Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we near the end of our earthly sojourns, often we look back on our journeys and reflect on the many peaks and valleys along the way. Moses led a stubborn people for forty years to bring them from Egypt to the Promised Land, but his mistake in not following God’s command prevented him from entering. Yet he was given permission to climb Mount Nebo and see the Promised Land before he died. In Approaching Nebo’s Peak, author Eulie R. Brannan reflects on his ninety year journey as he, too, nears his own Nebo’s peak, imagining Moses’s thoughts and intertwining them with his own. Dr. Brannan has spent a lifetime studying the scriptures, which has enabled him to draw on Bible characters and principles and share his insights with you; by noting how the lower peaks and valleys can help us make our last great climb to the top, he hopes that his spiritual autobiography will help you in your climb. Like Moses, you may have spent a lifetime seeking the Promised Land. And as you climb to Nebo’s peak and see what the Lord has given, you will finally experience the excitement of a permanent homecoming.

Other recent additions to Colorado's protected lands include the Castle Peak Wilderness Study Area, Bull Gulch Wilderness Study Area, San Luis Hills Wilderness Study Area, and Demaree Canyon Wilderness Area. Colorado is one of the nation's primary adventure-travel destinations, and both visitors and locals will find this book the most all-inclusive reference available to the state's wildness areas. At a young age, he learned he could vicariously experience adventures and travel to many faraway places he physically couldn’t reach. Now, at age ninety, he continues to read. Years ago, Brannan began collecting quotations from his readings. He calls them golden nuggets, and they have originated from many mines. In Nuggets from Many Mines, he shares a compilation of his favorites. These range from Tod Beamer’s “Are you guys ready? OK let’s roll,” to a leper’s cry, “Will I never be free?” And Alexander the Great’s, “I have my hopes.” Culled from a variety of sources, most especially the Bible, Nuggets from Many Mines, seeks to inspire, provide comfort, and help those who are experiencing problems and challenges in their lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Cold War, the Soviet Union invested heavily in its air defense systems. As a result, Russia now possesses the most advanced air and ballistic missile defense systems in the world. Russian air defense systems are also highly proliferated and are currently in use by many countries. Since the end of the Cold War and the breakup of the USSR, it has become increasingly possible to study Russian air defense, but Russia is by no means an open book on defense-related subjects. Some information circulates in the media, but for the time being, air defense systems are still subject to a degree of speculation. Air and ballistic missile defense programs in the Soviet Union and Russia have a very long history. Soviet engineers started working on both programs in the 1950s, and by 1960 they had built the first successful systems able to intercept enemy aircraft and intermediate-range ballistic missiles. Current Russian air defense doctrine follows a layered multi-level approach providing in depth coverage from any aerial or ballistic missile attack. This layered system allows Russian air defense forces to create zones that can be very difficult to penetrate. The highest level of these defensive networks uses long-range systems providing air defense umbrellas potentially up to 500+ km. The second level includes medium-range systems like the S-350 and Buk variants (infamous for downing Malaysian Airline’s flight MH17 over the Ukraine in 2014). This medium-range level is intended to provide air defense zones which are also covered under the long-range systems but are more cost-effective in this envelope. The third level presents mobile short-range systems which are intended to provide extra protection for the long-range systems as well as stationary objects. These systems, along with highly mobile systems like the Buk are often also attached to ground forces formations such as armored and mechanized divisions and brigades. What are the abilities of these systems against NATO? President Putin emphasized the need to strengthen the country’s air defenses amid NATO’s military activities near Russia’s borders. One of the key new concept developments is counter-stealth detection and interception. The other is to counter future hypersonic missile threats. It is, as the author reveals, Russia that is leading the way in these races.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Todd steams into Memphis just as the blues begin oozing up out of the juke joints into the white establishments lining Beale Street. During the next week he seeks out the latest sounds in the honky-tonks and gentlemen's clubs. But after hearing the ragged, personal lyrics of a lone guitarist sitting in a dimly lit corner of a squalid speakeasy, Todd knows now how he wants to spend the rest of his life--writing songs, riding the circuit, and playing the blues. Sad to say, Todd soon learns "life has a way of tearing up track and bending the rails." This fourth book in the six-part Your Winding Daybreak Ways series begins where author Gary Bargatze's third novel, Hurricane Creek, leaves off. It follows this frustrated bluesman's remarkable journey of survival and resourcefulness, as he becomes a key player in the birth of jazz, the mutual fund industry, broadcast evangelism, and global philanthropy.
