Book excerpt: This work deals with the many variations of the Stoneileierstrass Theorem for vector-valued functions and some of its applications. The book is largely self-contained. The amount of Functional Analysis required is minimal, except for Chapter 8. The book can be used by graduate students who have taken the usual first-year real and complex analysis courses.

Book Approximation Properties of Vector Valued Functions

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set theory, Topology, TheoremsWeierstrass theorem, Modules(Mathematics)Let M be a closed C(X) submodule of the space C(X:E) of all bounded continuous functions on the compact space X with values in the normed linear space E. Then, it is shown that the linear functionals phi on C(X:E) that are extreme in the set of those which annihilate M and have norm at most one are exactly those of the form phi(g) = L(g(x sub 0)), where x sub 0 is a point of X and L is an extreme point of the set of functionals of norm one on E that annihilate the subspace M(x sub 0)=(all f(x sub 0) for f epsilon M). The proof uses various forms of the Weierstrass approximation theorem for modules. (Author).

Book Vector Valued Functions and their Applications

Download or read book Vector Valued Functions and their Applications written by Chuang-Gan Hu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first to be devoted to the theory of vector-valued functions with one variable. This theory is one of the fundamental tools employed in modern physics, the spectral theory of operators, approximation of analytic operators, analytic mappings between vectors, and vector-valued functions of several variables. The book contains three chapters devoted to the theory of normal functions, Hp-space, and vector-valued functions and their applications. Among the topics dealt with are the properties of complex functions in a complex plane and infinite-dimensional spaces, and the solution of vector-valued integral equations and boundary value problems by complex analysis and functional analysis, which involve methods which can be applied to problems in operations research and control theory. Much original research is included. This volume will be of interest to those whose work involves complex analysis and control theory, and can be recommended as a graduate text in these areas.

Book Approximation Of Set valued Functions Adaptation Of Classical Approximation Operators

Download or read book Approximation Of Set valued Functions Adaptation Of Classical Approximation Operators written by Nira Dyn and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is aimed at the approximation of set-valued functions with compact sets in an Euclidean space as values. The interest in set-valued functions is rather new. Such functions arise in various modern areas such as control theory, dynamical systems and optimization. The authors' motivation also comes from the newer field of geometric modeling, in particular from the problem of reconstruction of 3D objects from 2D cross-sections. This is reflected in the focus of this book, which is the approximation of set-valued functions with general (not necessarily convex) sets as values, while previous results on this topic are mainly confined to the convex case. The approach taken in this book is to adapt classical approximation operators and to provide error estimates in terms of the regularity properties of the approximated set-valued functions. Specialized results are given for functions with 1D sets as values.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this survey the authors endeavor to give a comprehensive examination of the theory of measures having values in Banach spaces. The interplay between topological and geometric properties of Banach spaces and the properties of measures having values in Banach spaces is the unifying theme. The first chapter deals with countably additive vector measures finitely additive vector measures, the Orlicz-Pettis theorem and its relatives. Chapter II concentrates on measurable vector valued functions and the Bochner integral. Chapter III begins the study of the interplay among the Radon-Nikodym theorem for vector measures, operators on $L_1$ and topological properties of Banach spaces. A variety of applications is given in the next chapter. Chapter V deals with martingales of Bochner integrable functions and their relation to dentable subsets of Banach spaces. Chapter VI is devoted to a measure-theoretic study of weakly compact absolutely summing and nuclear operators on spaces of continuous functions. In Chapter VII a detailed study of the geometry of Banach spaces with the Radon-Nikodym property is given. The next chapter deals with the use of Radon-Nikodym theorems in the study of tensor products of Banach spaces. The last chapter concludes the survey with a discussion of the Liapounoff convexity theorem and other geometric properties of the range of a vector measure. Accompanying each chapter is an extensive survey of the literature and open problems.

Book Handbook of Measure Theory

Download or read book Handbook of Measure Theory written by E. Pap and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-10-31 with total page 1633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main goal of this Handbook isto survey measure theory with its many different branches and itsrelations with other areas of mathematics. Mostly aggregating many classical branches of measure theory the aim of the Handbook is also to cover new fields, approaches and applications whichsupport the idea of "measure" in a wider sense, e.g. the ninth part of the Handbook. Although chapters are written of surveys in the variousareas they contain many special topics and challengingproblems valuable for experts and rich sources of inspiration.Mathematicians from other areas as well as physicists, computerscientists, engineers and econometrists will find useful results andpowerful methods for their research. The reader may find in theHandbook many close relations to other mathematical areas: realanalysis, probability theory, statistics, ergodic theory, functional analysis, potential theory, topology, set theory, geometry, differential equations, optimization, variationalanalysis, decision making and others. The Handbook is a richsource of relevant references to articles, books and lecturenotes and it contains for the reader's convenience an extensivesubject and author index.

Book Multivariate Approximation Theory

Download or read book Multivariate Approximation Theory written by E. W. Cheney and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1986-01-01 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The approximation of functions of several variables continues to be a difficult problem in scientific computing because many of the algorithms required for such problems have yet to be written. This monograph is written for a broad audience of computational mathematicians and statisticians concerned with the development of algorithms or the derivation of approximations from linear projections, of which the interpolating operators are an important example. As an aid to both researchers and students, a bibliography of more than 200 titles is included.
