Book Modern Antennas

Download or read book Modern Antennas written by S. Drabowitch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why yet another book on antennas ? The aim of the authors was to offer a didactic text appropriate for advanced graduate students, as well as a practical work for practicing engineers; to combine a solid theoretical treatment with a practical development which should allow the serious reader to undertake antenna design from fIrst principles. To accomplish these goals, the authors bring together their contributions from both industry and the academic environment. The developments of the various topics start at a level which is accessible to a novice in the speciality, but give a treatment which culminates at an advanced level. Another important feature of the book is its use of practical examples illustrating real engineering problems and designs. In most cases, the explanation is sufficient to grasp the principles of operation of the related equipment, and, where appropriate, the reader is referred to a relevant bibliography for more complete and hence more sophisticated methodologies of design. Of particular note are the chapters on specialist subjects such as antennas and signal theory, and signal processing antennas, showing how the antenna may be combined with signal processing techniques in imaging applications, in angular superresolution, and in adaptive arrays to suppress interference and jamming. Another example is the chapter on the use of polarimetry to enhance the wealth of information which may be extracted, for example, from radar signals.

Book Smart Antennas and Electromagnetic Signal Processing in Advanced Wireless Technology

Download or read book Smart Antennas and Electromagnetic Signal Processing in Advanced Wireless Technology written by Paul R.P. Hoole and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses the current demand for a scientific approach to advanced wireless technology and its future developments. It gives a clear presentation of both antennas and adaptive signal processing which is what makes antennas powerful, maneuverable and necessary for advanced wireless technology. The book presents electromagnetic signal processing techniques that both control the antenna beam and track the moving station, which is required for effective, fast, dynamic beamforming. The first part of the book presents a comprehensive description and analysis of basic antenna theory, starting from short dipole antennas to array antennas. This section also includes important concepts related to antenna parameters, electromagnetic wave propagation, the Friis equation, the radar equation and wave reflection and transmission through media. The second part of the book focuses on smart antennas, commencing from a look at the traditional approach to beamforming before getting into the details of smart antennas. Complete derivation and description of the techniques for electromagnetic field signal processing techniques for adaptive beamforming are also presented. Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven beamforming is presented using computationally fast and low-memory demanding technique for AI beamforming is presented with the different excitation functions available. A novel method for fast, low memory and accurate, maneuverable single beam generation is presented, as well as other methods for beamforming with fewer elements along with a simple method for tracking the mobile antenna and station. In this section, for completeness, the use of antenna signal processing for synthetic aperture techniques for imaging is also presented, specifically the Inverse Synthetic Aperture Imaging technique. The third part of the book presents technological aspects of advanced wireless technology, including the 5G wireless system and the various devices needed to construct it. While the books’ main emphasis is theoretical understanding and design, it includes applications, and legal matters are also presented.

Book Radiowave Propagation and Smart Antennas for Wireless Communications

Download or read book Radiowave Propagation and Smart Antennas for Wireless Communications written by Ramakrishna Janaswamy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-27 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book emerged from teaching a graduate level course in propagation and smart antennas at the Naval Postgraduate School. In its present form, it is suitable not only as a graduate level text, but also as a reference book for industry and research use. The area of radiowave propagation and smart antennas is highly interdisciplinary, extracting material from electromagn- ics, communications, and signal processing. This book is useful to workers in electromagnetics who would like to supplement their background with relevant communicational aspects and to workers in communications who would like to supplement their background with relevant electromagnetic aspects. Anyone with a basic understanding of probability, wave propagation, digital com- nications, and elementary signal processing should be able to appreciate the contents of the book. The book consists of nine chapters with several worked out examples d- persed throughout. Chapter 1 covers the basics of cellular communications. Chapter 2 covers the basic principles of electromagnetic wave propagation relevant to path loss predictions in wireless communications. Students with little prior background in electromagnetics should find the first few sections of Chapter 2 self-sufficient. Empirical path loss models that are used in system design are treated in Chapter 3. The chapter includes the traditional models as well as some of the newer models. Chapter 4 has a thorough discussion on the causes and characterization of small scale fading. The topic of spatial c- relation that is very important for antenna arrays is discussed there in detail.

Book Methods of Signal Processing for Adaptive Antenna Arrays

Download or read book Methods of Signal Processing for Adaptive Antenna Arrays written by Larysa Titarenko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-23 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So far there does not exist any theory of adaptive spatial signal processing (ASSP) for signals with uncertain parameters. This monograph is devoted to the development of this theory, which is very important in connection with wide spreading of telecommunications and radio links in the modern society. This theory can be applied for the development of effective radio communications. In the book some original approaches are proposed targeting the development of effective algorithms of ASSP with not exactly known parameters. They include both probabilistic and deterministic approaches for synthesis of robust algorithms of ASSP. The solution of problems also can be reduced to the construction of some operators for the Banach space which is presented in the book. “Methods of Signal Processing for Adaptive Antenna Arrays” targets professionals, students and PhD students in the area of telecommunications and should be useful for everybody connected with the new information technologies.

Book Parasitic Antenna Arrays for Wireless MIMO Systems

Download or read book Parasitic Antenna Arrays for Wireless MIMO Systems written by Antonis Kalis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book unites two different technologies: parasitic antenna arrays driven via analogue circuits that control the electromagnetic waves generated by the antenna array; and MIMO technology for multi-antenna arrays, typically driven by digital techniques in the baseband domain. The combination of these two technologies has revealed a novel functionality that breaks through the conventional MIMO paradigm, allowing MIMO transmission over the air with the use of antenna arrays that may consist of only a single active element, that is surrounded by a number of passive neighboring antennas. The contributions in the book show the capability of such systems to also perform MIMO transmission. This fact holds the potential of revolutionizing the way small-form wireless terminals operate and seems to set the scene for a win-win situation, achieving MIMO transmission with very small and cheap antenna arrays. The book is structured to provide a well-rounded treatment of the various facets of this newly discovered wireless communication capability. All relevant technical angles, ranging from information theoretic to electromagnetic considerations; from analogue circuit to digital baseband control for signal generation; and from channel modeling to communication theoretic aspects are taken into account. A good balance between theory, practical considerations and over-the-air experimentation is proposed and reflected in the chapter outline. Finally, a discussion and early evidence related to potential applications as well as the relevance to current and upcoming wireless standards is provided.
