Book excerpt: Ce travail porte sur l'utilisation du traitement du signal lors du contrôle non destructif par ultrasons des matériaux composites (fibre de verre E et résine époxy). Dans cette étude, il a fallu tenir compte des dispositions industrielles, à savoir la conception et la fabrication des éprouvettes ainsi que du mode d'acquisition des données. Les trois principales familles de défauts retenues sont ; le délaminage, une porosité diffuse et un excès de fibre de verre. Les deux premiers défauts ont été isolés en étudiant les paramètres liés à l'atténuation des ondes ultrasonores dans le matériau. La recherche de paramètres discriminants est faite sans que l'on ne fasse appel aux divers paramètres physiques (épaisseur, vitesse et pourcentage de fibres de verre). Le dernier défaut étudié, excès de fibre de verre, doit être traité seulement après que l'on ait isolé les deux autres familles de défaut. Ce problème consiste à déterminer le pourcentage de fibres de verre correspondant à l'endroit d'acquisition d'un signal ultrasonore. Ce pourcentage peut varier énormément selon l'endroit où l'on se situe sur l'éprouvette. Il s'est alors avéré nécessaire de procéder au contrôle destructif des éprouvettes afin de corréler les paramètres physiques avec les paramètres extraits des représentations temporelles et fréquentielles des signaux ultrasonores. Cette étude a montré qu'il est pratiquement impossible de noter la moindre évolution du taux de fibres de verre à partir des signaux ultrasonores si l'on ne possède pas l'épaisseur exacte à l'endroit d'acquisition d'un signal. A cette fin, une méthode a été développée. Elle permet à partir de plusieurs manipulations par ultrasons, faites avec deux capteurs " semblables ", d'estimer " ponctuellement ", l'épaisseur en n'importe quel point de l'éprouvette.

Parallel to the development of the phenomenon, an important body of experiential texts has revealed its presence in various parts of the world. While the medical discourse is still struggling with this conundrum, literature gives way to different interpretations by revealing the interconnectedness between writing and starving. Both signifying practices are experiences of the limit where fluxes of particles - food, words - are in constant interaction. Unlike most contemporary readings of anorexia, this book offers an original insight into the creative process inherent to the pathology, which the author calls Writing Size Zero. Body of writing and writing of the body, as found in western and post-colonial texts, delineate an in-between space producing new epistemologies. Through a close reading of the semiotics of self-starvation, the author debunks the myth of anorexia as a mental disease of the West and insists on the variety of expressions and figurations inherent to the pathology. By providing a meaning to self-starvation, writing gives anorexia its ethics.
