Book And You Thought Accounting Was Boring

Download or read book And You Thought Accounting Was Boring written by Edward Gotbetter CPA and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-08-16 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was a labor of love to create my memoirs of my experiences as a Certified Public Accountant. I wanted my children, grandchildren and hopefully future great grandchildren to have a record of my life and the trials, tribulations and joys that I have had during my lifetime. They already have a record of my experiences during the Second World War and this memoir should fill in any of the gaps in my life. Included in my memoir are a number of my clients experiences and my relationship with them. I have genuinely enjoyed my chosen profession, including the few bumps along the road that I have included in this memoir. I feel proud that I had the guts to quit ajob and branch out on my own with my wife and family by my side.

Book excerpt: From the creator of the popular website Ask a Manager and New York’s work-advice columnist comes a witty, practical guide to 200 difficult professional conversations—featuring all-new advice! There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . [Alison Green’s] advice boils down to the idea that you should be professional (even when others are not) and that communicating in a straightforward manner with candor and kindness will get you far, no matter where you work.”—Booklist (starred review) “The author’s friendly, warm, no-nonsense writing is a pleasure to read, and her advice can be widely applied to relationships in all areas of readers’ lives. Ideal for anyone new to the job market or new to management, or anyone hoping to improve their work experience.”—Library Journal (starred review) “I am a huge fan of Alison Green’s Ask a Manager column. This book is even better. It teaches us how to deal with many of the most vexing big and little problems in our workplaces—and to do so with grace, confidence, and a sense of humor.”—Robert Sutton, Stanford professor and author of The No Asshole Rule and The Asshole Survival Guide “Ask a Manager is the ultimate playbook for navigating the traditional workforce in a diplomatic but firm way.”—Erin Lowry, author of Broke Millennial: Stop Scraping By and Get Your Financial Life Together

Book excerpt: Simon's a nobody stuck in the glamour of Hollywood. He's less than a nobody, an assistant to a nobody. He lives not on the big screen but in the background, drifting on the shadows of anonymity. He may have a front row seat to the rich and famous, but he's still in the audience, never center stage. All that changes for Simon when he gets assigned to a new show. He's not there to act or direct or be a major player, only to crunch numbers as the pretty people smile for the cameras. One of those pretty people is an actress more beautiful than all the rest, one Simon has crushed on for years. He's dreamed about her more times than he can remember, and now she stands just feet away. Much to his surprise she takes an interest in him, in a nobody of an assistant who may just be the distraction she's looking for. But it seems there's more to this actress than a pretty face. She's reckless, moody, prone to bouts of misbehavior. She's got a darker side, a shadow of her own. And Simon can't bear to look away. I'm Bored is a standalone short novel with a scintillating twist that probes power dynamics within casual relationships. It features explicit adult material. Reader discretion is advised.

Her idol was stuntman Greg Gaige. Famous for pulling off the moves no one else could, and for scorning safety equipment, Gaige was the one man O’Shaughnessy truly admired. Ten years after Gaige’s tragic death, O’Shaughnessy is a private detective on the California coast, and a young female gymnast has come along to challenge Gaige’s crown. O’Shaughnessy goes to watch the girl attempt the death-defying Gaige Move, without a harness, on the edge of a seaside cliff.
