Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most beloved books of the New Testament, the Gospel of Matthew speaks with eloquence and power. Among the Gospels, Matthew paints a fuller picture of the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus. Anna Case-Winters's incisive commentary reveals that Matthew is clearly a theological book. It is about God's saving work in Jesus Christ. Moreover, it is presented in a way that easily lends itself to the task of teaching and preaching. Case-Winters highlights five themes that shape the distinctive portrait of Jesus this Gospel offers. Here we see Jesus facing up to conflict and controversy, ministering at the margins, overturning presuppositions about insiders and outsiders, privileging the powerless, demonstrating the authority of ethical leadership, challenging allegiance to empire, and pointing the way to a wider divine embrace than many dared imagine. Case-Winters captures the core of Matthew's unique Gospel, which speaks powerfully to the life of Christian faith today in the midst of our own issues and struggles.

Book Made in China

Download or read book Made in China written by Anna Qu and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A young girl forced to work in a Queens sweatshop calls child services on her mother in this powerful debut memoir about labor and self-worth that traces a Chinese immigrant's journey to an American future. As a teen, Anna Qu is sent by her mother to work in her family's garment factory in Queens. At home, she is treated as a maid and suffers punishment for doing her homework at night. Her mother wants to teach her a lesson: she is Chinese, not American, and such is their tough path in their new country. But instead of acquiescing, Qu alerts the Office of Children and Family Services, an act with consequences that impact the rest of her life. Nearly twenty years later, estranged from her mother and working at a Manhattan start-up, Qu requests her OCFS report. When it arrives, key details are wrong. Faced with this false narrative, and on the brink of losing her job as the once-shiny start-up collapses, Qu looks once more at her life's truths, from abandonment to an abusive family to seeking dignity and meaning in work. Traveling from Wenzhou to Xi'an to New York, Made in China is a fierce memoir unafraid to ask thorny questions about trauma and survival in immigrant families, the meaning of work, and the costs of immigration.

Book Unpacking the Collection

Download or read book Unpacking the Collection written by Sarah Byrne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Museum collections are often perceived as static entities hidden away in storerooms or trapped behind glass cases. By focusing on the dynamic histories of museum collections, new research reveals their pivotal role in shaping a wide range of social relations. Over time and across space the interactions between these artefacts and the people and institutions who made, traded, collected, researched and exhibited them have generated complex networks of material and social agency. In this innovative volume, the contributors draw on a broad range of source materials to explore the cross-cultural interactions which have created museum collections. These case studies contribute significantly to the development of new theoretical frameworks to examine broader questions of materiality, agency, and identity in the past and present. Grounded in case studies from individual objects and museum collections from North America, Europe, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and Australia, this truly international volume juxtaposes historical, geographical, and cross-cultural studies. This work will be of great interest to archaeologists and anthropologists studying material culture, as well as researchers in museum studies and cultural heritage management.

Book God Will Be All in All

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anna Case-Winters
  • Publisher : Westminster John Knox Press
  • Release : 2021-10-26
  • ISBN : 9780664267025
  • Pages : 250 pages

Download or read book God Will Be All in All written by Anna Case-Winters and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early Christians saw in Jesus the focus and fulfillment of the conviction that God is with us. Over time, they learned to speak of that presence in terms of divine incarnation. That one theological affirmation raises questions for practically all other Christian beliefs. If God is incarnate in Jesus of Nazareth, how does that change our understanding of God's presence in all things? What does it mean to be human if the life of God has been so intimately joined to human life? How can we say "God is with us" when there is so much suffering and evil in the world? What do we mean by “us”? Just us Christians or all of us? Just human beings or also the whole creation? If we find life in the wider cosmos, is God with them too? Looking through the lens of the incarnation, how wide is the divine embrace? In this volume, Anna Case-Winters demonstrates that the doctrine of the incarnation of God in Christ is not simply one belief among others; it is the cornerstone on which all other Christian convictions are built. Throughout, she carefully lays out the consequences for Christian belief and Christian life of the ancient confession that in Christ, “the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily.”

Book Dating Monsters Collection 1

Download or read book Dating Monsters Collection 1 written by Kinsley Adams and published by Kinsley Adams. This book was released on 2022-02-14 with total page 849 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this tantalizing box set, dive into the unexpected life of a vlogger turned vampire, where love, danger, and eternal intrigue intertwine across three captivating books. Follow her journey from the vibrant streets of New Orleans to the shadowy corners of vampire society as she navigates newfound immortality, a legendary romance with Dracula, and threats lurking in the night. With a blend of humor, heart, and a dash of fang-filled drama, this series will leave you thirsting for more. Dating Dracula Yesterday, I was a wannabe journalist hunting for a juicy story in a seedy vampire club. Today, I'm the newest member of the undead country club, thanks to Dracula himself. He’s not just a vampire, he’s the vampire—a legend wrapped in an enigma with a seductive smile and hypnotic eyes that are impossible to ignore. Especially when he claims I’m his soulmate. Now, navigating my new immortal life involves more than just adjusting to fangs; it's about resisting (or not) the allure of the most infamous vampire ever. But first, I have to settle the score with the vampire who tried to murder me in the first place. Loving Dracula Just when I thought I had a handle on my new nocturnal lifestyle, I’m hit with the next challenge—introducing my soulmate and love of my life, Dracula, to my family. Think your family dinners are tense? Try bringing home the Prince of Darkness himself. And if that isn't enough, the Queen of Vampires has sent an inquisitor to question us about her mate’s untimely demise. Apparently, self-defense doesn’t fly in vampire court. My life has become really dangerous since dying. Who knew eternity would involve not just surviving family gatherings, but also evading the wrath of a vengeful vampire queen? Marrying Dracula My life has taken yet another unexpected turn, and this time, it’s taken me to a dungeon cell in jolly old England, far from the wedding bells I imagined. Separated from Dracula and facing the vampire queen's fury, I'm ready to fight for our love and a chance at forever. It’s do-or-die time—quite literally. I’m not about to lose Vlad, not when our forever is at stake. The queen is about to learn how far I'll go to protect my happily ever after. It might be time to put her back in her grave—permanently.

Book God s Power

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anna Case-Winters
  • Publisher : Westminster John Knox Press
  • Release : 1990-01-01
  • ISBN : 9780664251062
  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book God s Power written by Anna Case-Winters and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 1990-01-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this book, Anna Case-Winters provides a reconstruction of the doctrine of God based on process theology and feminist thought. She takes a fresh approach to the problem of theodicy (the justification of God's goodness and omnipotence in view of the existence of evil) and contends that traditional attempts to address this problem are unsuccessful because they do not discuss the meaning of omnipotence. Once the dispute is recast, it is not a question of how much power is attributed to God, but what kind. Case-Winters provides a coherent and theologically viable doctrine of omnipotence that avoids the pitfalls of traditional beliefs.

Book Reconstructing a Christian Theology of Nature

Download or read book Reconstructing a Christian Theology of Nature written by Anna Case-Winters and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present ecological crisis, it is imperative that human beings reconsider their place within nature and find new, more responsible and sustainable ways of living. Assumptions about the nature of God, the world, and the human being, shape our thinking and, consequently, our acting. Some have charged that the Christian tradition has been more a hindrance than a help because its theology of nature has unwittingly legitimated the exploitation of nature. This book takes the current criticism of Christian tradition to heart and invites a reconsideration of the problematic elements: its desacralization of nature; its preoccupation with the human being to the neglect of the rest of nature; its dualisms and elevation of the spiritual over material reality, and its habit of ignoring or resisting scientific understandings of the natural world. Anna Case-Winters argues that Christian tradition has a more viable theology of nature to offer. She takes a look at some particulars in Christian tradition as a way to illustrate the undeniable problems and to uncover the untapped possibilities. In the process, she engages conversation partners that have been sharply critical and particularly insightful (feminist theology, process thought, and the religion and science dialogue). The criticisms and insights of these partners help to shape a proposal for a reconstructed theology of nature that can more effectively fund our struggle for the fate of the earth.

The writings presented here, spanning five decades, embody Jung's attempt to establish an interdisciplinary science of analytical psychology, and apply its insights to the fields of psychiatry, criminology, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, personality psychology, anthropology, physics, biology, education, the arts and literature, the history of the mind and its symbols, comparative religion, alchemy, and contemporary culture and politics, among others: each in turn has been decisively marked by his thought. Of timely and ongoing relevance to the understanding of these fields, Jung's writings are at the same time essential reading for any understanding of the making of the modern mind.
