Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ”[A] primer on the threat to democracy posed by—and I can’t believe I’m saying this—the current president of the United States.” —David Litt, New York Times bestselling author Donald Trump isn’t a despot. But he is increasingly acting like The Despot’s Apprentice, an understudy in authoritarian tactics that threaten to erode American democracy, including: Attacking the press Threatening rule of law by firing those who investigate his alleged wrongdoings Using nepotism to staff the White House and countless other techniques Donald Trump is borrowing tactics from the world’s dictators and despots. Trump’s fascination with the military, his obsession with his own cult of personality, and his deliberate campaign to blur the line between fact and falsehood are nothing new to the world of despots. But they are new to the United States. With each authoritarian tactic or tweet, Trump poses a unique threat to democratic government in the world’s most powerful democracy. At the same time, Trump’s apprenticeship has serious consequences beyond the United States. His bizarre adoration and idolization of despotic strongmen—from Russia’s Putin, to Turkey’s Erdogan, or to the Philippines’ Duterte—has transformed American foreign policy into a powerful cheerleader for some of the world’s worst regimes. In The Despot’s Apprentice, an ex-US campaign advisor who has sat with the world’s dictators explains Donald Trump’s increasingly authoritarian tactics and how Trump uniquely threatens American democracy... and how to save it from him.

Book Jobs Apprentice 101

Download or read book Jobs Apprentice 101 written by Arthur W. Hoffmann Ed D. P. E. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Jobs - An American Solution" is a specific "jobs creation" idea that would be initiated by businesses and individual entrepreneurs and based on an "apprenticeship approach". It is a self-help program that is intended to expedite the creation of good-paying skilled and professional jobs. It is not a government regulated apprenticeship similar to those that are common in European or Asian countries. This "Apprentice 101" program is a voluntary, unstructured "jobs initiative" by private individuals, small or large businesses, trade organizations, unions, municipalities, etc. The basic motivation for a business or entrepreneur is a generous tax credit for every apprentice candidate they hire, sponsor and train. This is not a government hand-out but an investment in America and its citizens that promises to be extraordinary. Researchers at Columbia University and the City University of New York, found that for "each unemployed youth - someone between the ages of 16 and 24 who is in neither work or school - costs taxpayers nearly $ 14,000 dollars per year in direct costs for things like medical bills and government aid, while ultimately creating a "social burden" of more than $37,000 dollars annually (when accounting for the costs of crime and lost tax revenue)". - Jobs are the life blood of our economy. They create wealth in exchange for services rendered that increase and improve our way of life. - Current unemployment and under-employment is especially high. The many jobless people in America are losing hope of an economic recovery. - Our politicians, Republicans and Democrats, respond with contrasting solutions that focus only on taxes and spending. - Our large cities and communities are especially in need of real good-jobs if we are to succeed in fighting poverty. - We need to encourage our more fortunate citizens to provide job opportunities for the less-fortunate. Our young people need mentors and assurance of employment for high school graduates.

Book The Reformed Apprentice A Workbook on Reformed Theology

Download or read book The Reformed Apprentice A Workbook on Reformed Theology written by C. Matthew McMahon and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2013-09-20 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is nothing like this interactive workbook anywhere in the Reformed community. It is a unique workbook designed to bring Reformed Theology to students of the bible in its various facets. In old England, an apprentice is a novice who engaged in a covenant with a tradesman to learn a particular trade. A workbook of this kind was created to engage the student of scripture to be apprenticed under the teachers of Reformed Theology, thus, a Reformed Apprentice. The purpose of the workbook is to come into a deeper knowledge and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ as he has revealed himself to the church in his Word and by his Spirit through the centuries in Reformed Theology. The workbook covers logic, hermeneutics, theology, creeds and confessions, covenant theology, worship, the sovereignty of God, the solas of the reformation, the doctrines of grace, church government, and much, much more. It extensively quotes the early church fathers, the Reformers, the Puritans, and Reformed theologians from various ages in order to aid the Reformed Apprentice in coming to a knowledge of what truly constitutes Reformed Theology and the Reformed Faith. This workbook is not to be completed in a short timeframe, nor is it governed by a specific amount of time. The Reformed Apprentice has as much time to complete each section at their own pace as they need in order to walk more closely with Jesus Christ.

Book The Chinese Particle Le

Download or read book The Chinese Particle Le written by M.E. van den Berg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-09-27 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever since the start of Chinese linguistic studies, the description of the Chinese particle LE has remained elusive. The classification has evolved from a listing of sentences and the discussion of contrastive pairs to a more context and discourse-oriented analysis. The development in recent years of inferential models and situation semantics has opened the way for a renewed study of the use of the Chinese particle LE. This book discusses the Chinese data from a 'mental space' perspective and finally reveals the role so-called Chinese 'sentence LE' plays in the construction and maintenance of discourse.

Book Learning on the Shop Floor

Download or read book Learning on the Shop Floor written by Bert De Munck and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2007-12-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apprenticeship or vocational training is a subject of lively debate. Economic historians tend to see apprenticeship as a purely economic phenomenon, as an ‘incomplete contract’ in need of legal and institutional enforcement mechanisms. The contributors to this volume have adopted a broader perspective. They regard learning on the shop floor as a complex social and cultural process, to be situated in an ever-changing historical context. The results are surprising. The authors convincingly show that research on apprenticeship and learning on the shop floor is intimately associated with migration patterns, family economy and household strategies, gender perspectives, urban identities and general educational and pedagogical contexts.
