Book excerpt: “Fast-paced and impressively researched, this detailed account sings.” —Publishers Weekly, starred review A Publishers Weekly Top Ten Book of the Summer (2021) A propulsive, eye-opening work of reporting, chronicling the rise of Juul and the birth of a new addiction It began with a smoke break. James Monsees and Adam Bowen were two ambitious graduate students at Stanford, and in between puffs after class they dreamed of a way to quit smoking. Their solution became the Juul, a sleek, modern device that could vaporize nicotine into a conveniently potent dosage. The company they built around that device, Juul Labs, would go on to become a $38 billion dollar company and draw blame for addicting a whole new generation of underage tobacco users. Time magazine reporter Jamie Ducharme follows Monsees and Bowen as they create Juul and, in the process, go from public health visionaries and Silicon Valley wunderkinds to two of the most controversial businessmen in the country. With rigorous reporting and clear-eyed prose that reads like a nonfiction thriller, Big Vape uses the dramatic rise of Juul to tell a larger story of big business, Big Tobacco, and the high cost of a product that was too good to be true.

Book excerpt: From Elizabeth Stevens, writing as E.J. Knox, comes... A ruthless god. A sinful angel. A princess to come between them. My life is perfect. My life is planned. My life isn’t mine. Promised to a man I love. A man I hate. Not even a man. A god. Apollo Callahan is that and much more. My life is broken. My life is fractured. My life isn’t free. Craving a man I hate. A man I need. Not even a man. An angel. Valen Kincaid is nothing I could ever want. Though the Saints rule the hallowed halls of Saint Benedict’s College, they’re anything but saintly. Behind closed doors, they call themselves the Sinners. Sex. Fast Cars. Drugs. Money. The odd assassination or two. Nothing is beneath them, except the next in a long line of women. Can one little princess, searching to break free from her prison tower, bring these mighty lords crashing to their knees? The stunning first book in the Sinners of Saint Benedicts duet. This is a dark, angsty, contemporary high school enemies-to-lovers romance with enough steam to melt your screen. Do not engage in public consumption unless your poker face is impenetrable. Do not read if you don’t like broken alpha males claiming what’s theirs, a feisty heroine determined to break the bonds of an unwanted future, complicated love triangles full of passion and dirty words, or books with a choose your own ending (I know, I don’t like them either). This story features the heroine in sexual situations with both love interests. While not considered cheating by the characters, you may have different feelings. Proceed with caution. Contains possible triggers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A team of warrior angels. A realm in danger. Mates in trouble. Three books that kick off a paranormal romance series. Angel Fire Bryant would rather chew his wings off than get mated, but orders are orders. He’s been erratic in the field, taking unnecessary risks, and is cranky with his team. His boss hopes a mate will stabilize him. But Bryant understands what the rest of the realm won’t admit. His face full of scars makes him nightmare material, not mate material, for a realm full of vain angels. When an ethereally gorgeous female accepts his request, Bryant is leery. Then he learns who Odessa really is—the daughter of the man responsible for his injuries. But when Odessa’s attacked, Bryant has to get over his resentment. Because he’s the only thing between her and death, and together they might be able to save their realm. Wicked Fire Jagger Hancock is a fearsome warrior for the angelic realm, slaying demons left and right on Earth and protecting the human race. But when a powerful senator is murdered, he’s reduced to acting as a bodyguard for the grieving daughter. Too bad she’s the same female who ruined his one and only chance at happiness. Felicia Montclaire looks as angelic as the rest of her kind, but she hides her scars well. Yet the male who gave them to her is not just after her again, but seeking conquest over the entire realm too. While her life goes up in flames once more, the last thing she needs is a cranky bodyguard…even if he’s the only one who can keep her alive. Jagger and Felicia might not survive each other, much less the constant attacks from their enemies. But when danger drives them back to the angelic realm, they’ll discover their past is waiting for them—and it’s far more dangerous than anything on Earth. Demon Fire She betrayed her kind and was exiled from her realm. When Sierra is dumped in a snowy forest before an impending blizzard, that should be the end of the newly fallen angel. Boone wanted isolation. He wanted peace. He wanted to be left the hell alone. But a last-minute trip before he’s stormed in for days turns up more than spare wood and a rabbit in his snare. He finds an unconscious and bloody woman. Sierra’s realm might have erased her existence, but that doesn’t mean she’s been forgotten by those who want to use her for their own means. Demons have found her, and sticking around puts Boone at risk, the one man who makes her think she might deserve more than shame.

Can one little princess, searching to break free from her prison tower, bring these mighty lords crashing to their knees? The epic final book in the Sinners of Saint Benedicts Harlow trilogy. This is a dark, angsty, contemporary high school enemies-to-lovers romance with enough steam to melt your screen. Do not engage in public consumption unless your poker face is impenetrable. Do not read if you don't like broken alpha males claiming what's theirs, a feisty heroine determined to break the bonds of an unwanted future, or complicated love triangles full of passion and dirty words. This story features the heroine in sexual situations with both love interests. While not considered cheating by the characters, you may have different feelings. Proceed with caution. This book is written using Australian English. This will affect the spelling, grammar and syntax you may be used to. It might come across as typos, awkward sentences, poor grammar, or missed/wrong words. In the majority of cases (I won't claim it's infallible, despite all best efforts), this is intentional and just an Aussie way of speaking (it took my US beta readers a bit to get used to). I can't say 'the' Aussie way, since we seem to differ even within the same state. Just think of us as a weird mix of British and US vernacular and colloquialisms, but with our own randomness thrown in. I still hope you enjoy it, though! Contains possible triggers.

Kindness knows no boundaries of age, race, or gender, and serves as a universal language. “I was touched at the tenderness of humanity and understanding of a stranger. From the bestselling author of Rich and Pretty comes a suspenseful and provocative novel keenly attuned to the complexities of parenthood, race, and class. Leave the World Behind explores how our closest bonds are reshaped—and unexpected new ones are forged—in moments of crisis. Amanda and Clay head out to a remote corner of Long Island expecting a vacation: a quiet reprieve from life in New York City, quality time with their teenage son and daughter, and a taste of the good life in the luxurious home they’ve rented for the week. But a late-night knock on the door breaks the spell. Ruth and G. H. are an older couple—it’s their house, and they’ve arrived in a panic. They bring the news that a sudden blackout has swept the city. But in this rural area—with the TV and internet now down, and no cell phone service—it’s hard to know what to believe. Should Amanda and Clay trust this couple—and vice versa? What happened back in New York? Is the vacation home, isolated from civilization, a truly safe place for their families? And are they safe from one other?
