Book Dyadic Coping A Collection of Recent Studies

Download or read book Dyadic Coping A Collection of Recent Studies written by Guy Bodenmann and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2019-09-25 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dyadic coping is a concept that has reached increased attention in psychological science within the last 20 years. Dyadic coping conceptualizes the way couples cope with stress together in sharing appraisals of demands, planning together how to deal with the stressors and engage in supportive or joint dyadic coping. Among the different theories of dyadic coping, the Systemic Transactional Model (STM; Bodenmann, 1995, 1997, 2005) has been applied to many studies on couples’ coping with stress. While a recent meta-analysis shows that dyadiccoping is a robust and consistent predictor of relationship satisfaction and couple’s functioning in community samples, some studies also reveal the significance of dyadic coping in dealing with psychological disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety) or severe illness (e.g., cancer, diabetes, COPD, etc.). Researchers all over the world build their research on this or other concepts of dyadic coping and many typically use the Dyadic Coping Inventory (DCI) for assessing dyadic coping. So far, research on dyadic coping has been systematically presented in two books, one written by Revenson, Kayser, & Bodenmann in 2005, focussing on emerging perspectives on couples’ coping, the other by Falconier, Randall, & Bodenmann more recently in 2016, addressing intercultural aspects of dyadic coping in African, American, Asian and European couples. This eBook gives an insight into recent dyadic coping research in different areas and countries.

Anger Management: You are someone who has a problem with anger, or you're just curious, you may be wondering - what is anger management? The phrase is thrown around rather casually, but it is actually a serious therapy that can help people control their intense emotions, particularly anger and rage. Most psychological experts would define anger management as the process of recognizing and controlling your anger. It is not something that is done only once. When you have a problem with anger, you will be required to manage that problem for the rest of your life. If it is left untreated, it can end up causing a long list of social, physical, mental and emotional problems. The first part of anger management is identifying the problem you or your loved one may have with anger. Most people get angry from time to time; anger is a normal and healthy emotion. If someone disappoints you, or you feel you have no control over a terrible situation or you are taken advantage of, it is very natural to feel angry. Most people are equipped to deal with that anger in ways that are helpful and healthy. People who need anger management have a problem understanding how to respond to their feelings of anger. Instead of dealing with it appropriately, they let it turn into something uncontrollable, often threatening or harming themselves or others. What you will learn in this book: Anger Management Information. A Broad Look at Anger Management and Techniques. Do You Need an Anger Management Class? Book excerpt: No matter how ugly anger looks or feels, keep in mind that it's a perfectly valid feeling and a natural part of life, just like any other emotion. Simply put, there are things in this world that will make you unhappy to the point of being angry. It's how you express the emotion of anger, however, that can be deemed "appropriate" or "inappropriate." As you're probably already aware, when you allow any emotion to get the best of you, you end up unnecessarily harming yourself and the people around you. If you regularly find yourself in fits of rage, then it's time you learn a more productive way of dealing with your anger. This book is designed to provide you with effective strategies to help you understand and effectively manage anger. By first understanding what makes you angry, and to what extent, you will be better prepared to address the potential triggers before the anger actually manifests itself. Beyond that, when you do become angry and start to lose your temper, this book offers several strategies for how to manage that rage in a constructive, rather than destructive, way. And finally, you will learn how to effectively assert yourself to others despite having negative sentiments. Keep in mind as you read this book that anger management isn't only about controlling your anger, but it's also about changing your perspective to see things from a more accepting, forgiving, and humorous point of view. So if you're ready to finally be in control of how you view certain situations and how you express your negative feelings, let's get started today!

Book Mindful Anger A Pathway to Emotional Freedom

Download or read book Mindful Anger A Pathway to Emotional Freedom written by Andrea Brandt and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to release anger and reconnect to yourself using mindfulness techniques. Anger is one the most common human emotions, so if you’re not feeling it, then you’re probably unconsciously burying it. But anger that is buried isn’t actually gone. In fact, hidden or covert anger may be just as damaging as the overt, outwardly destructive kind, only it wreaks havoc from the inside-out. All sorts of physical and emotional problems can stem from suppressed anger: headaches, digestive problems, insomnia, just to name a few. Buried anger is expressed in a continuum, with rage and aggression at the top, and frustration, annoyance, irritation at the bottom, and everything in between. Unless this anger is addressed, it is impossible to overcome. This book urges readers to practice mindfulness-deliberately allowing physical sensations and emotions to surface so they can be examined and released. This sort of processing of anger-fully felt in the body as it happens, moved out through appropriate expression, and let go-will allow readers to process anger before it becomes unhealthy. Whether for you or your clients, this book offers simple tools of mindfulness to strengthen your connection with your inner world and learn to explore your anger, paying heed to the important messages it is sending.

  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Never Get Angry Again written by Dr. David J. Lieberman, Ph.D. and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2018-01-09 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Never Get Angry Again is New York Times and internationally bestselling author David J. Lieberman's comprehensive, holistic look at the underlying emotional, physical, and spiritual causes of anger, and a practical guide to what the reader can do to gain perspective. David J. Lieberman understands that a change in perspective is all that is needed to help keep from flying off the handle. In Never Get Angry Again, he reveals how to see anger through a comprehensive, holistic lens, illuminates the underlying emotional, spiritual, and physical components of anger, and gives the readers simple, practical tools to snuff out anger before it even occurs. Take a deep breath and count to ten. Meditate. Visualize your happy place. You’ve probably heard all of these anger management techniques and more from friends, family, and experts, but somehow they miss the mark when it comes to coping with the complex emotion of anger. Let’s face it: if anger-management techniques were effective, you wouldn’t be reading this book. These clumsy attempts to maintain calmness are usually futile and sometimes emotionally draining. The fact is, either something bothers us (causing anxiety, frustration, or anger), or it doesn’t. A state of calm is better accomplished by not becoming agitated in the first place. When we fight the urge to blow up or melt down, we fight against our own nature.
