Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 27 contributions in the 2007 edition of this venerated series synthesize recent research on semiconductor exciton properties, quantized states of nanostructures, small molecule processes, and complex media such as membranes and molecular motors. Several of the papers address biophysical chemistry advances in lipid bilayers, cellular signal transduction, protein-folding pathways, and prion disease. Other topics include the theory of structural glasses and supercooled liquids, localized surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, molecular architectonic on metal surfaces, isomerization through conical intersections, and exciton photophysics of carbon nanotubes.

Book Annual Review of Physical Chemistry

Download or read book Annual Review of Physical Chemistry written by Geraldine L. Richmond and published by Annual Reviews. This book was released on 2008-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 30 articles contributed to the unusually large 2008 edition of the annual series summarize recent advances in biophysical chemistry, quantum chemical statistical mechanics, condensed phase chemical kinetics, polymers, ordered arrays, nanoscale materials, and surface phenomena. In the opening chapter, Stuart Rice recounts his research career at the University of Chicago studying the transport properties of liquids, electronic excitation in crystals, quantum control, and the liquid-metal vapor interface. Paper topics include infrared spectroscopy of photo-switchable peptides, ions at aqueous interfaces, fluctuation theorems, elastic modeling of biomembranes and lipid bilayers, and collapse mechanisms of Langmiur monolayers.

Book Introduction to Physical Chemistry

Download or read book Introduction to Physical Chemistry written by M. F. C. Ladd and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1986-10-16 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook presents a straightforward introduction to physical chemistry. Whilst stressing the fundamentals of the subject, it avoids the mathematical details of specialised techniques such as quantum theory, nuclear magnetic resonance, and spectroscopy. In order to promote an appreciation of 3-dimensional structure in the study of stereo-chemistry and solids, many of the illustrations are presented as stereoscopic views, and directions for observing them are given in an appendix. Each chapter ends with a set of problems of varying degrees of difficulty, which will assist the student in gaining familiarity with the themes of the book, and in testing their ability to apply these themes to new situations; full solutions are provided. The S1 system of units is used throughout and appendices serve as a useful reference source of numerical data. Some mathematical arguments are also developed in appendices, because their inclusion in the text might distract readers from the development of the subject. The book has been developed front an earlier publication by the authors entitled Modern Physical Chemistry, published by Penguin Books Ltd.

Book The Chemistry of Paper

    Book Details:
  • Author : John Christopher Roberts
  • Publisher : Royal Society of Chemistry
  • Release : 1996
  • ISBN : 9780854045181
  • Pages : 212 pages

Download or read book The Chemistry of Paper written by John Christopher Roberts and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 1996 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For what is thought of as an essentially mechanical process, paper manufacture involves a large amount of chemistry. The Chemistry of Paper provides an overview of the process of making paper from a chemical perspective. It deals with both the chemistry of paper as a material and the chemistry of its production, setting out the main principles involved at every stage of the process. Early chapters provide a chemical definition of paper in the light of the many uses to which it is put. Subsequent chapters deal with the chemical processes involved in the production of paper: the delignification of the wood fibres performed at elevated temperature and pressure, the bleaching of the cellulose-rich pulp using environmentally-friendly systems, the formation of the pulp into sheets of fibres strengthened by extensive inter-fibre hydrogen bonding, and finally the coating of the sheets in a manner appropriate to their end use. Chemistry is involved at every stage of the process, including carbohydrate chemistry, the chemistry of inorganic pigments and organic resins, colloid and surface chemistry, as well as elements of environmental and analytical chemistry. The Chemistry of Paper provides an informative and entertaining overview of the chemical principles involved. It will be especially suitable for students and others who require an introduction to the chemistry of paper manufacture.
