Book Springback Assessment and Compensation of Tailor Welded Blanks

Download or read book Springback Assessment and Compensation of Tailor Welded Blanks written by Ab Abdullah and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-12-27 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on techniques developed to evaluate the forming behaviour of tailor welded blanks (TWBs) in sheet metal manufacturing, this edited collection details compensation methods suited to mitigating the effects of springback. Making use of case studies and in-depth accounts of industry experience, this book gives a comprehensive overview of springback and provides essential solutions necessary to modern-day automotive engineers. Sheet metal forming is a major process within the automotive industry, with advancement of the technology including utilization of non-uniform sheet metal in order to produce light or strengthened body structures. This is critical in the reduction of vehicle weight in order to match increased consumer demand for better driving performance and improved fuel efficiency. Additionally, increasingly stringent international regulations regarding exhaust emissions require manufacturers to seek to lighten vehicles as much as possible. To aid engineers in optimizing lightweight designs, this comprehensive book covers topics by a variety of industry experts, including compensation by annealing, low-power welding, punch profile radius and tool-integrated springback measuring systems. It ends by looking at the future trends within the industry and the potential for further innovation within the field. This work will benefit car manufacturers and stamping plants that face springback issues within their production, particularly in the implementation of TWB production into existing facilities. It will also be of interest to students and researchers in automotive and aerospace engineering.

Book High Velocity Forming of Steel Sheets and Tubes for Applications in the Automotive Industry HI VEL

Download or read book High Velocity Forming of Steel Sheets and Tubes for Applications in the Automotive Industry HI VEL written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of the HI-VEL project is to establish the feasibility of high velocity forming methods and to quantify the enhancement achievable with these techniques in the formability of high strength steel (HSS) and stainless steel sheets and tubes for automotive applications. Electromagnetic forming (EMF) and electrohydraulic forming (EHF) processes were studied during the HI-VEL project. After a first mechanical characterisation at strain rates up to 1000s-1, the following materials were selected for the high velocity experimental testing: AISI441 (1.4509), HT800XD (DP800), Dogal800DPX (DPX800), HT700TD (TRIP700) and IF210. The materials constitutive data at high strain rates were obtained for the Johnson Cook material modelling. EMF and EHF simulations were validated with experimental high velocity tests. The fatigue behaviour of high velocity formed samples was similar to the conventionally formed ones. Due to the low electrical conductivity of the HSS and stainless steels, the EMF technology showed its viability for these materials only in the case of small forming grades applications, such as the electromagnetic sizing of U-parts in order to eliminate the elastic recovery. For any other deep drawing operation, EMF technology can be applied to steels using an electrical conductive driver that accelerates the steel part towards the die. Comparing the conventional bulge forming and the multi-impulse EHF, the obtained dome heights increased from 57 to 70 mm for TRIP700 steel and from 48.5 to 54 mm for DPX800 steel. Multi-impulse EHF increased the formability of HSS and has interesting industrial applications, such as forming undercut part designs using a split die.

Book Intelligent Energy Field Manufacturing

Download or read book Intelligent Energy Field Manufacturing written by Wenwu Zhang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 729 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Edited by prominent researchers and with contributions from experts in their individual areas, Intelligent Energy Field Manufacturing: Interdisciplinary Process Innovations explores a new philosophy of engineering. An in-depth introduction to Intelligent Energy Field Manufacturing (EFM), this book explores a fresh engineering methodology that not only integrates but goes beyond methodologies such as Design for Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Concurrent Engineering, TRIZ, green and sustainable manufacturing, and more. This book gives a systematic introduction to classic non-mechanical manufacturing processes as well as offering big pictures of some technical frontiers in modern engineering. The book suggests that any manufacturing process is actually a process of injecting human intelligence into the interaction between material and the various energy fields in order to transfer the material into desired configurations. It discusses technological innovation, dynamic M-PIE flows, the generalities of energy fields, logic functional materials and intelligence, the open scheme of intelligent EFM implementation, and the principles of intelligent EFM. The book takes a highly interdisciplinary approach that includes research frontiers such as micro/nano fabrication, high strain rate processes, laser shock forming, materials science and engineering, bioengineering, etc., in addition to a detailed treatment of the so called "non-traditional" manufacturing processes, which covers waterjet machining, laser material processing, ultrasonic material processing, EDM/ECM, etc. Filled with illustrative pictures, figures, and tables that make technical materials more absorbable, the book cuts across multiple engineering disciplines. The majority of books in this area report the facts of proven knowledge, while the behind-the-scenes thinking is usually neglected. This book examines the big picture of manufacturing in depth before diving into the deta
