Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers contained in this book were presented at a NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) held at Cape Sounion, Athens, Greece, 19-24 May, 1991. The twenty-eight more comprehensive papers represent the key subjects of the ARW covered by invited speakers. The thirty-four short papers pre sented in a research format are contributions of those invited to participate in the ARW. There was a total of 70 participants from 21 countries. The objectives of the ARW were as follows: to review current knowledge of biological control of plant diseases and plant parasitic nematodes, with emphasis on mechanisms at the molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecosystem level; to examine and expand on current concepts and synthesize new concepts; to identify and prioritize limitations in the use of biological control for plant diseases and nematodes and the scientific research needed to overcome these limitations; and to develop strategies for biological control through management of resident agents or introduction of natural or modified agents.

Download or read book Dictionnaire International de Froid written by International Institute of Refrigeration and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The English-French volume of the International Dictionary of Refrigeration contains approximately 4400 terms with their definitions in the 2 official languages of the International Institute of Refrigeration, English and French. Approximately 200 experts, who are members of the IIR network and are from about 30 countries on all the continents, took part in the development of the Dictionary. The terms are allocated to 11 chapters: Fundamentals - Refrigeration and Production - Refrigerating Equipment - Cooling Methods - Storage, Transport, Distribution - Refrigeration of Perishable Products - Air Conditioning - Heat Pumps - Cryology - Other Applications of Refrigeration - Refrigeration and the Environment. The terms are classified in alphabetical order within 110 sections. An alphabetical index in English and another one in French make it easy to perform searches for terms and their synonyms. 9 volumes will be published containing the terms alone in 9 languages, with the corrresponding English and French equivalents: Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, German, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Russian and Spanish.(Now published) Le volume anglais-francais du Dictionnaire International du Froid comporte environ 4400 termes avec leurs definitions dans les deux langues officielles de l'Institut International du Froid (IIF).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: G.HAINNAUX Departement Milieu et Activites Agricoles, Centre ORSTOM, 911 Avenue d' Agropolis, B.P. 5045, 34032 Montpellier Cedex , France. Solid state fermentation, popularly abbreviated as SSF, is currently investigated by many groups throughout the world. The study of this technique was largely neglected in the past in European and Western countries and there is now a high demand for SSF, meaning in food, environment, agricultural, phannaceutical and many other biotechnological applications. It gives me satisfaction to note that the importance of this technique was realised at my department way back in 1975 since then, our team has put concentrated efforts on developing this technique. xvii Foreword Advances in Solid State Fermentation Foreword M. PUYGRENIER Agropolis Valorisation, Avenue d' Agropolis, 34394 Montpellier Cedex 5, France. On the name of the Scientific Community, I would like to express the wish that this International Symposium on SSF should be successful. Solid State Fermentation is part of biotechnology research. It consists on seeding solid culture medium with bacteria or fungi (filamentous or higher) and on producing, in this medium (solid components and exudates) metabolites and high value products. In fact, this process is very old. In older industries such the food and agricultural, this technique has been extensively used. An example of this is the production of pork sausages and Roquefort cheese. Pharmaceutical industry could make extensive use of SSF in the production of secondary metabolites of many kinds and development in this direction is soon expected.

This book was released on 2010-12-16 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Special Offer: KWR Drinking Water Treatment Set - Buy all five books together and save a total £119! Ever since the recognition of the important role of water in the transmission of pathogenic micro-organisms in the 19th century, microbiological safety of drinking water has been a major research issue for microbiologists in the drinking water industry. The main objective of this book is to develop a general strategy to assess elimination capacity of water treatment processes for pathogens. It investigates: The potential use of faecal indicators Coli44, (including E. coli) and SSRC, (including C. perfringens) as process indicators to assess pathogen elimination in full-scale water treatment plants. The value of comparative challenge tests with pre-cultured organisms for the assessment of elimination capacity of full-scale processes, to study the effect of process conditions and to validate the use of process indicators. The use of literature data to assess elimination capacity of water treatment processes for pathogens and the effect of process conditions on this.
