components of interior space. The use of anthropometric data, although no substitute for good design or sound professional judgment should be viewed as one of the many tools required in the design process.
