Download or read book Wetlands Detection Methods Investigation written by K. H. Lee and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this investigation was to research and document the application of remote sensing technology to wetland detection and mapping. Various remote sensing sensors and platforms are evaluated (1) for suitability to monitor specific wetlands systems; (2) for their effectiveness in detailing the extent of wetlands; (3) for their capability to monitor changes; and (4) for the resulting relative cost-benefits of implementing and updating wetlands databases. The environment to be monitored consists of physiographic and ecological wetland resources affected directly or indirectly by anthropogenic activity. Air craft and satellite remote sensing can be used to record and assess the condition of these resources. Monitoring of environmental conditions is based on the observation and interpretation of certain landscape features. Although some forms of monitoring are continuous, resource monitoring from aircraft and satellite platforms is periodic in nature, with change being documented through a series of observations over a given span of time. This report summarizes the findings of a bibliographic search on the methods used to inventory and/or detect changes in wetland environments. The bibliography contains numerous citations and is not intended to be all-inclusive. Books, major journals, and symposium proceedings were examined. The findings documented will provide the potential user with a basic understanding of remote sensing technology as it is applied to wetland monitoring and trend analysis.
Download or read book Measuring and Monitoring Plant Populations written by Caryl Elzinga and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-01-02 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This technical reference applies to monitoring situations involving a single plant species, such as an indicator species, key species, or weed. It was originally developed for monitoring special status plants, which have some recognized status at the Federal, State, or agency level because of their rarity or vulnerability. Most examples and discussions in this technical reference focus on these special status species, but the methods described are also applicable to any single-species monitoring and even some community monitoring situations. We thus hope wildlife biologists, range conservationists, botanists, and ecologists will all find this technical reference helpful.
Download or read book Conserving Bogs written by Rob E. Stoneman and published by Stationery Office Books (TSO). This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bogs are fascinating landscapes for ecologists, climatologists, archaeologists, environmental historians and water managers. But many bogs have been damaged, and legislative protection - as 29 case studies demonstrate - is not enough to conserve the rest.

Download or read book Sampling Vegetation Attributes written by U. S Department U.S Department of Agriculture and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-01-03 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Identifying the appropriate sampling technique first requires the identification of the proper vegetation characteristic or attribute to measure. To do this the examiner must consider objectives, life form (grass, forb, shrub, or tree), distribution patterns of individuals of a species, distribution patterns between species (community mosaic pattern), efficiency of data collection from an economic standpoint, and accuracy and precision of the data.
Download or read book Vegetation Monitoring written by Caryl L. Elzinga and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1998-05 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This annotated bibliography documents literature addressing the design and implementation of vegetation monitoring. It provides resources managers, ecologists, and scientists access to the great volume of literature addressing many aspects of vegetation monitoring: planning and objective setting, choosing vegetation attributes to measure, sampling design, sampling methods, statistical and graphical analysis, and communication of results. Over half of the 1400 references have been annotated. Keywords pertaining to the type of monitoring or method are included with each bibliographic entry. Keyword index.
Download or read book Computational Photography written by Ramesh Raskar and published by A K Peters/CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-05-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Photography combines plentiful computing, digital sensors, modern optics, actuators, probes, and smart lights to escape the limitations of traditional film cameras and enables novel imaging applications. This book provides a practical guide to topics in image capture and manipulation methods for generating compelling pictures for graphics, special effects, scene comprehension, and art. The computational techniques discussed cover topics in exploiting new ideas in manipulating optics, illumination, and sensors at time of capture. In addition, the authors describe sophisticated reconstruction procedures from direct and indirect pixel measurements that go well beyond the traditional digital darkroom experience.
