Book Topological Methods for Ordinary Differential Equations

Download or read book Topological Methods for Ordinary Differential Equations written by Patrick Fitzpatrick and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume contains the texts of four courses, given by the authors at a summer school that sought to present the state of the art in the growing field of topological methods in the theory of o.d.e. (in finite and infinitedimension), and to provide a forum for discussion of the wide variety of mathematical tools which are involved. The topics covered range from the extensions of the Lefschetz fixed point and the fixed point index on ANR's, to the theory of parity of one-parameter families of Fredholm operators, and from the theory of coincidence degree for mappings on Banach spaces to homotopy methods for continuation principles. CONTENTS: P. Fitzpatrick: The parity as an invariant for detecting bifurcation of the zeroes of one parameter families of nonlinear Fredholm maps.- M. Martelli: Continuation principles and boundary value problems.- J. Mawhin: Topological degree and boundary value problems for nonlinear differential equations.- R.D. Nussbaum: The fixed point index and fixed point theorems.

Book Advances on Computer Mathematics and Its Applications

Download or read book Advances on Computer Mathematics and Its Applications written by Elias A. Lipitakis and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains selected papers of the proceedings of the first Hellenic Conference on Mathematics and Informatics (HERMIS '92). The main theme for HERMIS '92 Conference was Computer Mathematics, with special emphasis on Computational Mathematics, Operational Research and Statistics, and Mathematics in Economic Science. The presented papers of the HERMIS Conference have been classified into the following technical sessions: Numerical solution of Differential Equations, Parallel Processing and Parallel Algorithms, Optimization and Approximation, Algorithms in Operational Research and Control Theory, Statistical Methods and Analysis, Mathematics in Economic Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Bases Technology. In addition, a number of selected research articles published recently in the Hellenic Mathematical Society Bulletin in the form of special issues on Computer Mathematics (Volumes 31 and 32) are also included.

Book Consequences of the Axiom of Choice

Download or read book Consequences of the Axiom of Choice written by Paul Howard and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Consequences of the Axiom of Choice, is a comprehensive listing of statements that have been proved in the last 100 years using the axiom of choice. Each consequence, also referred to as a form of the axiom of choice, is assigned a number. Part I is a listing of the forms by number. In this part each form is given together with a listing of all statements known to be equivalent to it (equivalent in set theory without the axiom of choice). In Part II the forms are arranged by topic. In Part III we describe the models of set theory which are used to show non-implications between forms. Part IV, the notes section, contains definitions, summaries of important sub-areas and proofs that are not readily available elsewhere. Part V gives references for the relationships between forms and Part VI is the bibliography. Part VII is contained on the floppy disk which is enclosed in the book. It contains a table with form numbers as row and column headings. The entry in the table in row $n$, column $k$ gives the status of the implication ``form $n$ implies form $k$''. Software for easily extracting information from the table is also provided. Features: complete summary of all the work done in the last 100 years on statements that are weaker than the axiom of choice software provided gives complete, convenient access to information about relationships between the various consequences of the axiom of choice and about the models of set theory descriptions of more than 100 models used in the study of the axiom of choice an extensive bibliography About the software: Tables 1 and 2 are accessible on the PC-compatible software included with the book. In addition, the program maketex.c in the software package will create TeX files containing copies of Table 1 and Table 2 which may then be printed. (Tables 1 and 2 are also available at the authors' Web sites: http://www.math.purdue.edu/$\sim$jer/ or http://www.emunix.emich.edu/$\sim$phoward/.) Detailed instructions for setting up and using the software are included in the book's Introduction, and technical support is available directly from the authors.

Book Bibliography of Mathematical Logic

Download or read book Bibliography of Mathematical Logic written by Heinz-Dieter Ebbinghaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gert H. Müller The growth of the number of publications in almost all scientific areas, as in the area of (mathematical) logic, is taken as a sign of our scientifically minded culture, but it also has a terrifying aspect. In addition, given the rapidly growing sophistica tion, specialization and hence subdivision of logic, researchers, students and teachers may have a hard time getting an overview of the existing literature, partic ularly if they do not have an extensive library available in their neighbourhood: they simply do not even know what to ask for! More specifically, if someone vaguely knows that something vaguely connected with his interests exists some where in the literature, he may not be able to find it even by searching through the publications scattered in the review journals. Answering this challenge was and is the central motivation for compiling this Bibliography. The Bibliography comprises (presently) the following six volumes (listed with the corresponding Editors): I. Classical Logic W. Rautenberg 11. Non-classical Logics W. Rautenberg 111. Model Theory H.-D. Ebbinghaus IV. Recursion Theory P.G. Hinman V. Set Theory A.R. Blass VI. ProofTheory; Constructive Mathematics J.E. Kister; D. van Dalen & A.S. Troelstra.
