Book Approches de l anglais de sp cialit

Download or read book Approches de l anglais de sp cialit written by Jean-Louis Trouillon and published by Presses Universitaires de Perpignan. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book L anglais de sp cialit en contexte naval written by Yves Bardiere and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2019-12-26 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Analysing Professional Genres

Download or read book Analysing Professional Genres written by Anna Trosborg and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2000 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of genres in communication (written and spoken) is essential to professional success. This volume studies situationally appropriate responses in professional communication in face-to-face interaction and distance communication, from a socio-cognitive point of view. A traditional rhetorical approach does not give much insight in the ways in which genres are embedded in communicative activity or how actors draw upon genre knowledge to perform effectively. However, if genres are considered as embedded in social interaction “as typified forms of typified circumstances”, the rich dynamic aspects of genre knowledge can be disclosed. The chapters deal with genre knowledge in various settings, illustrating the impact of time, place, medium, skills and purpose, and some chapters deal with genre analysis in a broader sense giving ideas for applied genre analysis. The book is of interest to professionals and scholars in communication studies, discourse analysis, and social and cognitive science.

Book Language and Discipline Perspectives on Academic Discourse

Download or read book Language and Discipline Perspectives on Academic Discourse written by Kjersti Fløttum and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-05-05 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the physical outcome of the symposium “Academic Voices in Contrast”, organised at the University of Bergen, Norway, in May 2006. The symposium, focusing on recent research within the field of academic discourse, was initiated and organised by the KIAP project (Cultural Identity in Academic Prose; see www.uib.no/kiap/). In this project, a special focus has been put on the study of the voice(s) of the academic author, in the doubly contrastive perspective of language and discipline. A narrow selection of distinguished scholars were invited to participate at the symposium. They were asked to address issues related to “traditional” linguistic versus contextual approaches or to interlingual and interdisciplinary similarities and differences in academic discourse. By the papers of the following, the symposium and the present book constitute a clear advancement of the research on academic discourse: M. A. A. Ariza, L. Berge, M. Bondi, S. V. Bonn, S. Carter-Thomas, T. Dahl, K. Fløttum, A. M. Gjesdal, F. Grossmann, K. Hyland, T. Kinn, L. Lundquist, A. Mauranen, M. Pabón, E. Rowley-Jolivet, F. Salager-Meyer, P. Shaw, J. M. Swales, J.L. Tønnesson, E. T. Vold, F. Wirth.

Book Languages for Specific Purposes in History

Download or read book Languages for Specific Purposes in History written by Nolwena Monnier and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents twelve papers on the use of Languages for Specific Purposes (LSPs) throughout history. From Antiquity to the present time, contributors analyse how LSPs emerged both in Europe and in other parts of the world, such as Judea, North America, and China. The historical aspect of LSPs has generally not been studied in depth, despite being part of the global understanding of the phenomenon. All aspects of professional life are tackled in this book, including administration, commerce, diplomacy, medicine, legal studies, geography, sociology, mathematics and history. This volume will naturally appeal to historians but also to linguists, sociologists, and anyone interested in languages used in a professional context. It offers a better understanding of where LSPs come from, how they emerged and how they tend to become real specialties in the teaching of modern languages.

Book Language learning and professionalization in higher education pathways to preparing learners and teachers in for the 21st century

Download or read book Language learning and professionalization in higher education pathways to preparing learners and teachers in for the 21st century written by Béatrice Dupuy and published by Research-publishing.net. This book was released on 2020-11-16 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, language learning and professionalization are explored by addressing the existing gap between pressing needs for enhanced soft skills in work environments wherein technology-mediated, multilingual communication is increasingly the norm, and current foreign language teaching and learning offerings in higher education. Considering theoretical, methodological, and pedagogical perspectives for preparing language learners and teachers in/for the 21st century, this volume’s eight chapters underscore that research findings should inform the design of learning experiences so that people’s communication needs in fast-changing work environments are met and the link between language education and professionalization, within a lifelong learning perspective, is sustained.

Book Metaphor and Mills

Download or read book Metaphor and Mills written by Honesto Herrera-Soler and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-07-04 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the role of metaphor in economics and business has produced multiple research articles, no comprehensive book-length study has yet appeared. The present book is a timely attempt to fill this gap, giving a global coverage of the role of metaphor in business and economics. It spans time (from Classical Greece to the current business network meeting-room), space (from Europe through the Americas to Asia), cultures and languages (from continental European languages, Brazilian Portuguese to Chinese). The theoretical grounding of the book is the Conceptual Theory of Metaphor taken in a dynamic sense as evolving with on-going research. The theory is thus used, adapted and refined in accordance with the evidence provided. Metaphor is shown to be theory constitutive in the elaboration of economic thinking down through the ages while, at the same time, the emphasis on evidence open to historical, cross-cultural and cross-linguistic considerations align with the current notion of situatedness. The book is a rich source of information for researchers and students in the fields of Metaphor Studies, Economics, Discourse Analysis, and Communication Studies, among others.

Book Opening Windows on Texts and Discourses of the Past

Download or read book Opening Windows on Texts and Discourses of the Past written by Janne Skaffari and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2005-03-24 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a variety of pragmatic and discourse analytical approaches to a wide range of linguistic data and historical texts, including data from English, French, Irish, Latin, and Spanish. This diversity of research questions and methods is a feature of the field of historical pragmatics, which by its very nature has to take into account the multiplicity of historical contexts and the infinite variety of human interaction. This is highlighted in the book’s introduction by means of the metaphor of "opening windows". Each chapter is a window affording a different view of the linguistic and textual landscape. Some of these windows were opened by historical linguists who have acquired discourse perspectives, some by pragmaticians with historical interests, and others by literary scholars drawing from linguistic pragmatics. Contributors include L. J. Brinton, A. H. Jucker, F. Salager-Meyer, I. Taavitsainen, B. Wehr, L. Wright, and sixteen others.
