This tension is founded upon the conflict between Hellenic dualist and Semitic 'seemingly' monist models of theological outlooks that have influenced faith and science throughout human history. However, such conflict belies a hidden undercurrent that connects both viewpoints. A discussion of theology which does not think in radical Christological terms could easily identify Gregory of Nyssa as a dualist and Ephrem the Syrian as a monist. A careful examination and synthesis, however, of their interpretations of Genesis 3:21 proves that Christianity is not so limited as to fail to provide an answer to the age old inquiry regarding the nature of humanity in a unitary Christocentric model. While the role of Christian theology is to answer the 'why' and not the 'how', in addition to addressing the 'why', this book also proposes a novel way for science to think about the 'how'. The analysis of the theological works of these two ancient Christian authors regarding creation, the image and likeness, the fall, the 'garments of skin' and the incarnation of the Word will show that in Christ, humanity is not only returning to a protological point but also being invited to fulfill its teleological invitation to partake of divine nature.

I argue that identity is transformational but even though the surface level artefacts (embodied clothing practices) vary in degree and deep ethics and beliefs will remain unaffected. Particularly focusing on the Syrian Christian community in Kerala. From examining the clothing practise of wearing a chatta in colonial India by the women in the Syrian Christian community, to how women of all race, religion and embraced churidar. This research aims to fill the gap in current scholarship, with respect to transformation of Syrian Christian social Identity and aims to fill it. This paper explores social identity with respect to Kerala's assumed exceptionalism, contending that such idea is a recent social construct and historically the state held rigorous caste based distinction. And with respect to the community's transformation, the paper analyses cultural changes within the Kerala society as well. They are caste-, race-, and class-privileged, and have long benefitted, both economically and socially, from their privileged position. Focusing on Syrian Christian women, Sonja Thomas explores how this community illuminates larger questions of multiple oppressions, privilege and subordination, racialization, and religion and secularism in India. In Privileged Minorities, Thomas examines a wide range of sources, including oral histories, ethnographic interviews, and legislative assembly debates, to interrogate the relationships between religious rights and women�s rights in Kerala. Using an intersectional approach, and US women of color feminist theory, she demonstrates the ways that race, caste, gender, religion, and politics are inextricably intertwined, with power and privilege working in complex and nuanced ways. By attending to the ways in which inequalities within groups shape very different experiences of religious and political movements in feminist and rights-based activism, Thomas lays the groundwork for imagining new feminist solidarities across religions, castes, races, and classes.

Exemplary Life probes the power of examples, the modelling of sainthood around Myrna’s figure, and the broader context for Syrian Christians in the changing landscape of the Middle East. The book highlights the social use of examples such as the ones inhabited by Myrna’s devout followers and how they reveal the broader structures of illustration, evidence, and persuasion in social and cultural settings. Andreas Bandak argues that the role of the example should incite us to investigate which trains of thought set local worlds in motion. In doing so, Exemplary Life presents a novel frame for examining how religion comes to matter to people and adds a critical dimension to current anthropological engagements with ethics and morality.
