This book was released on 1989 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Test excavations were conducted at two previously recorded prehistoric archeological sites, 32MN228 and 32NN331, located in the White Earth Bay area of Lake Sakakawea in Mountrail County, North Dakota. These sites were evaluate in terms of their eligibility for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. The evaluation of these sites documented continuing impaction/disturbance by both human (stone removal, planting of shelterbelts) and natural (shoreline erosion) forces. No distinct subsurface features were located, but one test unit at site 32MN331 suggested the presence of two cultural occupations. One stone circle and a possible cairn remain at site 32MN228. However, the controlled subsurface testing, surface survey and cutbank inspection indicate that little additional or significant information would be obtained from continued excavation at these sites. Therefore, they are not considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. (AN).

Book Archeological Testing at 32BA414 Lake Ashtabula Barnes County North Dakota

Download or read book Archeological Testing at 32BA414 Lake Ashtabula Barnes County North Dakota written by D. D. Kuehn and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of archeological testing was to evaluate the site in Eggerts Landing campground because of Corps of Engineer plans to modify the spillway and relocate the main public recreational area. The site is identified as late Plains Woodland. Further archaeological work is not recommended as the site does not appear eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Sites. Higher density deposits were likely concentrated west of the present campground in an area now inundated by Lake Ashtabula. In addition, the site did not produce, and is not likely to contain, information which can be considered important from a regional archeological perspective.

Book Archeological Testing of Sites 32CS42 and 32CS44 Cass County North Dakota

Download or read book Archeological Testing of Sites 32CS42 and 32CS44 Cass County North Dakota written by Richard Persinger and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District, plans to construct flood control features neat West Fargo, North Dakota. Two cultural material scatters, 32CS42 and 3CS44, were tested for the identification and protection of significant cultural resources. Field testing of the sites included systematic and controlled surface collection and excavation of auger probes and formal 1mx1m test units. Cultural materials were found to be sparse throughout the sites, and most materials were found on the ground surface. On the basis of the results of excavations, controlled surface collections and earlier surface collections, the sites are tentatively associated with the Late Woodland Period/Culture. Cultural materials within the sites appear to be disturbed by modern agricultural activities, and the sites do not exhibit a likelihood to yield important cultural information. A mitigation plan was not prepared. (FR).
