Based on decades of experience in clinical practice and education, Drs. Araújo and Buschang clearly present treatment protocols for mixed-dentition patients with various malocclusions and other orthodontic problems. Class I, Class II, and Class III malocclusions are covered extensively, along with eruptive deviations and open-bite malocclusions. The literature is comprehensively reviewed to ensure that the reader thoroughly understands the development, phenotypic characteristics and etiology of each type of malocclusion. Taking a problem-oriented approach, the authors provide detailed information for each case, develop comprehensive problem lists, and then provide evidence-based treatment solutions. The clinical focus of the text is ideal suited for private-practice clinician, with numerous references and academic underpinnings to ensure its suitability for orthodontic and pediatric dentistry residents. Book Effect of Double Transpalatal Arch During Extraction Treatment of Class II Malocclusion

Download or read book Effect of Double Transpalatal Arch During Extraction Treatment of Class II Malocclusion written by Pushpak Patel and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction: Anchorage and vertical control are some of the limiting factors in orthodontics, and their control is essential for successful orthodontic treatment. The purpose of this retrospective cephalometric study was to quantify the anchorage and vertical control capabilities of the double TPA by comparing Class II patients treated with full fixed appliances (Roth prescription - GAC 022x028 Slot), extraction of maxillary first bicuspid and utilizing double TPAs on first and second molars to a control sample of matched untreated Class II patients. Methods: Pretreatment and post treatment lateral cephalograms were analyzed of 20 patients (10 male and 10 female) from the same orthodontic practice with skeletal Class II malocclusions, characterized by hyperdivergent growth patterns. All of the 20 patients had maxillary first premolar extractions and double TPAs on the maxillary first and second molars. Space closure was done without headgear, utilizing only double key-hole closing loop archwires. The experimental sample was matched to controls from the Michigan and Bolton Brush growth studies. 12 cephalometric variables were identified to evaluate the effect of double TPAs on various skeletal and dental parameters including anchorage and vertical control. Results: Upper first molar horizontal movement in TPA experimental group: U6-PT Vertical=0.9mm, 6-PTV UMKC=1.2mm and H Perp to mestal U6-0.6mm, moved less forward compared to controls. Upper first molar vertical movement in TPA experimental group: U6-PP measurement in the TPA group was 1.9mm less compared to controls. U6-SN measurement was statistically insignificant between the two groups. Conclusions: Double TPAs were shown to effectively hold the anchorage and control the vertical in the treatment of skeletal Class II hyperdivergent patients.

Download or read book Open Bite Malocclusion written by Guilherme Janson and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open-Bite Malocclusion: Treatment and Stability presents the etiology, treatment, and its stability of anterior open bite malocclusion in the early, mixed, and permanent dentitions. Special emphasis is devoted to orthodontic treatment and its stability in the permanent dentition because this is the time when treatment of open bite presents greater relapse. Appropriate for clinicians, orthodontic residents, and dental students, Open-Bite Malocclusion covers the most simple treatment approaches to the most complex, from orthodontic devices to tooth extraction to surgery. Unique to this book is the discussion of post-treatment stability. Drs. Janson and Valarelli highlight the post-treatment changes and presents strategies to increase treatment stability. This allows the clinician to be able to predict the stability probabilities when treating anterior open bite malocclusions in the permanent dentition either with or without extraction, orthodontic-surgical therapy, or with occlusal adjustment.

Book Twin Block Functional Therapy

Download or read book Twin Block Functional Therapy written by William Clark and published by JP Medical Ltd. This book was released on 2014-09-30 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twin Block appliances are simple bite blocks that are designed for full-time wear. They achieve rapid functional correction of malocclusion (misalignment of upper and lower teeth) by the transmission of favourable occlusal forces to occlusal inclined planes that cover the posterior teeth. The forces of occlusion are used as the functional mechanism to correct the malocclusion (www.twinblocks.com). Beginning with an introduction to orthodontics and twin blocks, the next chapters describe growth studies and diagnosis and treatment planning. Each of the following sections discusses the use of twin blocks for different types of malocclusion. With a focus on the latest developments in functional therapy, the book offers guidance on diagnosis, treatment planning, case selection, appliance design and clinical management. Written by the internationally recognised Orthodontist William Clark from Fife, UK, who also invented Twin Blocks, this comprehensive guide includes nearly 600 clinical photographs and illustrations.
