Download or read book Applications and Innovations in Expert Systems VI written by Robert W. Milne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R. MILNE Intelligent Applications Ltd The papers in this volume are the Application Papers presented at ES98, the Eighteenth International Conference of the British Computer Society's Specialist Group on Expert Systems. This year has been yet another "applications" success for the conference with this volume containing seventeen papers describing either deployed applications or emerging applications. All these documented case studies provide clear evidence of the success of AI technology in solving real business problems. Six of these papers were nominated for the Best Application Award during the review process. These nominations were then reviewed by the members of the Programme Committee to select the winning paper. The papers in the volume were subject to refereeing by at least two referees. All papers which were controversial for some reason were discussed in depth by the Application Programme Committee. Ten referees from the industrial and commercial sector and nine referees from the academic sector assisted me in reviewing the papers. The review form asked the referee to score the papers according to a number of dimensions, to rate it overall, and to offer critical comments to me, and to the authors. It also asks the referee to score their expertise in the area of each paper they review. Only reviews from 'expert' referees are used.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ann Macintosh Napier University, UK The papers in this volume are the refereed application papers presented at ES2001, the Twenty-fIrst SGES International Conference on Knowledge Based Systems and Applied ArtifIcial Intelligence, held in Cambridge in December 200 I. The scope of the application papers has expanded over recent years to cover not just innovative applications using traditional knowledge based systems, but also to include applications demonstrating the whole range of AI technologies. These papers continue to illustrate the maturity of AI as a commercially viable technology to solve real world problems. The papers were subject to refereeing by at least two expert referees. All papers that were in any way controversial were discussed in depth by the Application Programme Committee. For the ES2001 Application Stream, a paper is acceptable even if it describes a system that has not yet been installed, provided the application is original and the paper discusses the kind of things that would help others needing to solve a similar problem. Papers have been selected to highlight critical areas of success - and failure - and to present the benefIts and lessons learnt to other developers. This volume contains sixteen papers describing deployed or emerging applications in a range of diverse areas: business and commerce, engineering, manufacturing, knowledge and information management, and music.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Is Expert System In the field of artificial intelligence, an expert system is a type of computer program that simulates the abilities of a human expert to make judgment calls. Instead of using typical procedural code, expert systems reason through bodies of knowledge, which are primarily represented as if-then rules. This is in contrast to traditional computer programs, which tackle complicated issues by writing procedural code. In the 1970s, the first expert systems were developed, and later in the 1980s, their use became more widespread. Expert systems were one of the earliest forms of artificial intelligence (AI) software that was actually successful. An expert system can be broken down into its two component subsystems, which are the knowledge base and the inference engine. The knowledge base is a collection of facts and guidelines. The inference engine takes the rules and applies them to the known data in order to derive new information. The capabilities of explanation and debugging are also sometimes included in inference engines. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Expert system Chapter 2: Learning classifier system Chapter 3: AI winter Chapter 4: Constraint logic programming Chapter 5: Constraint satisfaction Chapter 6: CLIPS Chapter 7: Mycin Chapter 8: Knowledge engineering Chapter 9: Rule-based machine learning Chapter 10: CADUCEUS (expert system) (II) Answering the public top questions about expert system. Book Innovations in Applied Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book Innovations in Applied Artificial Intelligence written by Floriana Esposito and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-06-28 with total page 878 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Intelligent systems are those which produce intelligent o?springs.” AI researchers have been focusing on developing and employing strong methods that are capable of solving complex real-life problems. The 18th International Conference on Industrial & Engineering Applications of Arti?cial Intelligence & Expert Systems (IEA/AIE 2005) held in Bari, Italy presented such work performed by many scientists worldwide. The Program Committee selected long papers from contributions presenting more complete work and posters from those reporting ongoing research. The Committee enforced the rule that only original and unpublished work could be considered for inclusion in these proceedings. The Program Committee selected 116 contributions from the 271 subm- ted papers which cover the following topics: arti?cial systems, search engines, intelligent interfaces, knowledge discovery, knowledge-based technologies, na- ral language processing, machine learning applications, reasoning technologies, uncertainty management, applied data mining, and technologies for knowledge management. The contributions oriented to the technological aspects of AI and the quality of the papers are witness to a research activity clearly aimed at consolidating the theoretical results that have already been achieved. The c- ference program also included two invited lectures, by Katharina Morik and Roberto Pieraccini. Manypeoplecontributedindi?erentwaystothesuccessoftheconferenceand to this volume. The authors who continue to show their enthusiastic interest in applied intelligence research are a very important part of our success. We highly appreciate the contribution of the members of the Program Committee, as well as others who reviewed all the submitted papers with e?ciency and dedication.
