Depuis de nombreux lasers ont été proposés sur le marché. La plupart se sont révélés inadaptés à une utilisation en pratique quotidienne car d'indications trop spécifiques et difficiles à mettre en oeuvre. L'objet de ce travail est de présenter simplement les caractéristiques d'un laser, de montrer les paramètres que le praticien peut modifier. Ce sont notamment le niveau d'énergie, la fréquence et la durée du tir ainsi que la densité de puissance (par l'adjonction de burins). La variation de ces paramètres permet de moduler les caractéristiques du rayonnement Laser et donc ses effets sur le tissu vivant. Ces réglages par l'utilisateur permettent ainsi une plus grande polyvalence des indications des lasers modernes, notamment du laser Er-Yag.
