Book Ancient Jewish Prayers and Emotions

Download or read book Ancient Jewish Prayers and Emotions written by Stefan C. Reif and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-11-13 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the recent interest in the emotions presupposed in early religious literature, it has been thought useful to examine in this volume how the Jews and early Christians expressed their feelings within the prayers recorded in some of their literature. Specialists in their fields from academic institutions around the world have analysed important texts relating to this overall theme and to what is revealed with regard to such diverse topics as relations with God, exegesis, education, prophecy, linguistic expression, feminism, happiness, grief, cult, suicide, non-Jews, Hellenism, Qumran and Jerusalem. The texts discussed are in Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic and are important for a scientific understanding of how Rabbinic Judaism and Early Christianity developed their approaches to worship, to the construction of their theology and to the feelings that lay behind their religious ideas and practices. The articles contribute significantly to an historical understanding of how Jews maintained their earlier traditions but also came to terms with the ideology of the dominant Hellenistic culture that surrounded them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some degree of spiritual enlightenment must be supposed to account for the overall tolerance, even receptivity, of the people; though they refused to comply with the prophets' uncompromising demands, and occasionally persecuted one or another of them, as a rule they allowed them to preach, and even spawned devotees who reverently preserved their speeches until canonization. Unsupported by power and wealth, the classical prophets can have persisted for centuries only because they were rooted in loamy spiritual soil. The populace constituting that soil deserves to be appreciated no less than the exotic flowers that towered above it. What was the spiritual loam that prepared Israel's soil so that prophecy could thrive in it? Any answer to this question must give due consideration to the popular life of prayer. For it was in extemporized praying that the Israelites experienced a nonmagical approach to God in which form was subordinate to content; here, in immediate contact with a God who "searched the conscience and the heart," they were sensitized to sincerity in self-disclosure to God; and, finally, it was in prayer that they had constantly to face the issue of adjusting their ways to God's in order to obtain his favor. Greenberg finds in this rich life of private prayer a setting for the high religious ideas--and the scathing critique of worship--which characterized the "genius" of the prophets of the eighth and ninth centuries BC. This masterful evaluation of biblical prose prayer, a tradition independent of experts and special places, suggests an explanation for the unprecedented democratization of worship in postbiblical Judaism.

Download or read book The Ruach Ha Kodesh written by Unknown Hebrew and published by Unknown Hebrew. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ruach Ha'Kodesh: Ever Present, What It Does & Purpose is book 3 of the four-part series on the Ruach Ha’Kodesh. We wrap up the idea of the doctrine of the Trinity by going to Luke 4:1, the account of YAHUSHUA being led by the Spirit into the wilderness. Then we address the notion that the Holy Spirit was not before Act 2. And we show through many scriptures that the Ruach Ha’Kodesh has been with us since the beginning of creation. We then demonstrate that each of us has been given a portion of the Spirit of Elohim as our breath of life and consciousness. It is also the source of anointing or inspiration to speak the “Word” or the mind of the Creator, as did John the Baptist, King David, and the other prophets. Lastly, we delve deeper into “what is the Ruach Ha’Kodesh (Holy Spirit)?” specifically, what it does and its purpose. Remember, Ruach Ha’Kodesh is the Hebrew word for Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost. Some people have said that the phrase “Holy Ghost” makes them think of a Poltergeist, meaning a Spirit between the land of the living and the realm of the deceased. Many use this term but do not realize what they are saying; a “ghost” describes one who is dead and has returned. However, the “Spirit” we are discussing here has never been a person. The “Holy Spirit” or “Holy Ghost” is not the same; again, a “ghost” is something that once lived; it had flesh, whereas a “Spirit” never had flesh. YAHUSHUA never promised us a “ghost;” He promised us a “Spirit,” a “comforter.” what this book does is it tells us what the “Ruach Ha’Kodesh (Holy Spirit)” is and what is His job. The Church world will give us one definition of what the “Ruach Ha’Kodesh (Holy Spirit)” is, but it is different than what we read in the scriptures and what YAHUSHUA promised. The Messiah promised us a “comforter;” that would lead and guide us into all truths, all truths being something that he had already told us. We know the Messiah never said anything new; he only repeated what his Father said or what he heard his Father say. the “Ruach Ha’Kodesh (Holy Spirit)” is the “comforter” that is to lead and guide us through the Father's “Word.” The Bible tells us there are two categories of Spirits in the world; the Spirit of truth and the Spirit of evil; there is no in-between. The question is, which one are you operating under? We are operating under the Spirit of truth; we are showing you directly from the Bible, not from other ideologies, not Christian or any religious base, because we are not “religious” people. We are the true children of Israel; we believe in being led by the Spirit and what is written in the Holy Manuscript. The first time the word "Spirit" is mentioned in the Bible is in the book of Genesis 1:1-2, which reads, “1 In the beginning ELOHIM created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of YAHUAH moved upon the face of the waters." This was the “Spirit of YAHUAH,” and keep in mind there are different types of Spirits. Revelation 1:4 reads, “4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne." Isaiah 11:2 reads, "And the Spirit of YAHUAH shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of YAHUAH.” Notice the first “Spirit” mentioned is the “Spirit of YAHUAH,” which shall rest upon him (YAHUSHUA). There are many different types of “Spirits,” as you can see. We believe this is the same “Spirit” that is talked about in Genesis 1:2. As for the other “Spirits,” we do not hear much about them; in this book, we are going to focus on the “comforter,” the “Holy Spirit;” the “Ruach Ha’Kodesh.” The four-part Ruach Ha’Kodesh series helps provide the principles needed to understand YAHUAH better while discovering the truth. Book Torahism

Download or read book Torahism written by R. L. Solberg and published by Williamson College Press. This book was released on 2019-10-22 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: www.TorahismBook.com - Are Christians required to keep the Law of Moses? How about the Ten Commandments? Was Jesus divine? Join R. L. Solberg in his new book, TORAHISM, where he confronts a modern heresy and dives into these and other critical questions related to the Jewish roots of the Christian faith. "It all began with a series of Facebook posts that an old friend posted just after Thanksgiving. He was aggressively taking Christians to task for celebrating the 'pagan' holiday of Christmas. This struck me as odd because I'd always known he and his wife to be strong Christians. And while I've debated with plenty of atheists over the alleged pagan roots of Christmas, I'd never heard this charge leveled by a fellow Christian. So I decided to chime in on his posts and soon discovered that I had stepped into a mystery of, well, biblical proportions..." ENDORSEMENTS: "Over a decade ago, I came to know Rob Solberg. He impressed me back then with his searching heart, scholarly mind, and passion for apologetics. He has now offered a masterful work, well researched and very well-argued. Were I still a seminary professor, I would require my students to write reviews on this volume." Dr. Stephen Drake, Former Professor of Ministry at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary "Impressively written and researched! Aberrant theologies have existed throughout time, requiring trusted biblical guides to bring much-needed reproof. Rob Solberg does this superbly in his book, Torahism. And, he accomplishes this task with much 'gentleness and respect' (1 Peter 3:15). Even if you are not immediately confronted with this heresy, a careful reading of Rob's book will deepen your understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ." Ed Smith, Ph.D., President, Williamson College "Engaging and well-developed content on a tough topic. Rob addresses lofty theological issues with incredible accessibility and application. He reminds us to not just stay in our heads and win arguments but to love people well as we fight for what is true." Derek Bareman, Lead Pastor, Church of the City Spring Hill "This is an excellent, balanced, scholarly refutation of the heretical teaching of Torahism. Solberg does so with a wide array of Scripture, great Christian writers across the centuries, and impeccable logic. Not only does it address and answer the challenge of this new heresy, it serves as an apologetic in the best tradition of Christian scholarship. Exceptional work. I have reviewed thousands of books in 30 years. This book deserves to be read!" Reverend David "Doc" Kirby (retired), Host of the On The Bookshelf podcast FROM THE FORWARD BY PAUL WILKINSON, Ph.D. - "The best conversations are those that happen spontaneously amongst sincere, passionate seekers wanting to learn, mature, and progress in their faith and life. R. L. Solberg has blessed us by inviting us into just such a conversation . . . This book is a read that flows because it originates in genuine conversations between friends and passionate believers. It is reminiscent of the ancient dialogues with questions, points, and counterpoints. But be sure to catch this truth: Solberg's work is not about how to do the least work for the most grace, nor is it about how to avoid obligations, duties, and work. No, much more than that, Solberg's question is about how we who claim to be children of God best glorify, worship, and obey him . . . Solberg wants to know what it means to be "godly" and "righteous" in light of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. I invite you into Rob and his friends' conversation. I was challenged, encouraged, and taught by the insights he brings to the fore. I pray that you heed his call to take seriously what it means for the Christian to live the godly life; to be like Jesus."

Book Prayer of a Hebrew Israelite

Download or read book Prayer of a Hebrew Israelite written by Unknown Hebrew and published by Unknown Hebrew. This book was released on 2019-02-16 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you interested in knowing what the Bible says about prayer? Then continue reading. Ephesians 6:18 reads, “18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” Knowing YAHUAH's voice is critical to receive the answers to your prayers. To have a good relationship with the Most High, you have to have meaningful conversations; you achieve this through prayer. If you wish to learn the truth, you have to step outside the box; you must exercise an enormous amount of faith to understand how the Most High operates. Hebrews 11:6 reads, “6 But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to ELOHIM must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” You cannot please the Most High without faith; as the scriptures state, you have to believe in His ability to help and reward you. You will have to open your "spiritual eyes" to see the Most High's sovereignty; also, believe in things that the world declares foolish. Many expect the Most High to operate the way the world works; the world's ways are not His. Isaiah 55:8-9, it reads, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saithYAHUAH. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” The way He intervenes and delivers His people is unexplainable and extraordinary; no one will steal His glory. Everyone will know that He is behind the scene conducting miracles. Take, for example, the walls of Jericho. YAHUAH made the soldiers in the Israelite army march around the city of Jericho for six days; on the seventh day, they walked around the city seven times; after the priest blew the shofar, the Israelites shouted, and the walls of Jericho fell. To confirm this, look at the book of Joshua 6:20, which reads, “So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.” To believe that the walls came down, you have to have faith. It takes an Israelite that knows his ELOHIM to believe; the world has been blinded; they cannot see the Most High's ability; the god of this world has blinded their eyes. 2nd Corinthians 4:4 says, “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of YAHUSHUA, who is the image of YAHUAH, should shine unto them.” Here is another unexplainable example of how the Most High operates: look at the first exodus. YAHUAH could have led his people, the Israelites, out of the land of Mizrahi (Egypt) another way. Instead, YAHUAH chose to prove to the world that there is nothing too hard for Him. He is the only ELOHIM; He parted the sea and made the Israelites walk on dry land. When YAHUAH delivers you, He will do it remarkably, and only He can take the credit for your deliverance. Here is what others are saying about this book: 5.0 out of 5 stars, An eyes opener. I enjoyed reading this book because I have been searching for the truth about who I am and whose I am.
