Book Lecture Notes In Topics In Path Integrals And String Representations

Download or read book Lecture Notes In Topics In Path Integrals And String Representations written by Luiz C L Botelho and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2017-02-03 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'All are every interesting topics treated with a high level of mathematical sophistication. One of the very useful tricks the author repeatedly resorts to is the introduction of one-parameter families of operators interpolating between two operators which appear naturally in the formalism. From this one-parameter family a differential equation for the determinant (or ratio of determinants) or for correlation functions is derived, which can then be solved. This is a very simple, elegant and powerful technique.'Mathematical Reviews ClippingsFunctional Integrals is a well-established method in mathematical physics, especially those mathematical methods used in modern non-perturbative quantum field theory and string theory. This book presents a unique, original and modern treatment of strings representations on Bosonic Quantum Chromodynamics and Bosonization theory on 2d Gauge Field Models, besides of rigorous mathematical studies on the analytical regularization scheme on Euclidean quantum field path integrals and stochastic quantum field theory. It follows an analytic approach based on Loop space techniques, functional determinant exact evaluations and exactly solubility of four dimensional QCD loop wave equations through Elfin Botelho fermionic extrinsic self avoiding string path integrals.

Book On Knowing The Natural Sciences

Download or read book On Knowing The Natural Sciences written by Richard P. McKeon and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2018-05-12 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Well before the current age of discourse, deconstruction, and multiculturalism, Richard McKeon propounded a philosophy of pluralism showing how "facts" and "values" are dependent on diverse ways of reading texts. This book is a transcription of an entire course, including both lectures and student discussions, taught by McKeon. As such, it provides an exciting introduction to McKeon's conception of pluralism, a central aspect of neo-Pragmatism, while demonstrating how pluralism works in a classroom setting. In his lectures, McKeon outlines the entire history of Western thinking on the sciences. Treating the central concepts of motion, space, time, and cause, he traces modern intellectual debates back to the ancient Greeks, notably Plato, Aristotle, Democritus, and the Sophists. As he brings the story of Western science up to the twentieth century, he uses his fabled semantic schema (reproduced here for the first time) to uncover new ideas and observations about cosmology, mechanics, dynamics, and other aspects of physical science. Illustrating the broad historical sweep of the lectures are a series of discussions which give detail to the course's intellectual framework. These discussions of Plato, Aristotle, Galileo, Newton, and Maxwell are perhaps the first published rendition of a philosopher in literal dialogue with his students. Led by McKeon's pointed questioning, the discussions reveal the difficulties and possibilities of learning to engage in serious intellectual communication.

Book Lectures in Magnetohydrodynamics

Download or read book Lectures in Magnetohydrodynamics written by Dalton D. Schnack and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-08-11 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Magnetohydrodynamics, or MHD, is a theoretical way of describing the statics and dynamics of electrically conducting uids. The most important of these uids occurring in both nature and the laboratory are ionized gases, called plasmas. These have the simultaneous properties of conducting electricity and being electrically charge neutral on almost all length scales. The study of these gases is called plasma physics. MHD is the poor cousin of plasma physics. It is the simplest theory of plasma dynamics. In most introductory courses, it is usually afforded a short chapter or lecture at most: Alfven ́ waves, the kink mode, and that is it. (Now, on to Landau damping!) In advanced plasma courses, such as those dealing with waves or kinetic theory, it is given an even more cursory treatment, a brief mention on the way to things more profound and interesting. (It is just MHD! Besides, real plasma phy- cists do kinetic theory!) Nonetheless, MHD is an indispensable tool in all applications of plasma physics.

Book Appendix Project

Download or read book Appendix Project written by Kate Zambreno and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the ongoing project of writing about grief; Zambreno's addendum to Book of Mutter. “I came up with the idea of writing these notes, or talks, out of a primary desire to not read from Book of Mutter, and instead to keep gesturing to its incompleteness and ongoingness, which connects, for me, to the fragmentary project of literature, and what I long for in writing." —from Appendix Project Inspired by the lectures of Roland Barthes, Anne Carson, and Jorge Luis Borges, Kate Zambreno's Appendix Project collects eleven talks and essays written in the course of the year following the publication of Book of Mutter, Zambreno's book on her mother that took her over a decade to write. These surprising and moving performances, underscored by the sleeplessness of the first year of her child's life, contain Zambreno's most original and dazzling thinking and writing to date. In Appendix Project Zambreno thinks through the work of On Kawara, Roland Barthes, W.G. Sebald, Bhanu Kapil, Walter Benjamin, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, Marguerite Duras, Marlene Dumas, Louise Bourgeois, Doris Salcedo, Jenny Holzer, and more.

Download or read book Optimization written by Simon Serovajsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-07-30 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimization: 100 Examples is a book devoted to the analysis of scenarios for which the use of well-known optimization methods encounter certain difficulties. Analysing such examples allows a deeper understanding of the features of these optimization methods, including the limits of their applicability. In this way, the book seeks to stimulate further development and understanding of the theory of optimal control. The study of the presented examples makes it possible to more effectively diagnose problems that arise in the practical solution of optimal control problems, and to find ways to overcome the difficulties that have arisen. Features Vast collection of examples Simple. accessible presentation Suitable as a research reference for anyone with an interest in optimization and optimal control theory, including mathematicians and engineers Examples differ in properties, i.e. each effect for each class of problems is illustrated by a unique example. Simon Serovajsky is a professor of mathematics at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Kazakhstan. He is the author of many books published in the area of optimization and optimal control theory, mathematical physics, mathematical modelling, philosophy and history of mathematics as well as a long list of high-quality publications in learned journals.

Book Robert Morrison and the Protestant Plan for China

Download or read book Robert Morrison and the Protestant Plan for China written by Christopher Daily and published by Hong Kong University Press. This book was released on 2013-07-01 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sent alone to China by the London Missionary Society in 1807, Robert Morrison (1782–1834) was one of the earliest Protestant missionaries in East Asia. During some 27 years in China, Macau and Malacca, he worked as a translator for the East India Company and founded an academy for converts and missionaries; independently, he translated the New Testament into Chinese and compiled the first Chinese-English dictionary. In the process, he was building the foundation of Chinese Protestant Christianity. This book critically explores the preparations and strategies behind this first Protestant mission to China. It argues that, whilst introducing Protestantism into China, Morrison worked to a standard template developed by his tutor David Bogue at the Gosport Academy in England. By examining this template alongside Morrison’s archival collections, the book demonstrates the many ways in which Morrison’s influential mission must be seen within the historical and ideological contexts of British evangelism. The result is this new interpretation of the beginnings of Protestant Christianity in China.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'With this scheme, John Anderson joins a very distinguished line of philosophers who have presented us with a set of categories. We have first Plato (the doctrine of Highest Kinds in his dialogue The Sophist), then Aristotle, Kant, Hegel, and Samuel Alexander.' – D. M. Armstrong, from the introduction. Space, Time and the Categories presents a unique record of personal influence and inspiration over three generations of philosophers in Australia, England and Scotland. This work is a vitally important text in the history of the development of realist philosophy in Australian universities. With an introduction by emeritus professor D.M. Armstrong whose own student notes are the basis for the text used, this book brings together three of the major figures in the history of Australian philosophy.

Download or read book Thomas Reid on Religion written by James J.S. Foster and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Reid was one of the greatest thinkers of the Scottish Enlightenment. In his own time he was seen as the most able opponent of the scepticism of David Hume and the architect of 'Common Sense' philosophy. His ideas were immensely influential both in his native Scotland and abroad, and the last forty years have seen a marked revival of interest in his work. Reid published very little about religion and his notes from the lectures on natural theology that he regularly gave have not survived. This volume - a companion to Thomas Reid: Selected Philosophical Writings (Imprint Academic, 2012) - makes available material from Reid's autograph manuscripts, housed in the University of Aberdeen Library, and student notes of Reid's lectures, edited from original manuscripts in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. It includes an introductory essay by Nicholas Wolterstorff, a leading philosopher of religion and interpreter of Reid.
