Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Man is threatened only by fellow man. Great is that threat because man, throughout history, has fought fellow man. All impactful nations of our world fight other nations and must spend enormously because they must be ready to fight. It seems that we cannot outgrow fighting. This book imagines a world in which man does not engage in war. Animals are surrogates, and only animals engage in fighting to the death. Such practice is beneath civilized man, but he is not totally removed. Humans are obsessed with watching animals fight to the death. The animals do not mind. What happens when kids try it? Once the passion for fierce fighting enters the blood, can humans resist the urge to engage in war? Yes, they are superior to animals, but can humans refrain from doing the thing they believed they were too smart to ever do?

Book Great Lakes Champions

Download or read book Great Lakes Champions written by John H. Hartig and published by MSU Press. This book was released on 2022-10-01 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Great Lakes—containing one-fifth of the standing freshwater on earth, covering some 94,250 square miles with a combined 10,210 miles of shoreline—have suffered greatly from human use and abuse since the advent of the commercial fur trade in the late 1600s. Logging destroys or degrades habitats, urbanization and industrialization pour human and industrial wastes into the water, fertilizers flowing off farm fields feed algae that suffocate other creatures, and ships bring in exotic species that decimate the lakes’ biodiversity. In 1985 when the International Joint Commission identified more than forty pollution hotspots around the lakes, few people had faith the Areas of Concern would be cleaned up in their lifetime. Indeed, aquatic ecosystem restoration is extremely difficult: only nine of these hotspots have been removed from the infamous list. But progress is being made, and at the helm are local champions, people with a profound love of the region who lead by example and build broad, diverse coalitions in order to realize a common vision. The stories of fourteen of these champions are told here to inspire necessary action to care for the place they call home, so it may be a home to many living creatures for ages yet to come.

Book How Champions Think to Win

Download or read book How Champions Think to Win written by A. A. James and published by XinXii. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How champions think is what makes their paths master trends in a world of constant change - a globe without a wall, giving room for transitional leadership. Every day new discoveries keep swallowing old and new generations keep overtaking existing histories making new giants to keep emerging. There is a power of hidden potential in every man, but little minds focus on what happens, average focus on how things happen, great minds focus on why things happen making them to unleash the hidden power within. Every dream that will see the light of the day must be exposed to new possibility thinking. No matter the shape, color and size of your dream today, all you need to achieve it is your thinking habit - no road is not no way after all. Life is like dropping with a parachute, if you just hang there in fate and enjoy the cool breeze and the shade from the sun while complaining about the loneliness, it will take you where the wind of life blows - in the ocean of hopelessness, wilderness of confusion, desert of dejection or valley of past failures. You must take charge of your life by trading the power of your thoughts. When you throw down a tennis ball with force, it bounces back with the same energy, only that it rises higher, but when you throw down a glass cup it shatters on the ground and scatters in pieces, flung here and there. What happens? No energy to bounce up? No! There is energy but that had been used to scatter the pieces here and there. The energy in your failure is the lessons and the experience. Now you know how it is not going to work. Now you are a coach in the making. To every action of falling there will be an equal and opposite reaction, this could be a reaction of bouncing up or rolling on the ground or shattering in pieces. But be sure this book will remold your mentality to leap forward despite the odds. This master piece will take you through on how to: * Grow your courage again with hope * Live your best life by the energy of creative and constructive thinking. * See purpose for your past, potentials in your now and dreams for your future * Put up a possibility life by engaging the power of faith, talents and idea * Process your failure for future success

Book On Animals

Download or read book On Animals written by Susan Orlean and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dogs: If therapists didn't charge you and were willing to chase sticks, they would be dogs. The kindly and receptive silence, the respect for secrets, the inexhaustible supply of attention-these are a dog's, and a therapist's, finest qualities. Dogs, though, are more fun than therapists, more tender, more dear, and certainly more admiring. Turkeys: I never expected to have any feelings about turkeys, but I love them. They follow me around like puppies. If I say "gobble" to them, they all start gobbling, in unison. Sometimes they show up outside my office and tap on the windows until I look up at them, and then they wait there, with endless patience, until I come outside and greet them. Chickens: Tweed and Mabel Black Label, my Araucana hens, are somewhat antisocial. When I pick up either of them, they eye me with such deep suspicion that I feel like they can smell omelets on my breath. Pet tigers: You know how it is-you start with one tiger, then you get another and another, then a few are born and a few die, and you start to lose track of details like exactly how many tigers you have. Cats: The cats were acquired to deal with the mice in the basement, but they don't like being in the basement because, well, I don't know why. Maybe because there are mice down there. Coyotes: Like everyone in Los Angeles, the coyotes I've seen there look like they work out a lot with personal trainers. Book jacket.
