La mente es enormemente creativa para enfrentar los desafíos de la vida cotidiana y los problemas del mundo que habitamos. ENGLISH DESCRIPTION One of the 20th century’s greatest spiritual teachers will show you how to quiet your constant, worrying thoughts in Learning to Silence the Mind: Wellness Through Meditation. The mind, says Osho, has the potential to be enormously creative in dealing with the challenges of everyday life, and the problems of the world in which we live. The difficulty, however, is that instead of using the mind as a helpful servant we have largely allowed it to become the master of our lives. Its ambitions, belief systems, and interpretations rule our days and our nights―bringing us into conflict with minds that are different from ours, keeping us awake at night rehashing those conflicts or planning the conflicts of tomorrow, and disturbing our sleep and our dreams. If only there was a way to switch it off and give it a rest! Finding the switch that can silence the mind―not by force or performing some exotic ritual, but through understanding, watchfulness, and a healthy sense of humor―is meditation. A sharper, more relaxed and creative mind―one that can function at the peak of its unique intelligence―is the potential.

Book excerpt: For more than 25 years, Dr. Bertrand Martin has been teaching meditation for combating stress and achieving overall better quality of life. In his new book, he talks about his techniques and how to use them to achieve "Mental Silence." "Today's society suffers from stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, negativity and much more, leading to unhappiness, diseases, consumption of medicaments and drugs," Dr Martin says. "Regular practice of Mental Silence Meditation can prevent and cure many ailments. It also treads the path of full realization of one's potential." Although stress is a normal part of life, too much of it can have debilitating consequences. Dr Martin, a psychiatrist and ayurvedic physician, has been teaching meditation to his patients since 1990. This has helped about 95 percent of his patients experience mental silence, a feeling he describes as "a totally peacefully state of consciousness in which thinking process stops and a deep physical and mental relaxation is experienced." He shares his techniques for achieving mental silence in his eponymous book. It is specially written for people living busy, fast-paced lives who want to meditate efficiently and achieve fast results. The steps shared are practical, measurable, clearly explained, and easy to practice. Dr. Bertrand Piccard, Psychiatrist and explorer recommends the method: "If you have picked up this book, it probably means that the search for pioneering solutions to further improve your quality of life is a matter that excites your curiosity. Not all of us can be discoverers of the universe, but we can go a long way just by exploring our own selves. Our mind is the richest, most valuable and most efficient resource that is permanently available to each of us. Dr Martin is proposing a conscious and serene method to shape up our mental, spiritual and physical capacities. The method is simple, fast and effective. Let yourself go and you may land way beyond your usual certainties.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focused on developing the conceptual, theoretical, and methodological knowledge needed to engage in rigorous and valid research, this introductory text provides practical explanations, exercises, and advice for how to conduct qualitative research—from design through implementation, analysis, and writing up research. Qualitative Research presents the field in a unique and meaningful way, and helps readers understand what authors Sharon M. Ravitch and Nicole Mittenfelner Carl call “criticality” in qualitative research by communicating its foundations and processes with clarity and simplicity while still capturing complexity. Packed with real-life examples of questions, issues, and situations that stem from the authors’ and their students’ research, the book humanizes the qualitative research endeavor, illustrates the types of scenarios that arise, and emphasizes the importance of actively considering paradigmatic values throughout every stage of the research process. In every chapter, the authors illustrate the qualitative research process as decidedly ideological, political, and subjective using themes of criticality, reflexivity, collaboration, and rigor.

Book excerpt: Carolyn Ellis is the leading writer in the move toward personal, autobiographical writing as a strategy for academic research. In addition to her landmark books Final Negotiations and The Ethnographic I, she has authored numerous stories that demonstrate the emotional power and academic value of autoethnography. This volume collects a dozen of Ellis’s stories—about the loss of her husband, brother and mother; of growing up in small town Virginia; about the work of the ethnographer; about emotionally charged life issues such as abortion, caregiving, and love. Atop these captivating stories, she adds the component of meta-autoethography—a layering of new interpretations, reflections, and vignettes to her older work. An important new work for qualitative researchers and a student-friendly text for courses.

Book Critical Qualitative Research in Social Education

Download or read book Critical Qualitative Research in Social Education written by Cameron White and published by IAP. This book was released on 2015-03-01 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical qualitative research informs social education through a lens that ensures the investigation of issues in education tied to power and privilege, ultimately leading to advocacy and activism. The concept of critical is increasingly challenged in this age of neoliberal reform; nevertheless, critical implies questioning, investigating and challenging in terms of equity and social justice, leading to critical consciousness (Freire, 1970). While we resist defining social education, as hopefully these ideas / concepts are fluid, the idea stems from a continual analysis and synthesis of critical theory/ critical pedagogy, media and cultural studies, social reconstruction / social justice, and social studies education framed by culturally responsive pedagogy. A social education take on critical qualitative research thus suggests multiple truths and perspectives and focuses on questions rather than answers. While many have written on qualitative educational research and some have attempted to integrate critical pedagogy and qualitative research, few have explored the specific idea of social education and critical qualitative research. A major issue is that social education claims that there are no set procedures, scripted approaches, or narrow definitions as to the possibilities of research endeavors. Social education researchers make the process and investigation their own and adapt questions, procedures, methods, and strategies throughout the experience. This reflects an ever changing criticality in the bricolage of the research (Steinberg, 2011). Critical qualitative research and social education are vital for the world of the 21st century. The onslaught of neoliberalism, corporatization, standardization, testing, and the continuing attack on public schools and educators necessitate critical approaches to teaching and learning along with critical qualitative research in social education. Ongoing issues with equity and social justice tied to race, ethnicity, class, orientation, age, and ability linking to schooling, education, teaching and learning must be addressed. The struggle between unbridled capitalism and democracy warrant these investigations in the 21st century, hopefully leading to advocacy and activism.

Book In the Spirit of Ubuntu

Download or read book In the Spirit of Ubuntu written by Diane M. Caracciolo and published by Sense Pub. This book was released on 2009 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is not, 'I think therefore I am.' It says rather: 'I am human because I belong. I participate, I share.' A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed, or treated as if they were less than who they are. (Desmond Tutu, 1999, No Future without Forgiveness, p.31) In the Spirit of Ubuntu: Stories of Teaching and Research offers a collection of stories to encourage teachers and researchers to embrace the spirit of Ubuntu, which can guide our work. These authors seek to bridge their academic work with community engagement, well-being and transformation. Many of the book's contributors demonstrate a research commitment to working collaboratively with underrepresented communities, who are viewed not as "objects" to be studied or rescued, but as partners in a shared project. Others demonstrate how self-reflection informs and transforms their teaching practice. Overall the writers show through their stories, how an ethic of care, respect and reciprocity applies to teachers as well as researchers and works toward the decolonization and humanization of schooling and the academy. From the Foreword by Ngugi wa Thiong'o: The stories here are united in a common quest for Ubuntu but in the process they become an important contribution to that common quest...They should be read as an expression of the common quest for a more humane world. The cover photograph was taken by Esther Kogan at the Caroline Wambui Mungai Home, Wangige, Kenya.
