Book Another Day Another Delusion Selected Lyrics

Download or read book Another Day Another Delusion Selected Lyrics written by Keith Charles Dovoric and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A working artist for over two decades, NJ-native Keith Charles Dovoric marries the traditions of musicianship and lyric-writing to craft an unexpectedly fresh breath of literary songcraft. Presaged by the likes of the "rock poets" (Dylan, Cohen, Springsteen, Zevon) as well as the giants of written verse (Dorothy Parker, T.S. Eliot), and featuring over 180 songs, Another Day, Another Delusion: Selected Lyrics is the ideal distillation of a writer, musician, and performer whose provocative compositions -- not to mention jaundiced world-view -- have set him apart from the cookie-cutter ethos of middlebrow pop culture. "This compendium is the upshot of ten years' worth of assemblage, blood, glory, misery, malignancy, and squalor. I feel it presents me well, for lack of better terms. I'm very pleased with it."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The same week William Jefferson Clinton was sworn in as head of our national family, I became a father. And so begins one columnist's journey through the Clinton presidency. For humorist and political commentator Michael Graham, the trip is a hilarious tour de farce of America at its most ridiculous, and its most real. In the tradition of H. L. Menken (after whom his son is named) and P. J. O'Rourke, Michael Graham lets fly his lampoons on deserving targets across the American landscape. From Al Gore on the left ("the ideology of Ralph Nader, the ethics of Richard Nixon") to Strom Thurmond on the right (campaign slogan: "Getting Out of Bed for More Than 94% of a Century!"), Graham casts his merrily cynical eye and sees all. Graham begins this collection of contemporary humor with an overview of the Clinton years and how they have changed him as a citizen, a father, and a writer ("What other president could turn the phrase 'face time' into an instant punchline?") He proceeds to take us on a joyous ride through the peaks and valleys of the pants-free presidency. It's all here: Filegate, Travelgate, the Buddhist Temple and, of c

Book excerpt: INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER From beloved and bestselling author Terry Fallis comes a novel unlike any of his others. A thoughtful exploration of aging, loss, family, friendship, and love, all with his trademark humour and heart. Jack McMaster seemingly has it all. A beautiful house, a loving son of many talents (including cooking, which is great news for Jack, if not for his waistline), even a special bond with his buddies in his ball hockey league. But he’s also learning to live with loss, leaving a gaping hole in his life—a life that will never be the same as before. Jack passes his days knowing he has the support of his family and his friends, but he can’t shake the feeling that his life has gone gray, and that time is slipping by so quickly. Then, a short and shocking video from an unexpected source gives him the gumption to make a change and maybe even haul himself out of his melancholia. Inspired by his lifelong fascination with 1920s Paris, Jack finally visits the City of Light, following in the footsteps of Hemingway and Fitzgerald, and wandering the Left Bank. Slowly, the colour seeps back into his life, aided by a chance encounter in a café that leads Jack into the art world, and a Paris mystery nearly a century old. Full of sincerity and warmth, A New Season shows us all that sometimes, making a change in your life can save your life.

Such secrets refuse to be confined to Sweetville. But instead will come home with you. Changing everything. Forever… Praise for Secrets of the Weird: "Secrets of the Weird is a harrowing walk through a landscape populated by modern horrors and lit only by failing neon, where the only saving graces are whatever bravery we can summon up from within and whatever kindness we can muster toward our fellow outcasts, and Chad Stroup is the best possible guide a reader could ask for." -- Jeremy P. Bushnell, author of The Insides and The Weirdness "I found Secrets of the Weird to be an engaging and fascinating read. It is a highly unusual, admirably creative foray into a deeply, deeply disturbing world of fiction which nonetheless resonates with modern reality." -- Hal Bodner, author of The Trouble with Hairy and Bite Club! "Insane in the most amazingly sublime hallucinogenic way. Every word, every setting, every character is a garishly intelligent choice. This is the most bizarre but incredible mash up of New Jack City, Blade Runner and Game of Thrones. In an era of non-binary gender and fluid sexuality this is a relevant and timely tale." -- Tracy Lee Palmer, Signal Horizon Proudly presented by Grey Matter Press, the home of multiple Bram Stoker Award-nominated volumes of horror. Book Robert Burns

Download or read book Robert Burns written by Patrick Scott Hogg and published by Random House. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns (1759-96), Patrick Scott Hogg presents the greatest of Scotland's poets within the true context of his times. Exploding the Burns myth, Robert Burns: The Patriot Bard replaces the ram-stam lad of popular cliché with the real, living Burns - a Scottish patriot of the heart, an idealist who wished for 'Freedom and Liberty' for his beloved country, but also a man who was pragmatically a British patriot and risked his life for democratic reform. Here Burns is painted in his native colours as a highly complex, hyper-intelligent writer in both prose and poetry, not the semi-confused, contradictory simpleton of previous biographies. The fascinating legend of Burns as a ladies' man is placed where it should be - as less important than the message of the bard. The real day-to-day Burns was irascible, stubborn-minded, independent, controversial and opinionated. He detested many of his social superiors within the feudal order and attacked them as hypocrites and oppressors of the common people. The voice of Burns, always in the language of the people, and his idealist vision of a better world endeared him as a poet of humanity 'the world o'er'. Drawing from Burns' existing canon of poetry and letters, plus some newly attributed works suppressed for over two centuries, this life story is a roller-coaster narrative that charts the success and untimely death of the greatest songwriter of all time, the real Robert Burns.

Book The Politics of Vibration

    Book Details:
  • Author : Marcus Boon
  • Publisher : Duke University Press
  • Release : 2022-08-08
  • ISBN : 1478023015
  • Pages : 181 pages

Download or read book The Politics of Vibration written by Marcus Boon and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2022-08-08 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Politics of Vibration Marcus Boon explores music as a material practice of vibration. Focusing on the work of three contemporary musicians—Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Pran Nath, Swedish drone composer and philosopher Catherine Christer Hennix, and Houston-based hip-hop musician DJ Screw—Boon outlines how music constructs a vibrational space of individual and collective transformation. Contributing to a new interdisciplinary field of vibration studies, he understands vibration as a mathematical and a physical concept, as a religious or ontological force, and as a psychological determinant of subjectivity. Boon contends that music, as a shaping of vibration, needs to be recognized as a cosmopolitical practice—in the sense introduced by Isabelle Stengers—in which what music is within a society depends on what kinds of access to vibration are permitted, and to whom. This politics of vibration constitutes the hidden ontology of contemporary music because the organization of vibration shapes individual music scenes as well as the ethical choices that participants in these scenes make about how they want to live in the world.
