Ainsi les valeurs extrèmes obtenues par Rumford sont et celles qu'a trouvées H0pe ont varié de à enfin, M. Hallstrom a donné et3°,4. Je parle ici des résultats qu'a trou vès directement M. Hallstrüm. Ce savant a ensuite ap pliqué la méthode des moindres carrésà la discussion des trente-deux nombres connus dont la moyenne est et il est arrivé à une équation du second degré d'où l'on tire t=4°,1 En sorte qu'en défini tive, le savant suédois ne donne que les limites et dont la difl'érence est o°,54; difi'érenue'tr0p comi déñable pour dissiper l'incertitude qui règne sur la tem pérature du maximum. Ainsi M. Hallstrom n'a donné, après la discussion de toutes les expériences que deux limites éloignées de plus d'un demi - degré.
