Book Apparently I m Not Everyone s Cup of Tea

Download or read book Apparently I m Not Everyone s Cup of Tea written by Graham Phipps and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2022-01-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2003 having secured two part time jobs within social care following a bout of redundancy I had to hit the ground running; one day trying to make sense of a cheese and potato pie recipe whilst residents waited patiently for their dinner, and the next day playing golf with a client who pushed cheating to the limits. To those who didn’t know him his scores were very impressive. Other scenarios including dealing with a client’s amorous dog that seemed to swing both ways and deep seated memories of a psychotic donkey called Lucky who was anything but, came under the heading of ”more thinking required”. Apparently I’m Not Everyone’s Cup of Tea gives an often humorous insight into working with various groups of people who, on the face of it, needed some support but often chose to ignore me. The title comes from a remark given to me by a lady client who then disappeared into the toilet with book in hand.

In this book men and women alike of all ages reach beneath their skin to reveal their inner self. Am I the same person day to day, year to year? Is there an essential core as the layers of life are peeled away? And to what extent do the different stages of life beg different kinds of answers to the question what it feels like to be me? Readers will see how similarly Julie aged 85 and Nina aged 14 address the questions and how the themes thread through all the contributions. Brilliant poems by Dannie Abse and Peter Phillips look back and forwards in their lives. An Israeli artist looks at himself in two photographs. Three commentators give their views: a professional counsellor, a distinguished scientist and Dr Jonathan Miller.

Book Because His Heart Was Strong

Download or read book Because His Heart Was Strong written by Chelsey L. Owens and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-12-10 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “That was the moment, the turning point. That was the moment I fully understood the depth of Daddy’s love for me. Similar to the love of Christ, I knew his lack of consciousness—or even more realistically, the hostility of death’s doorstep—could not interfere with my father’s matchless love for his only daughter. While Christ’s suffering made me realize His love for me, my daddy’s suffering made me realize my love for him.” Losing a parent is never easy. Losing a good parent is even crueler. But losing an admirable parent comparable to Christ, it’s an extremely bitter truth to accept. Written from the viewpoint of an undeniable Daddy’s girl, Because His Heart was Strong entwines the captivating journey of Rick Owens’ final decade of life through her own story, including the remarkable courage he demonstrated amidst prolonged suffering and the sheer legacy he imparted in death, highlighting the faith he placed in his Savior through it all.

Book Roy Chubby Brown Tell us one we Know New Edition 2021 e book

Download or read book Roy Chubby Brown Tell us one we Know New Edition 2021 e book written by Roy Chubby Brown and George Proudman and published by The Celebrity Gift Company Ltd. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tell us one we Know e-book Hi there everyone. Since realising that we are living in the 21st century after all, we thought we should try and ditch our technophobe image and bring out an e-book version of Tell us one we Know. It’s very likely that the chap who originally uttered those immortal words, “can you ‘Tell us one we Know’...” so many years ago in that Northern Club will probably be turning in his grave right now muttering, ‘What the f***k’s an e-book?’, but all the same, it has to be done. Our books are generally prescribed by medics for the cure of acute insomnia, so we’ve replaced the dark dinghy front cover from the original version with a brightly coloured new one, in the hope that if you start to nod off while reading, you can just flick back to the front of the book for it to shock you into waking up again. It also gave us the opportunity to tidy it up somewhat by putting the full stops and the commas in the right places; we got someone else to do that bit. With our e-book being more environmentally friendly, no trees to chop down, and therefore our small contribution to saving the planet, we would like to think that you feel compelled to buy one. If you haven’t already read ‘Tell us one we Know’, it’s a collection of stories that had been missed out of previous publications, filling in some gaps and looking behind the scenes of the comedy genius Roy Chubby Brown. If you have read the paperback, please have another look at the e-book version to hopefully convince yourself that we aren’t really as thick as you originally thought we was, err sorry, were. Either way there’s some funny stories of being on the road, a bit of history and a few of those just ‘getting it off me chest’ moments…. something for everybody, all accessible from the comfort of your own phone. Hope you enjoy the read as much as we did doing it all over again.

Book Battling Editor

Download or read book Battling Editor written by Harry Rosenfeld and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2018-12-31 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recounts the transformation of two daily newspapers in the face of economic downturns and sweeping technological change. In 1978, Harry Rosenfeld left the Washington Post, where he oversaw the paper’s standard-setting coverage of Watergate, to take charge of two daily papers under co-ownership in Albany, New York: the morning Times Union and the evening Knickerbocker News. It was a particularly challenging moment in newspaper history. While new technologies were reducing labor costs on the production side and providing ever more sophisticated tools for journalists to practice their craft, those very same technologies would soon turn a comparatively short-lived boom into a grave threat, as ever more digitally distracted readers turned to sources other than print and other legacy media for their news. Between these boundaries, Rosenfeld set about to do his work. Picking up where his previous memoir, From Kristallnacht to Watergate, left off, Battling Editor tells the story of how Rosenfeld and his colleagues transformed two daily publications into alert and aggressive newspapers even in times of economic downturn. Bringing the investigative habits he had honed in his years at the New York Herald Tribune and the Washington Post, Rosenfeld’s objective was to tell the fully rounded stories of the region’s cities, suburbs, and rural towns, with awareness of both their achievements and their shortcomings. Furthermore, the misuse of power, whenever it happened, whether in city hall or the state capitol, in courtrooms or prisons, or in hospitals, corporations, community organizations, was to be exposed, and those accountable were to be held responsible. More importantly, however, Rosenfeld’s account is enlisted in the growing call to arms for all who cover the news and all who consume it. Written at a time when the credibility of news organizations is under attack by those at the highest levels of government, Battling Editor is a full-throated defense of fact-based journalism and hard-hitting reporting at the local as well as national level. Harry Rosenfeld’s award-winning book, From Kristallnacht to Watergate: Memoirs of a Newspaperman, was praised by Tom Brokaw as “a great American story ... the inspiring saga of Harry Rosenfeld, arriving as a refugee and rising to the inner circle of journalists who uncovered the greatest scandal in the history of the Presidency.” Rosenfeld lives in Albany, New York, where he is Editor-at-Large and a consultant at the Times Union, and also a member of the newspaper’s editorial board.
