Book And Yet We Still Stand

Download or read book And Yet We Still Stand written by Millicent Thomas, PhD and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: And yet, We still stand is the second book in the Move Mountain, African-American, single parent series. Book two takes you on a political, social and economic journey from Washington (DC) to Walmart; from the top of the heap to the bottom of the pit and from a strategic agenda of disenfranchisement to its execution in the political, economic and social arenas. We move from impersonal to the personal and from the macro to the micro aspects of the impact on families and children. As the reader travels through the pages, we examine the shadow side of human nature from a political perspective. The descending and ascending order of events that impact the lives of African- Americans is exacerbated among single parents. Hypotheses, reasons, and justifications are put forth with relation to the why and how target groups are treated. We move back in time before the days of the Mayflower to answer the why inquiry and move forward stopping to visit the infamous communication of Willie Lynch to answer the how. Because education is vital to African Americans, we take a critical look at public education on all levels and ask, Are the strategies and techniques used to educate our children by design? Or, are those who develop educational materials using a system of miss education and, or selective education? In our journey we stop to revisit the workplace experiences of fifteen African-American, female, single parents from the later 20th century and ask, when is a change a change? The third section proposes the ultimate recommendation, one that is not popular in many circles yet, is extremely powerful. This is a must read for all!

Book The Deconstruction of Humanity s Voice But We Are Still Standing

Download or read book The Deconstruction of Humanity s Voice But We Are Still Standing written by Jesse Yaw and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Playing his clarinet inside one of London’s most exclusive members’ clubs reminded him of the privilege the elites can enjoy, but also the illusive duality of his identity, as the echo of his clanging Ashanti beads around his wrist, the scent of shea butter and sandalwood oil immersed upon his mahogany brown skin, reminded him of his true African identity. Jesse Yaw takes us through his journey as a young black man, exploring the racial constructs of relationships and modern society. With its destructive perceptions of class, race, truth, and equality, coloured by the trajectory of historical discrimination, and prejudiced western norms that have been embraced by the global community, Jesse seeks to explore the psychological impact that assimilation to westernised ideologies of beauty, governance, education, economy, law, class, and politics has on humanity. And what that consequently means for his self-determination. He acknowledges that, for too long, negative perceptions have cast a dark shadow upon black lives and subdued black potential. For these destructive perceptions to be removed from the eyes, lips, minds, and hearts of the global village, the re-education of the human mind is central. Jesse deconstructs the subconscious voice of the human mind, and establishes the unaltered truth of who we really are.

Book Many Broken Promises and Yet I Stand

Download or read book Many Broken Promises and Yet I Stand written by Henry W. Cabarrus Jr and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2013-02 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henry W Cabarrus, Jr's formative years occurred during the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. A young black male seeking self-identity through family and work, Henry struggled to find himself amidst the surrounding social cacophony. In 1954, the US Supreme Court ruled that segregation in US schools was unconstitutional. The decision kicked off a massive resistance movement in Virginia, where Henry's family lived. In response to the resistance, it was ruled that operation of public schools was a local option for the state's counties and cities, and no provision was made for educating the county's black children. With no education, prospects, or family support, Henry found himself saved from a near suicide attempt. He left Virginia in pursuit of a formal education and his place in the world. College was a struggle, but Henry prevailed, graduating with a 4.0 GPA from Saint Paul's College. Henry's memoir, Many Broken Promises and Yet I Stand!, is part history, part relationships, and part social commentary.

Book Beat Down But Still Standing

Download or read book Beat Down But Still Standing written by Funcine Wingate and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-09-28 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Beat Down but Still Standing, is the remembered impressions of what it's like to start out thinking that something was wrong and never being able to place a finger on the culprit of what was happening to me. At a very young age, I noticed that other kids didn't like me; I was picked on, bullied, and talked about most of the time in my face, but my mind never allowed me to become upset, scared, or even angry. I was honestly trying to process how I got in these situations or what I did, knowing that I was not a troublemaker nor did I like witnessing trouble. My adolescent years were pretty much the same but with more intensity to some degree, shape, fashion, and/or form. It seems as though the bad memories outweigh the good memories by a long shot. To experience the unseen and to know that there is some force or something unexplainable attached to my life compelled me to question what, who, how, and why these things were taking place, which led me to a totally different world I never knew existed. Finding out after my breakdown in November of 2019 that some people will use different ways to manipulate and take advantage of others for their own gain or satisfaction, clout, or even monetary gain, I started to read and research about the world of mysticism. As I receive clarity and receipts of my biography is filled with events that would make someone think that I couldn't possibly be serious. So even though the sequel to this will hopefully the last extension from being beat down in every way you could think. The next book will have a lighter feel of happy events. I love y'all!

IF YOU'RE ANDY REID, YOU GET ON WITH IT...In October 2009, Corporal Andy Reid was blown up by a Taliban improvised explosive device while on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Injured so badly that it was thought he would not survive, he defied the odds to the extent that, within a month, he was able to meet up with the members of his patrol again. What he has achieved since then is little short of unbelievable.Standing Tall tells two stories. One is of Corporal Andy Reid, an infantry-section commander with Burma Company, 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. The other tells of Andy Reid, triple-amputee skydiver, cyclist, charity fundraiser, husband and father. Together, they tell a tale of astounding courage; not just the courage to face the enemy under fire, day after day, in often appalling conditions, but also what Napoleon called 'three-o'clock-in-the-morning courage', the ability to respond to disaster and to overcome the inner demons that accompany it. Above all, this is the incredible story of a truly inspirational man.'BLOODY MINDED COURAGE, AWESOME LOVE AND A STORY THAT WILL MOVE YOU TO TEARS' - Daily Mail'HERO SOLDIER' - The Sun
