Book Predicting Rainfall Erosion Losses

Download or read book Predicting Rainfall Erosion Losses written by Walter H. Wischmeier and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) enables planners to predict the average rate of soil erosion for each feasible alternative combination of crop system and management practices in association with a specified soil type, rainfall pattern, and topography. When these predicted losses are compared with given soil loss tolerances, they provide specific guidelines for effecting erosion control within specified limits. The equation groups the numerous interrelated physical and management parameters that influence erosion rate under six major factors whose site-specific values can be expressed numerically. A half century of erosion research in many States has supplied information from which at least approximate values of the USLE factors can be obtained for specified farm fields or other small erosion prone areas throughout the United States. Tables and charts presented in this handbook make this information readily available for field use. Significant limitations in the available data are identified.

This book was released on 1994-04-26 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Distinguished multinational contributors present research of small catchments to examine a variety of environmental problems, especially those of acidification, forest management and land-use changes. Divided into two parts, it introduces theoretical concepts followed by a review of atmospheric deposition and evaluation of weathering and erosion processes. The second half deals with the methodology of the given discipline, stressing novel approaches and discussing problems.

Book Lake Restoration Handbook

Download or read book Lake Restoration Handbook written by David P. Hamilton and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-29 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lakes across the globe require help. The Lake Restoration Handbook: A New Zealand Perspective addresses this need through a series of chapters that draw on recent advances in modelling and monitoring tools, citizen science and First Peoples’ roles, catchment and lake-focused restoration techniques, and policy implementation. New Zealand lakes, like lakes across the globe, are subject to multiple pressures that have increased in severity and scale as land use has intensified, invasive species have spread and global climate change becomes manifest. This books builds on the popular Lake Managers Handbook (1987), which provided guidance on undertaking investigations into, and understanding lake ecosystems in New Zealand. The Lake Restoration Handbook: A New Zealand Perspective synthesises contemporary issues related to lake restoration and rehabilitation, integrated with social science and cultural viewpoints, and complemented by authoritative topic-area summaries by renowned scientists and practitioners from across the globe. The book examines the progress of lake restoration and the new and emerging tools available to managers for predicting and effecting change. The book will be a valuable resource for natural and social scientists, policy writers, lake managers, and anyone interested in the health of lake ecosystems.

Book Hillslope Materials and Processes

Download or read book Hillslope Materials and Processes written by Michael John Selby and published by Oxford University Press on Demand. This book was released on 1993 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition, like its predecessor, provides students with an integrated review of the basic knowledge and methods which form the foundation for advanced study. It also brings them information on the latest contributions to developments in the understanding of hillslopes. Since publication of the first edition, not only has knowledge advanced but an interdisciplinary approach to much of the research has become increasingly common and productive. These developments are reflected in this book by the threefold expansion of the bibliography and by the bringing together of the approaches and scientific knowledge from the contributing disciplines of geology, civil engineering, hydrology, soil science, ecology, and geomorphology to produce a comprehensive text which makes possible an integrated understanding of hillslopes. Approximately seventy per cent of the text is new, with many new figures and plates, which has enabled Professor Selby to provide a more comprehensive introduction than in the first edition to the nature of chemical bonding, the properties of mineral particles and fabrics of weak rock, rheology of rock and soil, hillslope hydrology, hillslope stratigraphy, and landslide hazard investigation.

Describes the legal and voluntary tools which are available to protect biodiversity and opportunities for public involvement in their deployment. Identifies elements of 'good practice' and how they can be implemented on the ground. Includes specific chapters addressing biodiversity in indigenous grasslands, forests, productive land, freshwater, urban environments, wetlands, coastal areas and the sea. An invaluable resource for anyone concerned with managing and protecting biodiversity, including landowners, community groups, local authorities, developers and planners.--Cover.
